Japanese PM Shinzo Abe has announced his resignation for health reasons.
He said he did not want his illness to get in the way of decision making, and apologised to the Japanese people for failing to complete his term in office.
The 65 year old has suffered for many years from ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease, but he said his condition had worsened recently.
Last year, he became Japan's longest serving prime minister. His current period in office began in 2012.
He will remain in his post until a successor is chosen.
In 2007 he resigned abruptly from an earlier term as prime minister because of his struggles with ulcerative colitis, a chronic condition that he has lived with since he was a teenager.
Mr Abe has a reputation as a staunch conservative and nationalist, and for stimulating growth with his aggressive economic policy known as "Abenomics".

It saddens me that his illness might have been more severe than has revealed, considering the overall vibe of Japanese politics. There is even a possibility that the already painful illness is but a minor excuse in Abe's mind, and it was the likely Sino-American showdown that led him to resign right now. He made it through an era of Japan, and he knows exactly when to hand it over to the newcomers.

Not only are old people not well physically but mentally they're not up-to-date with modern demands of a fast paced society with a different type of population too. Look at America where pensioners are battling to be president which makes you wonder how those younger and more suitable candidates/politicians aren't able to take the major roles because of the corrupt system + cancerous & divisive media.

I'm not personally American, but in the USA, politics are between two large parties and what ends up occuring is people vote not for their own party but against the other one, permitting their preferred party to do whatever they want with the threat of "Well it's not like you would vote for the other party". Your national diet is much more balanced despite the long running LDP majority.

The number of cases is low because Japan did way less testings compared to many of the other developed countries or even concealed the actual number like China. People listen to MSM and think that we've done such a fine and dandy job but when you do a little bit of research you realise the amount of damage all of this has caused, the tremendous damage that locking down has done, the little impact social distancing has done, the poor management and U-turning by the gov etc. For us, we should've taken measures for April, maybe to mid May but back to normal after that. Now, we have at least 2/3x the people killing themselves every day than dying from Covid. The same amount of people dying in car crashes on average, but we've never banned cars before?..
