The thing which most struck me is the acting of each character. Nop not the natural mumbo-jumbo of today's but real acting, cinematography and true representation of the character...

In looking into the history of this film, I've been a bit surprised NOT to find any hint of controversy concerning the casting of Heinz Rühmann.

Whatever possessed the film's director, Stanley Kramer, to repeatedly referring to the movie as movie Ship of Fool? The film is about a ship of fools as the title of the film makes clear, not just one fool. It's title is the same as the book: Ship of Fools. It's a solid movie with some fine performances.

the characters we see so far i have seen in the book wich i am halfway to finishing and i think the woman with the the fur is Frau Ritersdorf do i stand corrected ? we then see Doctor Suman (or Souman ?) the yet to the pages i am at unnamed Contessa and oh god they are all here except the Houtens and their doggo

For the most part, despite several extremely fine performances from a large and mostly able cast, it is mainly superficial, pretentious, and obvious. Despite the aspirations of his title, Mr. Kramer has done little beyond floating Grand Hotel out to sea, with a handful of brilliant performances to keep it above water.
