10 ай бұрынThe 728-foot ship Joseph L. Block arrived under the Aerial Lift Bridge from Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. The ship gets very close to the canal wall during a fast turn! This video shows how well-trained this captain is to make a turn that quickly next to a wall without hitting it. It also shows how well the Captain knows the ship! Super job Captain!
In this video, you will also see a huge rudder on display, many people walking around, Duluth Lakewalk, horses, and many other interesting things around the Aerial Lift Bridge before the ship arrives.

You really motivated me and actually got me to believe that people will be entertained by my videos. I originally was just going to record videos to watch them myself later down the road. Very great looking ship, and bonus horn salute. Quite a few captains honor their fans lately. Great people on the ships. Duluth, the city is anything but laid back but it has gotten to be a popular tourist stop aa time goes on no even.a whisper to the way it was 65 years ago. It is a great Minnesota city and the shipping is for sure, frosting on the cake!

@@vibewithmikeI would not be surprised if they did NOT use the Starboard Bow Thruster to help push the bow to port. I say this because the boat accomplishes this pivoting maneuver without very much forward movement (“weigh on”). But maybe someone in Duluth can research this?😉 Great video, thanks Mike.

Karen, this has to be one of the coolest turns that I’ve ever recorded of a ship. The sunset was looking really good in the background as well. The ship did get close to the wall, but obviously the captain had no issues and must’ve done that a million time. In a way, I am looking forward to some of these snow ship videos. I always try my best to shut my mouth as those horns go. You can tell my mouth likes talking. Keep in mind, I approach these videos like a live news reporter. @brentdickerson1473 Gretzky, the greatest ever. Just look how many points he has total compared to who is in second place game that’s equivalent to having. That’s like having double the most of any other sport in the same category. Touchdowns, home runs, etc. He is the greatest.

This ships turn, Joseph L. block's bow to port, (left) stern to starboard (right) is greatly assisted by the stern thruster. Stern thruster(s) aren't all that common as one would think on boats. Maneuver of a ships stern is by rutter and propeller rpm rotations. A good way for one to always remember port and starboard on a vessel is, port=4-letters/left=4-letters/starboard=9-letters, an odd number/right=5-numbers, also an odd number. So, always remember port=left, then starboard must be right. 😮

The app I use is called “MarineTraffic” and it has a blue ship for the logo. You will really enjoy it! You can research vessel names and follow ships all over the world. I saw what looked like a thruster graphic forward of the stern a little bit. and he seemed to kick the stern around quite smartly.but maybe he has a big rudder that kicks the stern around. enjoy the vids.@@vibewithmike
