Ship with 19,000 Cattle Causes Stink in South Africa's Cape Town | Vantage with Palki Sharma
A ship carrying 19,000 cattle from Brazil to Iraq caused a stink in the South African city of Cape Town. The smell from the ship blanketed Cape Town. The cattle were stewing in more than two weeks worth of faeces and ammonia. The ordeal sheds a light on the global Livestock transport industry. Is there no way to transport animals without subjecting them to cruelty? Palki Sharma reports.

The ship from Australia was the Bahijah, headed to Israel when turned back, not the Al Kuwait. The Al Kuwait was headed from Rio Grande, Brazil to Umm Qasr, Iraq. The issue is that this type of commerce exist since long time now, it is nothing new here. However in today in a tight market conditions countries use all their tools to retaliate against Powerful Business Corporation by creating the necessary conditions for all this to happen. It is not normal for a ship loaded with animals to have to wait 6 weeks in port before the animals are released back into the wild. The problem is not the transport but the conditions under which the ports accept or reject the goods. We continue to look at the problem from the wrong side. Repeat.

Back into the wild? What are you talking about? Idk if u know how far brazil is from iran but it isnt just down the block and these are all 3 brics nations. They should have been in talks with all three for the best way to transport these animals but either way when you shipping that much cattle that far of course death is going to happen, and if they catch a disease you can practically kiss em all good bye.

@@Purp4040 no that is not a question, sorry here in Australia cattle is taken down from Kimberly (did you have any how far is this place) then put into long train trucks a week later is back into a livestock carrier and shipped to middle east.. @@KoDeMondo cattle are alot less like to die on a train on top that cause your not crossing an entire ocean then going around a continent and then passing another ocean. And that aint including the motion sickness the cows will get. And on a train your on land in a country completely different.

These cows are on their way to slaughter so that means that people were going to eat them? My God they had been sitting like that for over 2 weeks? I live in a very small town in Michigan in the United States and just a farm with just a few cattle that they have on it is disgusting in the summertime. I can't imagine a ship with 19,000 cattle 😮😮😮😮

It seems to me... people are more concern about foul smell than the terrible and cruel conditions in which these poor poor animals are transported. And on arrival many of these cattle are strapped to a stationwagon's roof..with bones broken to prevent it from run away. Stop shiping life animals. What a cruel lot of beings are humans.

If we all agreed that these animals have gone through hell in just a few weeks at sea, now imagine what my ancestors went through during the era of transatlantic slave trade. They were tied up in their own faeces, beaten with whips by white slave traders, and starved for multiple weeks on their way to the New World.
