Hi Friends!
Here is a step-by-step video on how I package my paintings to ship! I show you how to create a custom fit box for your work using only materials from the Dollarstore, as well as some household items. I typically source all recycled materials to do this process, however, due to the state of the world right now that has been difficult for me, so here is a nice inexpensive alternative.

This is very helpful! One thing I'd like to add is that an oil painting should never be directly against plastic. The oil can react with the plastic. It is best to wrap an oil painting first in glassine paper or even parchment paper so it doesn't ruin the finish.

1. This was absolutely BRILLIANT! 2. Leave it to an artist to tap their creativity: a) how to package and ship in a non-traditional way, b) sourcing materials - extremely creative in sourcing materials, and c) sharing the process. I have two pieces (my first) ready to go and I’ve been cringing at using a courier or the postal service, so this was perfect! Thank you for sharing and I mean that sincerely. The term for making the mark without cutting through your entire board is "scoring". This is wonderful. I have a 3x4 painting I need to ship and I'm so nervous that it'll be damaged. So hard with one of a kind art! Your presentation looks so professional and neat! This is how I'll do it! Thank you!!! Note: Rather than cutting off the long sides, if you scored and folded them also, you would add more strength to the side of your box, adding more reassurance that something won't crush it easily.

I actually flip it to get a more accurate cut because cork side down sometimes is not totally accurate as there is a gap! :)

Go behind any shopping center and get card board for free. Just grab it out of the recycle bins. Turn any box inside out and use it. Money saved. I don't know about putting that plastic right over acrylic. Ide be afraid of it sticking to it. If it sweats at all the painting is gone. I guess don't send in the dead of summer...

I use this same method, except I source larger materials for free from big box stores like Ikea, especially for larger pieces of cardboard and foamcore 🤓

Thank you for this video ! And Canada shipping is sooo expensive, shipped a painting to a client in France from Quebec it cost me 92$ for a 11x 13 in painting 😢 and the parcel got delayed. If you have any tips on shipping cost too I would be very eager to hear it 😊

I know it’s brutal here in Canada! I suggest shopping around for other shipping companies and getting quotes instead of only using Canada Post!

Here in Canada I use Canada Post most of the time, with a small business account which is free but saves you a little bit! The cost really depends on size and where it is going, but Canada post has a really good freight calculator where you can input the size of your package and the destination and it will give you an estimate. I find it very accurate!

Hi Tiara! The plastic bag works fine for me over varnish, but just to be safe you can do what some oil painters do and put a piece of glassine paper between your artwork and the bag. Hope that helps 🙃
