A quick blast back to 2008 to see the little special purpose vessel Ville delivering around 500 tons of rock to a beach, where it will form part of sea defence groynes.

Now this is an interesting little ship and a fascinating operation! Whoda thunk it. Find a need and fill it! A neat video.

Felixstowe, in Suffolk, UK, in 2008 when the beach sea defences, and concrete groynes were rebuilt with rock . I think the ship is at present La Rochelle.

I wonder if this is the little ship which capsized in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland , after damaging itself on rocks ....

Damien Hill I was just thinking the same myself. Wasn’t there another identical sistership?

The Vessel Offload the Stone very near to the beach.

Yes - that's her particular job, to build new beach sea defenses. Brings stone in at high water, dumps it, and then cranes position it properly on the beach.

There was a major beach recharge and rebuild, and these rocks were being delivered just before high water so that they could be picked up and properly placed to form rock groynes to hold the sand in place. Felixstowe has a problem with longshore drift.
