Shirebrook TMD visit - March 2020 - What is it like today?

I managed to get access to the Ex BR Shirebrook TMD this month (March 2020) for a video on what the depot looks like today.
The depot still stands today, however the once glass structure has now been replaced with a metal structure. Tracks, signs and yard lamps can still be seen around the old yard.
The depot is now used by a furniture company.
Most of the shots are external with a few internal (to respect the current owner).
In between the visit shots are photographs from the early 1990s when the depot was still active, this have kindly been provided by Paul Butler.
The depot was situated on the freight-only line between Pye Bridge and Shirebrook Junction, this is now part of the Robin Hood Line from Kirkby In Ashfield. The depot was built on the east side of the line on the site of the old goods shed, adjacent to the closed Shirebrook West station.

Worked as a train guard there from 1973 when i was 18 then became a secondman at Staveley then Sheffield Midland good days, Thankyou for showing.

I went there in about 1975 aged about 11. A dark Saturday evening. Class 20s standing there whistling/throbbing is what I remember.

The upstairs shots are interesting, it was blocked off in the early 90's due to the condition of the concrete, 20yrs later and it looks the same! Trainload coal tiles in the toilet/shower look like new.

Falcon did 30,000 miles? Don't sound much. Kestrel was also at Shirebrook in the early 1970's. Used on heavy (40 x 32t MGR'S)

The source for that information was from an article I read in Railway Magazine about the depot. Good to know about kestrel too 👍

My dad took my to Shirebrook one day last year, I saw nothing, however I've heard that quite alot of freight and covoys and test trains still go through there

Not like it used to be. Mainly stock moves from the Harry Needles Depot at Worksop. There are also occasional moves to and from W H Davies wagons works. Other than that the only regular trains are the EMR services once an hour each way. There are also the trains that go via Shirebrook to access the Network Rail test track.

@@LBTrains okay thank you, would it be worth going there after the lockdown just to go and see if anything passes

@@uktrainspottinghub3686 Check on realtime trains first. Most days there is nothing but the scheduled commuter trains. Maybe once a week there is a movement in or out of WH Davies and very occasionally something will go down the test track (once a fortnight wouldn't be unusual). And as said above the stock moves to Worksop.

@@paulcharlton4788 okay thanks, I will do I would like to see a network rail test train so I will be looking out, I live on the RHL so I can get on a train no problem

@@uktrainspottinghub3686 Chesterfield Station is a better bet for fairly constant activity. I live in Shirebrook so I pop down if something interesting is happening!

Thank you for your feedback. Do you have any suggestions for music going forward. I know the music isnt to everyone's tastes but it has been made so it can be muted if not your cuppa tea.
