This story is not mentioned in this way in any known written or folkloric traditions. The most famous, and perhaps the only version involves God Shiva giving a boon to the demon to be able to reduce anyone to ashes when he touches upon their head. Ofcourse the demon runs after Shiva to test the boon. Bhagavaan Shri Hari VISHNU manifests to destroy the mad demon in turn. In Srimada Bhagvatam Mahapurana 10.88, the demon is named Vrikrasur and Vishnu turns into a student form to trick the demon to destruction. While in Ganesha UpaPurana Krida Khanda's Chapter 39, the demon is named the popular Bhasmasura where Vishnu destroys him by making him dance to death in his Mohini form.
