This is the exactly the mantra I need. I am a recovering alcoholic and struggling to understand the real world as people see it. For most of my working life, I drank. One day something happened to me, the words from my mother, who has now passed away and in my mind I know she has gone to a place where her wisdom is needed most, anyway her words rang loudly in my head to stop drinking and it will kill me. I always used to laugh it off but not this time because her sentence ended with 'your children will need you'. I was lost and confused, why her voice has come now, I couldn't understand.. My mum knew I had so much guilt inside me and drinking to forget that. Which is not true, you don't forget but it haunts you, that's what I was feeling. I was a bad person, selfish, ill tempered. The only decent thing I ever did was see my children as much as I could, who did not live with me. If I think about that now, I still was a useless father and I wasn't doing any favour to anyone but guilt inside me. When my mum was lying in hospital in coma my family was keeping an eye on her 24hrs, except me. This went on for 2 weeks, something inside me made me go and visit her but before I left I went to the room where my parents used to sleep and there was a lovely temple set up there by my father, anyway, I opened the temple door and I picked up my mums' Rudrakshmala which she used everyday for years. None of my family talked to me much because they didn't want to waste time arguing with an alcoholic. I just told them visiting time is over and today is my turn and I will watch over my mother, under there breadth I could hear them mumble, about time. I do not blame them at all. They did not leave, I say on the right side of bed wishing forgiveness from my parents first then asked God to forgive me. I held my mums right hand, shut my eyes and used her Rudraksh mala and chanted in my mind ' Om Namah Shivaya', after two rounds of going through the mala, I opened my eyes, and so did my mother and I bursted out crying and she looked at me, like she was waiting for me, the unsettled son, to come. I felt my mum was looking at me but later I learnt that maybe that my mum was ready to leave her body behind and saw my father who came to take my mum away. I felt so good and the words she always said is true, that your children need you. After a while I went into a Rehabilitation centre and spent my 50th birthday at the centre with a glass of lemonade and shared a cake made by the counsellors, with my fellow members. Since that day back in 2009 until now, I do not think of alcohol but have given more attention to my children and making ties with my family and friends, a long process. Even my ex wife congratulated me and said, I'm very happy for you, now all you have to do is be a good father. Since 2009 all I now listen to is devotional songs and changing my mentality of how to be a 'human being' and have fun and enjoy without having a drink in my hand and also not to have a drink for confidence as that was always within me but I did not know. A very hard journey but worth every second or minute. That's all. Hope I have not bored anyone about my life journey 🕉️🙏

This SLOKAM "Meaning: "O God, kindly pardon my incorrect actions done consciously or unconsciously, either through my organs of action (hand, feet, and speech) or through my organs of perception (eyes, ears) or by my mind. I adore the God, who is the ocean of kindness". By God's grace, we have completed one more day of our life. So, in order to thank god and to ask for his mercy, one can recite this Sloka. I also pray to Lord Shiva for myself, because it's been few years that I noticed that my stomach is always feeling uncomfortable, feeling tight, and bloated. Stomach muscle is not relax. We must listen to this sloka very carefully at bed time. We pray for forgiveness to Shiva, who is so compassionate and merciful . Divine and so soothing voice. This sloka goes directly to my heart.God please help all who are actually in bad phase. Bless the whole world. 🙏
