4:30 this line alone, has revolutionized my meditation. Whenever i feel torn by fleeting random subconcious thoughts interrupting me, i now imagine my higher self as a rider in command of the horse (my subconcious), steering it back onto the right track, the exact same way you'd guide or calm down an animal. In a quite literal manner of commanding and controlling your own brain, to submit to your meditation and quiet all thoughts. Not by asking, not by begging, but commanding. Because it's your body, your brain. Your higher self is in charge, and you simply just have to take charge. Previously i just had the flawed perspective of "requesting" myself to let those thoughts slip, but it never worked, the subconcious is like a wild stallion that wont listen to requests. You have to command it to obey your higher self. It has no choice but to submit, because it cannot exist without you. This is a perspective i never before thought of, even though i've understood the seperation between brain and mind. It was still this specific sentence that made me intellectually understand what mental methods to employ in order to bind the two in unison.

*संक्षिप्त परिचय - व्याख्या* छह मन्त्रों वाला *शिवसंकल्पसूक्त* शुक्ल यजुर्वेद का अंश (अध्याय ३४, मन्त्र १-६) है । यह छह मन्त्र अपनी संरचना और संदेश में इतने सारगर्भित व भावपूरित है कि इन्हें स्वतंत्र रूप से एक उपनिषद् की मान्यता भी दी गई है । इस प्रकार *शिवसंकल्पसूक्त को शिवसंकल्पोपनिषद् के नाम से भी जाना जाता है ।* यहाँ शिव संकल्प से तात्पर्य शुभ संकल्प, श्रेष्ठ एवं कल्याणकारी संकल्प से है। *इन मन्त्रों में मनुष्य को ईश्वर से प्राप्त `मन` नामक दिव्य ऊर्जा के अद्भुत सामर्थ्यों का वर्णन है ।* मन के संबंध में पातंजलि योगसूत्र में लिखा गया है कि प्रत्येक मनुष्य को जिस प्रकार स्थूल अस्तित्व के रूप में `देह` मिली है, उसी प्रकार सूक्ष्म अस्तित्व के रूप में उसे `मन` मिला है तथा कारण अस्तित्व के रूप में `आत्मा` प्राप्त हुई है । दार्शनिकों ने मन को छठी इन्द्रिय कहा है और यह छठी इन्द्रिय अन्य इन्द्रियों से कहीं अधिक प्रचण्ड है । मन इन्द्रियों का प्रकाशक है, ज्योतिस्वरूप है । वैदिक ऋषियों ने मनुष्य के ह्रदय-गुहा में स्थित इस ज्योति को देखा व पहचाना है । श्रद्धेय विनोबा भावे ने अपनी पुस्तक महागुहा में प्रवेश में कहा है: “मनुष्य के द्वारा जो कुछ होता है, वह मन के द्वारा ही होता है । तो जिसके द्वारा काम होता है, वह एजेंसी अगर बिगड़ी हुई हो, तो सारा काम बिगड़ जायेगा । आंख अच्छी है, लेकिन मन ख़राब है, तो देखने का काम अच्छा नहीं होगा । इस प्रकार यद्यपि कर्म इन्द्रियों द्वारा होता है, तो भी कर्म का अच्छा या बुरा होना मन पर निर्भर करता है । इसलिये अपना मन क्या है, यह देखना, उसका परीक्षण करना बहुत जरुरी है ।” स्वामी करपात्रीजी महाराज का कथन है: स यत्कृतर्भवति तत्कर्म कुरुते, यत्कर्म कुरुते तदभिसम्पद्यते अर्थात पुरुष जैसा संकल्प करने लगता है, वैसा ही आचरण करता है और जैसा आचरण करता है, फिर वैसा ही बन जाता है । उनके अनुसार कर्म का आधार मन में उठने वाले विचार है । भारतीय वाङ्गमय में मन एवं उसके निग्रह पर मनीषियों ने बहुत कुछ कहा है । शिवसंकल्पसूक्त का संबंध भी `मन` से है । ईश्वर से की गई अपनी प्रार्थनाओं में वैदिक ऋषि कहते हैं कि वह उन्हें शारीरिक तथा वाचिक ही नहीं अपितु मानसिक पापों से भी दूर रखें । उनके मन में उठने वाले संकल्प सदैव शुभ व श्रेयस्कर हों । *मनुष्य का मन अपूर्व क्षमतावान् है, उसमें जो संकल्प जाग जाएं, उनसे उसे विमुख करना बहुत कठिन कार्य है । इसीलिए ऋषि मन को शुभ व श्रेष्ठ संकल्पों से युक्त रखने की प्रार्थना करत्ते हैं ।*

A sukta is a divine song. Shiva Sankalpa means right intention or having an auspicious resolve. The Shiva Sankapa sukta consists of six verses. These six verses are very sacred Vedic verses and constitute a hymn. They are regarded as an Upanishad. In fact some people also call it Shivasamkalpopanishad. These six Shiva Sankalpa mantras are also repeated in the first chapter of Rudrashtadhyayi. Chanting the six mantras of the Shiva Sankalpa for some time everyday, is a method to steady the mind. It is also a method to control one's subconscious mind (the chitta), and the faculty of thought. The six verses of the Shiva Sankalpa sukta are listed below with the meaning in English. yajjāgrato dūramudaiti, daivaṃ tadu suptasya tathaivaiti. dūraṃgamaṃ jyotiṣāṃ jyotirekaṃ, tanme manaḥ śivasaṃkalpamastu ...........................(1) 1. That mind which in the waking state through the means of the senses roams through this world[1], and which in the dream state roams through many worlds [2] and in the state of deep sleep returns to its origin[3], that far wanderer, that light of knowledge[4] my mind, may you have good intentions[5]. yena karmāṇyapaso manīṣiṇo, yaj¤e kṛṇvanti vidatheṣu dhīrāḥ. yadapūrvaṃ yakṣmantḥ prajānāṃ, tanme manaḥ śivasaṃkalpamastu................................(2) 2. I am proud to be an Indian and ashamed of not learning Sanskrit. The way she chants the slokas with great amount of discipkine and timing to stress on every word. . The quality of rendering attracts anyone to learn Sanskrit.
