What's up, folks! I'm back with another Talk Talk reaction, and this time we finish their 1986 The Colour of Spring with the wonderful, sublime, and transcendent "It's Getting Late in the Evening," a song I found very touching and sweet even if I'm not entirely sure about the lyrical themes. Either way, join me for a great end to a top record, and shout-out once again to both Stuart and Elyssia. Cheers!
Also I run a Patreon featuring extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do here on KZfaq and getting early-access to video-watchalongs and reactions blocked on KZfaq, as well as behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos, can go here: / shnootz

In the beginning I thought this was the kind of song that showed me why I didn't like Talk Talk that much, but I have to admit it got better and better, and I ended up enjoying it a lot - or at least in parts. There are moments where Mark sounds a bit like Tom Chaplin (Keane), which is good, and something I had never heard in Talk Talk songs. Approved! 👍😁

This is my favourite Talk Talk track. This track isn't on any studio album, it was originally a B-side, and appeared on the compilation Asides, B-Sides. I must have played this track 100 times, and I still have no clue what the lyrics are, I did consider looking them up once but I fear knowing them might spoil the song for me. In my opinion, the voice in this song is just another instrument giving beautiful sound, and it doesn't matter what Hollis is saying, the delivery is just beautiful, if that makes any sense.

I listened to this track repeatedly, when I bought the 12'' record a long time ago, and tried to work out what the lyrics were. Years later, thanks to the interweb, I found the lyrics and realised that I was a loooong way away from what I thought they were, but that made me happy. I miss the days of not knowing what a song's actual lyrics were.

Imagine what this sounded like when it was released. There wasn’t much around like it at the time. And not that many people listening given this was the b side to what was essentially their biggest ‘pop’ hit. Fast forward to their final LP laughing stock which I remember not long after I bought my vinyl copy seeing lots of them for sale in the bargain bins for a few pounds. You couldn’t give the album away. People just didn’t want or understand this music back then. In this you can hear, gospel, Jazz, ambient, musique concrete, post rock, OST’s and so on. Of course, I’ve kept all my original Talk Talk vinyl. Funny how things turn out….

I always include this track when playing the album, proper, it would have fitted nicely in the track listing (I normally play it before Time It’s Time). Great instrumentation and ambient soundscapes, topped off by Hollis great vocals. This does offer a nod to where the direction subsequent Talk Talk albums would go.

Oh, so this was a bonus/B-side? Also thanks for the next two albums, Stuart!

@@mattsnider2667 - I think it was in fact the b-side to Life’s What You Make It. It’s such a great track - its composition and production - and deserved more than b-side status, imho. It’s a perfect gateway to the next two albums, which I think will take you by surprise 🤨

It was originally designed to be on the album. Apparently SKI complained about the lack of hit signs on the finished l.p. . Talk Talk went back in and quickly recorded Life's what you make it and this genius track was made the b side of that single. I was and remain a huge fan. I bought the 7 inch and 12 inch on day of release , turned it over and played this , music has never been the same since .
