Amazing tune. One of the classics;

I love how much you visibly appreciate his vocals 😂 I understand that people are different, but it was surprising to learn that many people can't stand his voice or the way he sings. I think he sounds amazing and his phrasing and cadence is brilliant.

I spent my 15th birthday in 1985 at a Smith’s concert at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. It was magical to see them live. My heart still belongs to Johnny Marr. ❤

This is probably my favorite Smiths song. There are many contenders but this is near the top for sure.

Matt you are a very wise music reactor in that you don't go from artist to artist, to artist. I believe you absorb more when you explore the work of one singer or band. Thank you for reacting to The Smiths.

My Dad hated The Smiths so much. He couldn't see the humour. As for the lyrics, this is another song where he is bemoaning how things have changed and an older (more carefree?) way of life has been lost, a common theme to this day.

I spent three months listening to The Smiths back in 1984, mostly to "Hatful of Hollow". Morrissey back then presented himself as living in celibacy or an asexual but many of the songs are the gayest ever written. Great band and I loved "The Smiths" and "Hatful of Hollow" because they made a difference for me as a teen. 'though not gay. The Smiths offered a way out of all sorts of shit..

Their sound and style is almost modern folk music. Remove the drums and bass and this could be from the 18th century.
