#greatbritishswim
Can Ross Edgley do the unthinkable? Will he be the first to swim around the entire mainland of Great Britain? We follow Ross on one of his biggest challenges to date. This is the Great British Swim.
As Ross crawls his way to the top of the country, changes in climate and tides massively affect his output. Not to mention the minor detail of sharing waters with a giant shark. But in true Ross fashion, none of this prevents him from setting a new #GreatBritishSwim speed record.
Predictions of an easy ride around Scotland are fast forgotten. To quote #RhinoNeck himself, everything they’ve learnt on the journey so far has changed. Cape Wrath by name, Cape Wrath by nature.
►Fun fact: The shark that Ross encounters is a basking shark - the second largest kind of shark in the world. Head to 6:59 to catch the beast.
Through weekly vlogs and live broadcasts of the voyage, we want to leave you feeling motivated and ready as ever for your next big challenge. The Great British Swim pushes the boundaries of what the human body is capable of. How can you embody this test for yourself?
Ross Edgley’s ‘The Worlds Fittest Book’ is being backed up in a big way with this ultimate test. Oh - and for context? “It’s the equivalent of swimming the English Channel every day.”

Thing about Basking Sharks: They don't even have teeth. No worries, it's basically the Atlantic version of the Whale shark. A bit smaller and a bit uglier.

You are doing amazingly well, Ross. You have a big strong body, but your heart is even bigger and stronger! Question - are you hugging the coast all the way, or cutting straight down from the North East tip to the Aberdeen-shire coast? I live on the East Coast of Scotland, near the Moray Firth, and would love to cheer you on # Rhinoneck! 🦏

Great work, amazing inspiration thank you. I watch a lot sailing videos and they all say sharks are normally just curious and will say hello, SV DELOS videos they're all divers and watch them dive with sharks on a weekly bases the one thing they do say is not to freak out when you're in the water with them as they sense the elevated heart beat of fear and so to keep calm on carry on.

Wow, that was close with the shark. I guess there have been even more around which you didn't see ^^ As far as the whales a concerned, I've heard a story of a diver who saw two huge whales swim towards him. He said he was thinking if they don't see him or make sudden movements that would be it... But they noticed him and just swam peacefully around him! One on the left and one on the right. Maybe this story helps to feel safe. I hope they'll be as friendly with you as they were with him :) So stay safe and keep swimming :D I love to see your videos every week. Best wishes from Germany :)

Can i ask how things work in the interval where you sleep? Does the boat still keep running? Do you anchor it somewhere? Just curious as to how you measure swim vs boat travel (Not taking anything away from this massive swim) I'm just curious about the technical parts behind it :D?

No recorded cases of orcas attacking humans in the wild ever. Also orcas are not just beasts working on instincts but intelligent creatures that have been thought to have something of a culture even. All family groups have their own dialects and they can learn from each other and nail something like killing a great white with ease without having ever been face to face with one. All I'm trying to say is, the possible orcas on your route are very likely not going to mistake you for a seal. You are a great inspiration and I'm wishing all the best for your adventure around Great Britain!
