His chance winning this last frame was extremely slim in that situation. Let's not pretend that Ronnie's awful performance in the last session last year didn't played a big part in Luca winning. Ronnie couldn't even make a 30 break in the entire session.

The fact he was smiling at losing & then went backstage & did an interview saying how happy he was to lose & end his season shows he doesn't have the mentality required of a true champion/consistent winner/going deep. Its not because he needed only 1 snooker. Problem is he also needed minimum 3 blacks which ath this stage how the red balls were located nearly impossible.

The only explanation I see is that he's still too careless when playing certain shots. His choice of shots or the way he executes them sometimes simply seems like he isn't 100% focused, or simply doesn't give a shit. To me, that 'safety' he attempted at 5:50 was more like "OK, here Gilbert, now take the frame and match..". He could have easily pushed the loose red to the left, and make the cue ball end up in the baulk area, leaving Gilbert having to play a safety too.... Maybe he decided that he didn't need 500K this year...

He didn't fix the match, Lee fixed multiple of them. Brecel just showed he has no mental toughness/a poor temperament-against a guy with none either, who would rather go out partying & driving sports cars around tracks than practice, doesn't want to work on the tactical side of the game & takes it all for granted that his talent will win matches. Once again he proved it doesn't work that way.

He must feel he's just not playing his best and thinks he'll lose the next round anyway, or certainly not win it, and winning is all he's happy with. If he goes away and works on being ready for next season great; if he goes and sinks ten beers definitely not.

@@formulaic78 Honestly, he didn't had a lot of chance winning that frame, and he knew it. The odds were completely against him before he conceded. He won against Walden 10-9 last year so I doubt that his lack of faith was the reason to concede. Going through means much more money too. They don't just throw away matches like that if they think they can go through to the next round. This is their living.
