For Christ sake thank you for doing this. I have been watching hours of videos, reading forums etc. I have been torn between Bilstein, Fox and icon. I am willing to pay anything to get my f150 to ride better. Factory shocks are blown and trash. I want to level it with coil overs. But all the videos KZfaq are specifically talking about off-road performance. 97% of us are on the road 99% of the time. I want shocks that will soak up the chatter of shitty roads, be more compliant but not have any body roll. I feel like I got more info out of your video than the literal hours I’ve spent searching for the right set up. Thanks man. I’m curious what your recommendation would be since you’ve got so much knowledge.

Installed the 6112s and 5160s this week on a Toyota Tundra XP 4x4 Crewmax. The ride improvement is substantial. Smoother ride and tighter handling than stock. The roll or looseness is handling has been eliminated. 100% would buy them again. Tundra’s are heavy, but this combo made the truck easier and more enjoyable to drive than it was previously.

Running Fox / Ford 2.0's on my 20 Ranger and I'm quite pleased. Great on the highway and no complaints off road. They eat up washboard roads no problem and performed great during slow speed technical challenges. I have no experience with 6112's but ran 5100's on my 4Runner many years ago. For a bargain upgrade they were worth while improvement over stock. What I don't get is these folks that pay $3k or more for Kings/Icon, etc. Are they really that much better beyond larger bodies and remote reservoirs? Most guys I see running Kings haven't seen a grass field let alone a long baja trail where heat build up in a shock would be an issue.

You're right that most people who buy racing style coilovers don't use them to their full potential. Those coilovers really shine in prolonged high speed high abuse conditions. But most people simply aren't doing that. Glad to hear you like your Fox setup!

I know this video was a long time ago but….fox makes 2.5 remote reservoir shocks in various lengths and spring rates. Can someone from ADO plz comment the numbers for the fox 2.0 coilovers for the 2022 3rd gen kit? If the 6112’s fit with over 2.5” diameter…I’d like to replicate the fox 2.0 kit with a special order fox 2.5 rr kit. I’ll need coil length (I’ll set the rate at 450 like stock) and the extended/collapsed lengths on the 2.0 shock. Yes it will be expensive, and yes I would like the rear shock collapsed/extended lengths as well to all a 2.5” rr rear as well. Also, which UCA did you guys use for the 6113 setup? Did the ADO’s clear em or SPC? I prefer the ADO as the Titan ball joint is an easier fix than the SPC setup.

Hey Steve! If you were in my shoes.. stock 06, 2wd X, with 146k sad suspension, daily driver and weekender on washboard and backcountry ruts, no roof weight, mild interior weight (truck camping), future amenities will include rear bumper tire carrier and maybe a winch but no front bumper but I may add skids. I was thinking of using your kit with BROverland leafs and 5100's but should I consider the Fox's instead? Anyhow, thank you for being a wonderful resource to the community!

I am considering to upgrade to Bilstein 6100 shocks. My question is: would you recommend removing the 2 inch spacer and adjust the ride height 2 inches on the 6100s or should I invest in new upper control arms and install the 6100s without any height adjustment?

My '08 Honda Element SC a torture chamber of a rough ride mostly due2 the rear suspension stiffness, the large 18" wheels, 50psi Z-rated tires& short wheelbase. I've resolved about 50% of the problem by swapping out Z-rated tires for touring tires, lowering tire pressures from 50psi to 35psi &swapping those stiff OEM springs4 progressive rate lowering springs. I'm not satisfied &my vehicle sits lower than optimal 4towing or comfort &road compliance flexibility. I think that there're 4major answers: 1. taller progressive rate springs 2. 3-way adjustable struts w/progressive rate springs (height, dampening, rebound) 3. Arnott or Bilstein style air springs 4. deeply threaded coilovers w/progressive rate springs Data bases r self defeating. I should remind u that much of the Honda CRV line& many Acuras use similarly styled proloaded rear struts. I've no need2 change the front OEM set up. I'm not interested in lowering my '08 Honda Element SC. I'm tired of this super stiff vehicle beating me up like a Mustang Saleen. Help me tame this beast's rear suspension so that I can enjoy it. There is NO excuse 4my failure.

One thing you forgot to mention is that fox will need to be rebuilt/serviced more often and has a higher fail rating over the 6112s. With that being said I actually have the 6112/5160 on my 19 tacoma and they ride so good over all but when I off road high speeds I really don't like the digressive shocks that much but when pushed hard they do better and they preform great on the road and curves. With that being said I'm actually looking to get some fox 2.0s and the 2.0 with reservoir for the rear for my 2016 tacoma. I off road often but I only do high speed every month or two for about 30 to 40 min. So far the 6112/5160s have performed great all around with no noticeable fading or problems. Would the fox 2.5 be overkill? I actually really like the idea of the 8112s but they've been out of stock for so long

@@tonydouangphachanh5343 I've had my 6112/5160 on my tacoma for about 6500k miles and I'm actually really harsh on them. I also skipped on the icons as I hears horrible things about them. To be honest the 6112s are great and best bang for your buck. They ride great on the road and perform really well off road. They are smooth and have great control over all and you can go much faster on washboard. If you do lots of high speed/washboard a fox 2.5 would have a better linear feel. The 6112s are amazing for the price and better over any 2.0 shock out there in my opinion. They ride amazing in the canyons as well os tight curves. Best of both worlds.

@@tonydouangphachanh5343 btw a friend got fox 2.0 and the bilstein are better in my opinion. I can hit 40 mph with the 6112s comfortably and before with the stock suspension it was super harsh at 30 on the same road plus the rear end use to "hop" a lot . In all honesty I'd get the bilstein 6112 5160 setup as a bare minimum or upgrade to a 2.5 from fox or kings. For the price range in my opinion nothing can beat the 6112s

@@tonydouangphachanh5343 I honestly know so many people who have bought icons and have had them leak within the first few months and most don't even off road much at all. But then again I know a few that have had them for years with no issues. I don't think icon has good quality control and I personally would never buy icon. It's insane to buy a suspension that's 2 to 3 thousand dollars for it to literally fail within the first few weeks.

Thanks for your detailed comments. I have been doing research and was almost settling on 6112/5160, but seems even though their quality and on road performance is great, it seems off-road performance on washboards and bumps must be not good as they are digressive. So, now I am considering Fox 2.0 which has linear valving that is better for fast off-roading according to some source. however Fox quality is probably not great as you wrote... on the later comment, you wrote you think 6112/5160 is better than any 2.0. do you have experience with Fox 2.0? any updates? my primary goal is to go fast off-road comfortably. @@dad3562 he's crazy lol. They ride fine I've had them on my truck for a while and I off road a lot. Keep in mind that they're 1400 dls so don't expect your ranger to ride like a fully built baja race truck like he did. They're definitely an improvement over stock and are Slightly stiffer on road but so are the fox. They usually come with a higher spring rate so it can handle more off road stuff and not bottom out which equals to Slightly stiffer ride when on road. The only issue with the 6112s is that it's digressive which makes it better on road but also can be a bit unpredictable when off road as it won't soften up until you hit bigger bumps or go faster unlike the fox that will probably have better control. My 6112s don't get soft/smooth till I start pushing them. So basically sometimes I need to go 30 or 40 over washboard so the suspension softens up. It makes you feel like you can't go faster because it's a bit stiff but it actually softens up. The fox is just a better option for off roading but it's not necessarily softer. It's hard to explain. You really have to own them to experience them. I'm installing fox 2.0 and reservoir on other tacoma because I don't wanna have the same on both but I would definitely buy the 6112s again.
