@@adorabasilwinterpock6035 America had a period of harsh emissions standards during the 70s to the 80s, Because none of the manufactures had done anything to produce environmentally friendly cars the easiest way to make a vehicle pass the emissions standard was to detune it and have it produce less emissions at the cost of power, there was also many attempts at reducing emissions yet the limited technology meant that those systems fitted to cars just robbed more power. eventually during the 90s the restrictions where eased and better technology allowed vehicles to produce more power and less emissions. the vehicles of the 70s could have the restrictions removed off the engines and they could easily produce twice their factory power, even in the 60s unrestricted 400+ cubic inch engines where nearing 400 horsepower. basically government mandates and the oil crisis meant engines where prevented from reaching their full potential.

His next new car was a 1977 Oldsmobile 98 Regency with the 403 cu. in. engine. A whopping 180 hp. So the car he handed down to his sons would destroy his top-of-the-line model. I will always agree with Jeremy on the question "How do they get so few horsepower out of this engine" because I always want to know how that happens. No way we have engines that large to just drink fuel and that's it. Like, atleast it should make 3x the performance for the size of the engine.
@lalnablehector12859 ай бұрын
basically shitloads of really poorly thought out emissions controls to try and carry old engines forward while still meeting the emission requirements of that year. Combine that with the fuel crisis that occurred during the same time as some of these engines and you end up with really low compression dogs of engines with poor flowing intake and exhaust manifolds that have been made to be really REALLY under stressed like a long 5.7l long block capable of 550hp that's tuned and equipped (manifolds up) to make 170hp. It's why with so many old American engines you can gain a load of power with just a cam and intake swap but you can't really do the same with a lot of European engines. It was quite a learning curve for me going from old Chev engines to BMW straight sixes for that reason.

@@joaocorreia8106 you have to remember something though, when these cars were made, America was in a very dark time for automotive transportation. The oil rich corporations in the 1970’s and early 80’s we’re holding on how much gas and oil would be shipped and sold in the USA, on top of rising gas prices and Japanese and other country autos selling cars. extremely strict and complicated garbage emissions control modules, that reduced smog, drained all the power out of these cars. Out of all of them the Cadillac brougham was the most powerful for Any luxury cars sold in the USA for awhile.
@CarlG84mm3 жыл бұрын
@@joaocorreia8106 You can quite easily push much more power out of that engine. A lot of American V8s come de-tuned from the factory (at least they used to) and so they produce a lot less power than they’re capable of. The upside to this is that they last forever. The downside is that unless you tune the engine you end up with a large engine that produces comparatively little power given it’s size.

Surprising going to older content with these three and hear how drastically their opinions have changed.

I like James' Cadillac reminds me of my first car 1993 Deville sedan, a bit beat up but ran ok had it for 4 years before it was a little too far gone for me

What would have been good is if every couple of minutes, you heard the sound of a ricocheting bullet, everyone ducks and then stands up and carries on as if nothing happened.

One of my best friends was obsessed with that Cadillac body style so when he turned 18 and got the settlement from his father's death, I found him a Caddy just like James' except it was a show car that came with trophies. I will always love that car even though I very much dislike GM

The cars they bought really showed their style of cars they really like, Hammond, obviously a truck Clarkson, a car that looks like a supercar, big engine, but in American sense big engine but slow. Granted he has the fastest car of the three. May, subtle, classic car, nothing flashy or speedy.

True pick ups always have dents and missing paint, shows that they are used for their job

800$ for that beautiful Camaro? I mean, a bit worn down, but I'd still take it in a heartbeat!

No radio. No speedo. No air conditioning.

@@fabiang.9588 Tach doesn't work either. Gonna need another 30 bucks for that. Oh and it smells because of a dead cow on the roof
