THE LAST EPISODE OF 80'S HORROR MEMORIES - Thank you for all of the support!
For our last trip down memory lane of the decade of decadence, let’s remember the man who told us to remember it’s only a movie. He showed us how to defeat evil in the hills, took us to Haiti to see a little Black Magic, warned us never to fall asleep, and, more importantly, asked us what’s our favorite scary movie. However, one film of his, in particular, not only closes out the 80s but also often gets overlooked in his grand filmography. So, one last time, let’s take a dive into the legacy of Wes Craven and his 1989 film Shocker on our 80s Horror Memories.
Written By: Mike Conway
Narrated By: Tyler Nichols
Edited By: Mike Conway
Produced by: Berge Garabedian, John Fallon
Co Produced: Mike Conway
Executive Produced by: Berge Garabedian
Score By: Shawn Knippelberg
Special Guests: Patrick Lussier (Scream)
SERIES SYNOPSIS: It’s been over 40 years that the decade that shaped the horror movie industry began and having lived through most of those years personally, we at JoBlo/Arrow in the Head have decided to create a 10-part documentary series in which not only cover every nook and cranny of the biggest horror themes from 1980 to 1989 but also what was happening in the world at the time. Join us as we walk down Horror Memory Lane!

Shocker is an absolute ball. I remember actually being pretty scared during the film because I was only 11 years old, but then that third act television chase unfolds and it's just a fucking hilarious scream. Nice choice! "Boy... That chair really kicks ass."

This was actually my first Wes Craven movie and it left an impact on my childhood, Horace legit terrified me as a kid and made me more scared of the more human horror villains than the more outlandish ones like Jason and Freddy.

Years ago, I don't remember what grade it was, but just before Christmas break our class had a substitute teacher. As was the case with many last day before break, it consisted of a small party. Pizza, snacks, gifts and a movie. The teacher let us choose the movie by sending around a sheet for us to write down a movie she would then bring to class. The boys in our class got it in their heads to select Shocker as that film. When the paper got to me, I saw that Shocker was poised to win, and I was worried that we'd get in trouble if we tried to sneak the movie passed her, so I wrote "rated R" next to one of the entries and probably jotted down Ernest Saves Christmas or something. As it was, Shocker wasn't our Christmas break movie... I don't even remember what was... but I always think of this whenever the movie hits my feed.

"Shocker" was a flick I was able to get into while it was in the movies. I remember thinking it was likely going to be the next "Nightmare"/Slasher franchise, but that didn't happen (sadly). I remember getting the soundtrack on cassette tape (remember those?) and loving the hell out of it. Pretty much wore that tape out. Anyway, here we all are at the end. Disappointing there won't be another episode for this series next week, but like I've said before, we're all so very lucky to have gotten this! It truly was a trip down memory lane which has been a terrific experience. Thanks to the hard working folks at Jobo!!! Can't wait to see what comes next! Cheers!!!!

I love the '80's so thank you for a stellar series. As a local editor for hire I was forced to savage Wes Craven's original "The Hills Have Eyes" for a TV station. When he premiered one of his films for the Acadamy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, I took the opportunity to apologize to him in front of the audience. He was gracious, awesome and I will always cherish his legacy. Shout out to the guys at Dark Delicacies.

This was a VHS boxart that would always catch my eye at my local video stores. I never rented it because the USA network would air it late at night, so my uncle and I watched it that way until we saw it again on our movie channels. We never disliked the film it just didn't strike us as a "you have to see this" kind of film. We felt it would have benefited more being an anthology show episode rather than a film because that's how it came off to us as. Nonetheless its a film we still will mention when discussing horror from this time period, and if the film doesn't resonate with the viewers, then hopefully, the soundtrack will.

I frickin' love Shocker. Maybe my favorite one-off "franchise" was incredible. Horace Pinker not getting his own film series is a crime. I was lucky enough to catch it 3x in theaters during it's initial release. Shocker rocks in so many ways, including the music. And thanks gang for name checking Nightmare Café. One of the greatest single season series of all time. There's another concept whose time has come for a reboot. But Jack Coleman, Lindsay Frost and Robert Englund NEED to be in at least the new pilot.

When you said you had a memory of a teenage girl acting like a robot and making weird beeping noises, i immediately remembered my struggles with trying to discover the name of the very same movie that haunted me as a child of the 80's! Deadly friends was such a fun flick that apparently very few people witnessed because none of my friends could remember it and i couldn't describe it to google well enough to get a result better than chopping mall-which was kinda fun as well. I'm so relieved to know that there were others in this world that struggled to find the same movie about which i had such wonderful nightmares

little extra context for Shocker's existence: the late 80s had a big debate about the death penalty, so there were plenty of movies about resurrected serial killers to make...some sort of statement. The Horror Show channel has a great montage video showing them all.

We rented this in its day and I immediately loved it. You would be hard pressed to find a horror fan who dislikes Shocker. I never made the connection with Falling Down, which I also love. To be fair, Azazel is a faceless demon and has Denzel as his adversary, while Horace Pinker is the only memorable character in his tale. I'd hardly say that one ripped off the other.

Honestly, shocker could work now even a possible continuation from the original movie you know social media is everywhere. People are curious about everything urban legends and creepy pastas, people could try summoning him and the fact that in the movie he was able to travel through TV channels imagine using that now with so much social media and him traveling through that even online gaming and live streaming. Imagine that being one of his kill methods, killing people through social media and live content, if it’s tweaked and re-worked the right way, Shocker could work in this day and age
