“Shocking: China's Long March-10 Rocket Fast-Tracks to put astronauts on the moon.”
China's ambitious lunar program takes a giant leap forward with the Long March-10 rocket, successfully passing crucial tests and setting the stage for a moon landing by 2030. This episode dives into the engineering marvels of the 92.5-meter-tall Long March-10, its powerful YF-100K engines, and the planned dual launches that will send astronauts to conduct scientific research on the moon.

Long March 9 is going to be even more powerful than Long March 10, as it's closer to the performance of Saturn V rocket and SpaceX's Starship.

It would be very interesting to see China sending astronauts to the location where the first US astronauts landed on the moon simply to verify the veracity of the US claim.

China always puts safety of the astronauts first above all else. The successful meticulous testing of the Longmarch 10 rockets ensures the reliability of the launch. The first launch will enable the rockets to bring significant payloads to orbit around the moon before the second launch with the Taikonauts on board will rendezvous the orbiting first module around the moon. After the transfer of the Taikonauts the lunar lander will descend on to the moon with lots of payload. A very clever design to bring significant amount of payload to the moon without building a giant rocket to bring the Taikonauts and the payload in one launch. Safety and reliability are crucial in the moon mission and by using two launches China has increased the probability of succes by multiple folds.

I get your points. If we look at how SpaceX and Boeing test their giant rockets, Starship and Starliner respectively, we can understand that giant rockets are too complex to build, especially Starliner which has failed many launches. China is probably doing the right thing to invest their efforts and money on established smaller rockets but with a twist. Instead of a giant rocket, China uses multiple rockets to do exactly the same thing, but with more simplicity, more safety and more reliability.

Autually, a real even more powerful rocket the Long March 9 has been started to research several years earlier than Long March 10. China's original plan is to launch a very powerful rocket to send Taikonaut landing on the moon directly in one launch. But that kind of huge rocket seems too difficult to make it mature and absolutely safety. There are some crutial problems need to be overcome. Chinese philosophy is safety above all. The Long March 9 will be up to required standard before 2035. So, Chinese scientists created an alternative. They made Long March 10 to let it go first. The difference is that they have to launch 2 Long March 10 rockets to send Taikonauts landing on the moon by relay. Long March 10 is a safe rocket even not so powerful as Long March 9. .

@@michaelchen8853 Thank you for the info. This Long March 10 strategy reminds me very much of China's strategy to counter US sanctions on semiconductor chips. Yes, China can't buy any more EUV lithography machines from ASML to make 7nm chips, but Chinese companies have worked around this EUV machine. They use their currently available DUV machines (lower tech) but innovate and improvise the process so that they can now make 7nm (and 5nm?) chips, something like launching multiple rockets instead of one huge rocket. This is a real innovation, as the saying "Necessity is the mother of invention." goes.

It takes China so much work and innovation to send astronauts to the moon. The whole process from launch to landing on moon and back to Earth is so complex. I still feel puzzled how the US Apollo 11 landed the astronauts on the moon in 1969.

Wondering why CNSA does not 1. Do Spacecraft assembly next to space station. Making it cheaper to travel to moon orbit. 2. Build a space station farm, reducing food delivery needs from earth. All this talk just for single return trip to moon. What we need is lowest cost travel frequent trips. 😂❤

So no, "traditionnal" rockets arent less environnemental friendly than this, they're the same. On the other hand if you want toxic you got long march 2C that fell back to earth still carrying loads of hypergolic propellants less than a week ago
