That afghan was really nice. When you first got to them I thought the top one was a quilt. I've never seen that leaf stitch before. Just for future reference, afghans can be washed in the washing machine and if they are acrylic they can be put in the dryer. There's an easy test to see of they are acrylic.

Oh I’ve washed mine bunches but I didn’t want to try to mess with potential nicotine damage. I wouldn’t even want to put it in my washer, it was so sticky 🤢

There is 8 to 10 estate sale businesses here in Wichita an they start different days. Huge competition here. They one you went to tends to run her sales for more days. It mainly depends in how is in the homes.

I want to say that basement kitchen might have been mainly for canning but I could be wrong.

In the first half of the 20th century, people obtaining property (homesteaders?) would build a basement house to live in when they we’re getting started. Then as they became more established, they would add on the above ground part of the house. Many of them just left the basement kitchen intact. Some rented out their “basement apartment “ or perhaps their grandma or married eldest child would move into it.

That’s what I thought! Blake’s grandma’s house is the same way and I got the vibe it’s just what people did back then in the Midwest especially.

@@MidCenturyWasted not only the Midwest. All over the west. I new of several properties that were done this way in eastern Oregon where I was from. Including my grandma’s house, several neighbors, and one of our family friends - who still lived in just a basement. Hadn’t built the above ground house. That was around 1960

Jamie funny thing is i was at that sale the first day. I went to get the bittersweet an you can see i didn't. I am shocked they didn't bundle the valentine cards. I got a lot of amazing things from them. A book scrap book dated 1914 that tells a story. An the gentlemen that lived there was 103 when he passed. Oldest living graduate of a North high. An his wife was the smoker she had passed 15 yrs ago. I wish i could of went with you i know the lady that runs it an she would of given me deals for you. I am sorry she didn't.

Oh wow!! Too bad we barely missed crossing paths! Thanks for confirming my guesses about a former smoker 😆 I did love their house, so sweet to hear the backstory of it. It was a gentleman who I had asked about the valentines so maybe I just asked the wrong person. Oh well! I’m still happy with the stuff we got and I’m glad to hear you got some treasures there, too! 💖

I am glad you got that clear vase. Yeah the guy sometimes doesn't work with ya but i can usually get a deal from him. Maybe if you come back this way sometime i can show you the antique stores. Really having fun seeing all the places you an Blake went to.
