We went fishing on Grand River, Ontario and this is what we have witnessed. The struggle lasted around 4-5 minutes ... watch it until the end!

Not only did he fake his own death to make the Mink let his guard down, he also intentionally dove under water to try to suffocate the Mink. Because he knows he's can hold his breath longer. Impressive Mally.

While a good hypothesis on your part by what you saw in the video, the opposite is actually true. Minks can hold their breath twice as long as an average ducks and are excellent swimmers as fish and crayfish makeup a large part of their diet, along with other aquatic animals like muskrats, so they spend much more time underwater than ducks.There is however a breed of ducks called Diving Ducks that can hold their breath as long or longer.

@@grosbeak6130 If you were a duck with a ferocious predator attacking you and your struggling to get free i bet you would be extremely exhausted, you won't have the energy to fly, a mink usually goes for the kill when their larger prey tire out that's why you see the mink dragging the duck to the shore, but the duck lucked out when he got stuck on the branch and the mink let go.

Minks are ferocious fighters. Usually go for Muskrats and brown rats, squirrels, plus they are great swimmers.

Minks are mean. I was at Lake Michigan and a nasty mink snarled at me when I was just standing next to a boat dock. I chased that jerk into the freezing water to show him who is boss.

The drake’s mate is right there, freaking out (drakes can’t quack, they make a soft whhhut sound). I am pro-mink actually, because they are awesome at keeping rats and destructive muskrats under control, but I also have ducks. I’m glad the duck escaped. Hopefully he’ll be more wary about cute brown things swimming up to him from now on.

Wow wow~~ The wonderfull a duck!! 지혜로운 오리가 죽을 위기에서 살아났군요. but, 그런데, 육상의 밍크가 욕심이 탱천해서 물 위에 오리까지 잡아 먹겠다고 공격을 하는 특이한 좋은 영상입니다. 생명체의 운명이란 게, 놀라울 때가 있습니다. 막판 나뭇가지에 오리가 걸리지 않았다면, 끌려 나온 오리는 망할 밍크의 밥이 됐을 것임. 땅 위엔 쥐들도 많은데 물 위에 오리까지 먹으려는 쪽제비류 mink. 운도 좋았고 지혜로워 살아난 오리에게 찬사를 보냅니다. For whatever reasons, the mink released its jaws from the duck, perhaps to shake the water out of its eyes and mouth, and that split second was all the duck needed to take off faster than the mink could keep up. Truly amazing that the mink didn't rip off the duck's head as soon at it got it partially out of the water. Between putting up with ferocious land and water animals, other birds, and hunters, ducks are REALLY up against it!😟🥺😫

@@sheepsfoot2 I saw all that occurred, and that duck was not lodged. When an object is lodged it cannot escape swiftly as the duck did. It has to be forcibly DISLODGED by tools to extract it. To be lodged is to be surrounded by walls, as it were, and the object has to be pulled out. When an object gets lodged in someone's throat, or an animal's it is life-threatening and tedious to remove. We call a properly built home a "lodging" because it has strong protective walls topped by a roof. You get the idea. Respectfully

I raise ducks, so hooray for the duck !! Didn't think that duck could be so resilient, I can see why they say watch to the end, never would of guessed, since mink are such efficient killers.
