@@riceburner4747 When gas was $2/gal I bought a Subaru WRX (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment) to use as a commuter because it has all wheel drive, and I have a job where I have to be there in all kinds of weather. If the Prius had been available with all wheel drive I might have bought that, and yes, these are pretty much radically different cars for the same purpose. My fill-ups went from $30 to $60+ because I have to use a higher octane gas. As an aside I have driven the WRX through snow higher than its front air dam, and it made a pretty effective snow plow. 10 years of ownership and 270K miles, how's the battery performance/life? So many people think a hybrid at that age and mileage is nearly worthless because of a failed or soon-to-fail battery pack. I'm not of that opinion, but wondering what your experience has been. Thank you.

@petenelson8136
@petenelson8136 Жыл бұрын
@@anthonyc1883 Still going strong. My mileage has dropped off a bit, from averaging around 52 mpg to 48. I haven't changed out any batteries since I purchased it new. I changed the brakes at 230k (I used to drive a stick, so I use the "B" for brake option when I'm slowing to stop), a wiper motor around 245k, and blew a head gasket around 265k. I had the head gasket repaired, and while they were doing that I also replaced the water pump, timing chain and tensioner, and thermostat housing and thermostat. Only the head gasket was bad, but these other items are inexpensive to repair once the motor is opened up so I had them updated as well, and all with OEM parts. I've done this kind of work myself, several times (no I'm not a mechanic, but I know my way around engines), however I'm now 63 and can't stay bent over a car for long periods due to a bad back so I had the work done by a mechanic. Love the car, and figure I've got another 250k miles left on it. I'll eventually have to replace the batteries, but no sigh of them failing yet. When that time comes, I'm pretty sure it's something I can tackle with my grandson (now 10) and use it as a learning experience for him. I did something similar with my son when he was 16. I bought 1989 Toyota Camry for $600. It needed a new clutch pressure plate, and throughout bearing, and new tie rods. I called it his learner car and he learned how = he did most of the work I showed him what to do, to work on a car. He's now 35 with a wife and 5 kids and can fix about anything (he's still got a good back 🙂).

Great video, as always! I’ve owned a Prius before and would definitely own one again. And I like this new model a lot! My issue with owning one of the newer ones lately is the darn premium that they go for because of demand. I currently drive a 211,000 mile 2006 Honda Ridgeline and, although it gets horrible mpg, it costs me very little to maintain, insure, and register. So until I see the premiums for these higher mpg/efficient vehicles come back down to reality, I’ll probably hold off.

My experience with just about all new vehicles, the view out the front driver side is compromised with such large A-pillars. There have been times where a car has literally moved at just the right speed coming up on a roundabout where he was hidden behind the A-pillar until I started to pull out and change the direction of my vehicle. Pulling up to intersections in slower residential area's I have noticed it also. As I'm coming to a stop I wont see a car till I start to pull out and turn. I have made it a habit now to always move my head forward and back when looking side to side now just to change the location of my viewing angle. My seat position is back far enough that my arms are fairly straight and I sit straight up, not laid back like I'm trying to sleep. (I have gotten in my sister car and feel like I'm laying down when trying to drive.)

Here's a little trick on covering the blind spots with your side mirrors. Lean to the left and put you head on the glass, then adjust the left mirror so you can just see the edge of the car. Now from sitting straight lean your body to the right so your head is near the center of the car and adjust the right mirror so you can just see the edge of the car. Now when driving and looking at the side mirrors, they cover the blind spots that would occur if you adjusted your mirrors so you'd just see the side of the car when sitting up straight. I learned this at a driver's course, pretty neat trick and I use it all the time. It negates the A Pillars and hope you find it helpful.

Looks they compromised quite a bit for design. As nice as it is I don't prefer the prius with a sports car design. I can't wrap my head around why I would get this over the much more spacious, functional, non claustrophobic and still efficient camry hybrid.

I had a 2022 Prius and when I went to test drive the 2023 Prius because it is sooo tiny compared to the 2022 model I decided to buy a 2024 Corolla Hybrid...hard to believe that a Corolla hybrid has more room for the passengers and driver than the 2023 Prius...luggage space was also drastically decreased and now they have huge pieces of Styrofoam that take a lot of space where the spare tire or more useful luggage could be. The Prius lost a lot of functionality over looks...

It looks really good (never thought I would say that about a Prius). I'm very surprised about the lack of headroom. I'm sure Toyota did their homework there. Are you sure you there was not any available downward adjustment in the front seats? I can make my head nearly touch the ceiling of my Model 3 simply by raising the seat...

I am 6' 1". There is no way in %#^$ I would pay that money for this can. Zippo. I have an 08 that I like very much. Off the line it is pretty bad, but it is much better relatively speaking, in passing. I did raise the seat and rejigger the middle dash speaker on the JBL system, which made a huge difference in the sound quality. It has more cargo room, I like to carry stuff, (I can carry 3 folding bikes and 3 people, all inside at once) and it has head room. I bought it for $4200 with 135k 6 years ago. It has now 176k on it. I am retired. Aside for 2 bad wheel bearings in front, which cost me very little, and a couple of mufflers, there is nothing I can say I needed to repair that I can blame on the car. I think in a few years, electric cars will be a no brainer. If you are in the luxury class, Teslas are the car, but I cannot justify the cost for myself. The nice thing about my Prius, I never worry about it starting, LOL. In all previous cars, that was always a concern in winter.

Vertical charging is stupid. And that hidden compartment should be hinged and open flush with the buttons/center waterfall above - lol no one wants removable bits and bobs and then fitting it back together Style looks really good, anyone under 6ft likely won't have Tommy's interior issues. I never liked the offset/center mounted instrument cluster that Toyota and some Hondas used, not bad, it just seemed like they did something different to be different. I'm surprised those C pillar door handles are still a thing. When they first started becoming a thing (I think one of the Nissan compact corssovers, Juke maybe?) I figured it would die off since it's usually kids getting in the back

I did not like the new headlight treatment when I first saw the 23 model. But it’s grown on me. I definitely like the much improved power. Makes it much more responsive. I DO NOT like the decrease in head room. Also, I am not a big fan of the trend to electric door handles, especially on the inside. The reason? When the 12 volt battery gets weak or dies, which will happen! How do you get in or out of the car? And how do you access its battery jump point? My preference is for a steel roof model. I don’t like the loss in headroom for models equipped with a sunroof. So I would most probably go for the lower model choice. I like the look of the bigger wheels as far as the looks of the car is concerned, but I think I would stick with the standard wheels. I feel the new Prius is definitely an improvement, but I think I would probably go for one of the other hybrid models like a RAV or Venza.

Scary actually, since the all electric cars are a luxury vehicle scam in my opinion and only an option for the rich to show off how they pollute elsewhere in the World and waste more resources there. For high population density areas use, does make sense using. Seems then, running wires in the air or ground might be better as the gentlemen knew to do at the turn of the last century.

Based upon our 2017 Prius Prime, and our 2009 Prius, I think the real economy here is in how long these cars last, with so few repairs. We have 80K miles on our Prius Prime, but only about 1/3 that on the engine! Spending $30K once every 20 years instead of once every 10 years means *_huge_* savings!

It is a shame they cut down on the headroom and it looks like the rear hatch has more of a steep rake to it so less cargo room as well. But I guess its a compromise to increase it in the looks department. Toyota made the prius one of the most attractive cars on the road today. i'm just salty that toyota used a yellow car to debut the new design and yellow is not an option in north america. The colors on the new prius are very meh.

I would like to see an apples to apples comparison with mid trims, when/if you can, as I would think that those would be the trims most people would purchase. Also, about 2 inches were lost on the new car due to the panoramic roof so if someone were to buy the LE or XLE without the panoramic roof, they would have more headroom. Also, the power/volume knob is on the wrong side of the stereo.
