Do you care that Redfall will only be 30FPS at launch on Xbox Series X|S and will you still play it?

Arkane prioritized 4k over 60 FPS. This is very backwards. An optimized 1440p 60FPS at minimum should of been prioritized for the Series X at least.

I’m sick of always getting the shaft from Xbox.

This is a Microsoft first party title they shouldn’t have any issue hitting 60fps. Microsoft needs to get tech people over to that studio now and get this game fixed now

They really want $70 for a game that looks like it could've launched on the base Xbox One

This could get worse if previews show the resolution is not locked or not native or if the frame rate dips.

How did Arkane misread the room so badly? If anything, "quality" mode should've been the one delayed until after launch, not performance mode. Or you know... just wait until you have BOTH ready. By doing it this way, you open yourself up to a TON of criticism & the ire of fans, and now have zero room for error. If the game is anything but fantastic, people already have a negative opinion of your game/dev process because of this, so they'll be extremely harsh in judging the game...

60 fps should be the minimum!

I have no interest in games that are many years away with teaser trailers that are pure cinematics. I like the 12 month approach but it's fine if the window is 9-18 months.

Why is it that Arkane thinks no body would talk about this. Didn't Xbox say that 60 frames per second was the standard for this generation. Phil you gotta get your house in order.

Personally, if it's a consistent 30 FPS, I can deal with it. However, when it frequently drops below that is when it bothers me. If the performance mode is coming really soon, I think they should delay the game until it's ready. If the performance mode is a few months off, then they should at least try to give a window, so that people have an idea how long they'll be waiting. Another thing I wish more games would do is give a "balanced" mode. That's how I tend to play most games that offer it.

It's 2023. "Next-gen" has been current gen for two and a half years. There is absolutely no excuse for new games launching at less than 60fps with the hardware we're playing on. It's unacceptable. If I didn't care about high framerates, I would've stuck with my One X and not spent $500 on the most powerful console in the world that has very few games to actually showcase that claim.

It sucks that there's no option for a 60 FPS for Redfall. I always prioritize graphics anyway, because I like my AAA games pretty so I'll still play it. BUT, I will say this: FPS games at 30 FPS is VERY noticeable instead of 60. I can also imagine this will cause actual headaches/eye strain for people who aren't used to playing like that. 3rd person games aren't that bad (like gotham knights, which I loved at 30), but that's a whole other can of worms.

Takes some entitlement to demand a game be delayed for everyone because their preferred mode is not available yet. To hell with everyone else, right?

Hopefully the backlash lights a fire to get the 60 FPS mode out ASAP. I think this is due to Arkane's inexperience with Unreal engine since they have only used Void up to this point.

I just can't do 30fps anymore, it literally gives me a headache, especially with first person shooters. Plagues Tale had 40fps, which combined with black frame insertion made it bearable, but 30? Ouch, Redfail indeed.

I don't like that Red Fall is coop. I don't really care if it is 60 frames per second. I just want to jump on and play whenever by myself if I want.

They most likely already sent the "code" or whatever to manufacturers to make the physical copies. I doubt they can delay it at this point. Thats not a defense, just thinking about the time frame.

It still boggles my mind that our next Gen consoles don’t give us 4K 60fps as a standard. Why does there have to be a trade off. Either you choose graphics or you choose performance for higher frames… Why can’t we have both? I want both 4K and 60 fps

As a PC player I dont care much, I will be playing at 60 FPS even if I have to lower some resolutions, but there is no reason to release the game locked 30 FPS on consoles, just delay it. Yes, it would be a PR disaster, but I believe everybody would forget about it once the game released at 60 FPS.

I hope Arkane didn’t tank their own game smh! With Jedi Survivor and Zelda coming so close to Redfall this may disappear very quickly in the news.

I will not be playing at launch. I would prefer they pushed it back till it was ready. With the worlds most powerful console there has been a lot of let down.

I’ve never really cared if a game was 30 or 60 fps but I agree with you it still is misleading and they should delay it and release a finished game. I’m tired of unfinished games

30fps for a standard UE4 game in 2023 when the Series X has been out for 2.5 years is embarrassing. I was on the fence about this game. Definitely avoiding now.

30 fps especially for an FPS game is a joke in today's standards. I'm not bothering installing it until 60fps is available sorry.

I can't believe they would release the game without a 60fps mode.... Why are we all still waiting to see what the series X is capable of...or...is this it! Constant compromises between fidelity, frame rate and ray tracing. This generation feels like it's underpowered and not capable of delivering the advancements possible. My Series X is basically an indie machine at this point. Luckily there are some great smaller games on the platform but it's getting a little ridiculous

The frames per second don't matter that much to me. I only care about enjoying the game. Gone give it a fair shake. It's looks great to me.

I wish it was coming in 60FPS. But, it really doesn’t matter. I prefer 4K to 60FPS if I have to choose because once you start playing you become accustomed to the frame rate.

I had the placeholder pre-installed on the Series X, but I have just uninstalled it. I'm not at all interested in playing at 30fps.

The fact thar it is 2023 n we all have these powerful next Gen consoles n for that fact 60fps is part of the whole next Gen experience.

I will still play it - but yeah I am confused why it is 30 fps, all of the images and footage I have seen makes me think they chose the artstyle to save on resources - why are they having issues getting this running at 60 fps?

I get it that visuals sell more copies or game pass subs and they want that. But why couldn't they offer a 60 fps mode like most other games do? This game essentially needs this frame rate to keep people playing it for more than 20 minutes. Now people won't even give it a chance which is disappointing.

Besides the entire litany of issues with Redfall, I was out the door at "next gen price point". Not havin' it. Keep it. I've we'll over 100 backlogged games. This title isn't a necessity. Meh, another studio falls victim to cash grabs

Yeah it kind of sucks that there won't be a 60 frames-per-second mode at launch but it's still coming and that's not going to stop me from enjoying the game when it comes out anyways. Although I'll be playing it on PC regardless but if 60 frames is a deal-breaker for you than just play it on the PC until the Xbox version gets patched

Explains why we've not seen gameplay on console and I know it's different dev team but can't help but wonder the same for StarField. In the last video where StarField looked like it was running at 60fps or closer to it, did we see a console? Maybe it was just on pc as well? Idk maybe I missed something?

I'm playing Redfall on PC so I don't really care about the 30 FPS issue. Yeah, it's dumb but it doesn't mean the game is garbage in the end even if I understand some people wanna wait. When Dishonored 2 first released it received some really bad backlash and reviews because it didn't perform as it should and was considered a technical mess. Some updates later it was considered a masterpiece. I'm hoping it's good, keeping positive.

It’s probably because this is their first game using UE4. Their previous titles used their in-house engine, Void. It’s always the game engine with these types of troubles. Starfields delays are probably due to the upgrade of Creation, Halo Infinite’s delays due to upgraded Slipstream that they’ve now abandoned, Cyberpunk 2077’s trouble was because of upgrading Red Engine, also now abandoned & the list goes on. Studios should stick with what they know until they’ve got time to spend entirely on new tech familiarisation. It’ll be interesting to see how it runs on PC. Void was built around their “water colour” art style & it suited it. I guess UE took some adapting. Everyone should stop announcing games too soon & stop setting unrealistic deadlines. EDIT- I’d rather they just had 1440p @ 60 or even variable res between 1080p & 4K to hold the FPS. Higher settings at a lower res with a higher FPS is always better. Who notices 4K in a shooter anyway. Besides whatever happened to variable rate shading? Wasn’t that supposed to be the panacea for next gen consoles FPS? In the bin with Ray tracing I guess.

Native 4K really shouldn’t be the focus unless 60FPS is guaranteed. Upscaling is good enough nowadays to make 1440p look like 4K.

This is a cartoonish open world first person shooter. It's not ground breaking or anything I don't see why there can't be 60 fps. This game should be running 60fps in quality mode on the world's most powerful console

I might try it at 30 for a couple missions, as I am used to it from the past, but will jump into something else until the patch. I would prefer they delay it. Did Microsoft not learn their lesson from Halo Infinite?

Games in this current generation (I say current generation because the Xbox Series consoles have been out for over two years), should be 4K60 standard in my opinion. The tech in these machines can handle the gameplay and visuals. It seems to me like Xbox wanted to meet that 12 month “promise” with Redfall since they already dropped the ball with Starfield. This game has been rushed out and it’s not complete. I will not be playing at launch. I’ll give it a go when performance mode is patched. Of course this is my opinion, and for those of you who enjoy quality mode, I hope you find the game to be a great experience. Completely agree with Rand, great video!

I feel bad for co sole owners as 60fps should be the norm. I switched to PC last year and glad I did. Hope they get it fixed soon.

I can't see them doing the 12 month format again with so many delays across the board from third and first party. There is just too many things that can happen when a release is only a few months away let alone a year. I mean look at the last 3 years across the entire industry we had games that were less then 3 months out from release seeing 6+ month delays and others seeing a year or more. Ever since Covid it's like almost nobody can get a game out the door on time aside from a few exceptions. I mean just the amount of bugs in games has greatly increased in that time even from studios I expect more from like Insomniac and GG ( I ran in to a ton of bugs in both R&C and Horizon 2)

I'd rather it be delayed. I'm not bothered by it enough to not play it day one at 30 fps, but this is a real bummer for sure. I don't know what's going on with Xbox but they really need to get their shit together already. I want Xbox to be in a better place rather than just perpetually heading toward a better place.

I'd rather play the game in 720p 60fps than 4k 30. I will never understand why anyone would choose resolution over Frames per second. Arcane still haven't updated Dishonored 2 to 60fps. I loved the first game but turned off the sequel after five minutes because of it.

Sounds like it could be the same problem gotham knights had, maybe its that un tethered open world part thats hard to get right, hopefully the patch comes quick i can wait with jedi survivor coming a week before

I concur with what you have said. I didn't buy a Series X and a tv capable of 120fps to be playing games at 30fps. Yes i get some games are fine at 30fps but a shooter should not be 30fps. The game should be delayed until they are completely happy that they are releasing the best game possible. Xbox for years have been promising games with little to show for it. RROD aside the 360 was my favourite era of Xbox consoles.

Hopefully it is actually playable, unlike that Ghost / Tokyo game. The no progress in co-op is horrible, hate games like that.

4K30 is okay.. For CRPG's with turn-based combat. Playing Wasteland 3 right now and having a blast on Series X. But for shooters and especially fps's?? Hell no! WTF were they thinking??

You'd think by now that every company should be prioritising 60fps first and foremost. I'm sure we all cry about it plenty by now lol It's a real shame. I'll still try it, but won't play fully until 60fps. I did originally say if it plays well and it's a smooth 30 and it's polished elsewhere then it's fine. But with so many good titles coming out. Redfall will become back burner anyway.

I'll wait and maybe play it, 30fps is a deal breaker for me. With games like Diablo, Starfield and Forza coming out Redfall will possibly be skipped.

I blame Game Pass and Series S since those seem to be most common culprits for games being held back and or releasing unfinished lol. The biggest pisser about Redfall is Arkane pushing the Bite Back edition of the game before announcing the 30fps cap.

@Rand al Thor 19 I say you want ONLY 60FPS, why? When they announced the Xbox Series X, the big push was 120FPS gaming, what happened to that? I sold my good 4k TV, then paid a LOT to get an LG OLD with 120FPS support, and for what? Now we're not even getting 60FPS? This is unacceptable and Xbox needs to be called out for this bate and switch! I don't want to hear excuses, they were screaming from the rooftops about 120FPS, and now that we got the systems in our homes, it's radio silents.

If only frame rate turned out to be redfalls biggest issue! I'm waiting to see how much they can improve based on its current state before jumping in.

I don't mind 30 frames per second just as long as it's a smooth 30 frames per second I never noticed the difference between 30 frames and 60 frames per second. So this doesn't affect me if anyone really notices the difference must have really good eye sight or something lol.

I really don't GAF about 30fps, I doubt I would have even know if they didn't say anything about it. Its really not standard for an open world game to be 60fps anyhow. Asking for the game to be delayed over the 60fps mode is ridiculous as well seeing as how you're asking for the PC version to be delayed as well even though they're not having a 60fps version delayed.

Been saying it for almost a year now, arcane is easily the Worst Xbox Studio. The problems with the previous games, and now the game has been delayed for 1 year and still looks like this ? On top of that, the game is coming out with 30 fps only? Incompetence, plain and simple. Phil and Matt booty need to change their stance of 100% freedom to devs.

if I was gonna play this on console I would definitely go for the quality mode cause this is an Arkane game that doesn't have mind blowing graphics, (but an incredible art style as always) and choosing performance mode means a low resolution, something like 1700p or 1800p which means a worse image quality than it already is. luckily I'll be playing on PC at launch.

The series x has all this supposed power that nobody uses. At the very least first party devs should be required to use it. It's a scam. I feel scammed. I bought this thing on day one.

This is a prime example of why I left consoles. PC is always unlocked frames and really every setting for the game.

I prefer 60 FPS but if 30 FPS on quality mode is stable i can live with that until they patch the game
