Kim Tai-chung, also known as Kim Tai-jong and Tong Lung (唐龍; Chinese stage name), was a South Korean martial artist, actor and businessman. A Taekwondo practitioner, who wa best known for his martial arts films.
In the 1970s, Kim made his first Hong Kong movie debut in 1977 film Snuff Bottle Connection, along with Hwang Jang-lee and Roy Horan. Kim played Bruce Lee's character Billy Lo in 1978 film Game of Death, alongside Yuen Biao (who performed the acrobatics and stunts), Kim played Lee's character so well that the producers used him again a few years later.
In the 1980s, Kim played Bobby Lo in 1981 film Game of Death II alongside Hwang Jang-lee, Roy Horan, To Wai-wo and Lee Hoi-san. After Game of Death II, Kim returned to Korea and made his one and only Korean film, Miss, Please Be Patient (아가씨 참으세요), along with former Korean beauty queen and romantic film star Jeong Yun-hui. This movie was a commercial failure despite receiving praise from film critics.
Kim later joined a Korean and Taiwanese production again in the role of Bruce Lee in the 1982 film Jackie vs. Bruce to the Rescue (also known as Fist of Death) along with Lee Siu-ming, a Taiwanese stuntman and Jackie Chan look alike. A commercial and critical failure, this film caused him to take a break from acting.
In June 1985, Chinese film producer Ng See-yuen was looking for an actor to play the ghost of Bruce Lee in the 1986 film No Retreat, No Surrender. This would be Kim's American debut and final movie plus the film debut of Belgian martial arts actor Jean-Claude Van Damme as Ivan Kraschinsky. Kim of course played Bruce Lee's ghost who trains Kurt McKinney's character.
After No Retreat, No Surrender, Kim returned to Korea and retired from acting at the age of 29 and became a businessman.
In 2008, Kim made a rare public appearance in Korea as part of a screening of Miss, Please Be Patient (아가씨 참으세요),[2] which had originally been released in 1981. Kim had played a leading role in that film.
On August 27, 2011, Kim died of stomach hemorrhage at the age of 54.[3][4]
He had been preparing to make a new movie but suddenly collapsed during a meeting with friends and died at a hospital. Fans kept posting memorial messages on online cafes and even opened a memorial cafe for him despite nearly no mention of his passing by the media.[5]

Im glad you did this. He needs an honourable mention in the world of martial arts movies. The fights in game of death in the locker room and the green house is probably some of the best fights in martial art cinema. Those kicks were clean.

Love this film, (as is evident by my profile pic). Vann Damme plays an amazing villian. The 80's cheesiness is great throughout this movie right from the chubby bully guy to Jason's black friend who whenever he comes on screen some super corny, super funky 'street beat' type music plays in the background! Brilliant!

Yes I know this. Kurt stated this in several interviews, but it's cool to have a short clip now to send people as source. It's only seen in some long video's, and I forget the time stamp. So this is gold, thx very much :)! PS: Not important but I still like to mention it. Ppl in martial arts circle cant let it go, but actually it's recommended (even by the ALA-LC romanization, American Library Association - Library of Congress) not to split chinese and korean given names in two parts. So not "Kim Tai Chung" (what still 90% ppl in MA circle do), but either "Kim Taichung" or "Kim Tai-chung" (you did it correct in your description of this video) :).

That's Kim Thai Chung or Bruce Lung he is a master of Taekwondo, and other styles, very fast. He helped finish Game of death and Game of death 2, check out his fight with master boot kicker Hwang JANG Lee or silver fox. Snuff bottle connection is brilliant. Great video, thanks.

To me...this classic movie will always be Brandon Lee seeking out his father! Kurt McKinney physically looked like teenage Brandon! I had no idea the Korean actor was the same guy in GOD 2. The fight scene in that movie of TKWD vs Kung Fu in the garden room was awesome! Sad to hear he passed away actually young at 54.

I watched this movie once as a kid and I really thought that it was actually a Bruce Lee. And at the age of 6 years old I was already a Bruce Lee fan. I even had white t-shirt with Bruce Lee on it with green dragon around him. So yeah, after I saw this movie I was surprised to see Bruce Lee in it, and then I read the news that he died long ago, and that was shocking to me back then. Cause at that point I already saw like 5 Bruce Lee movies and they were amazing. Anyway, I didn't saw "No Retreat, No Surrender" since I was 6 or 7 years old and now I'm 30, so I guess that I have to re-watch it since I don't even remember the whole movie, just the scenes with Bruce Lee's ghost and final battle.

Gordon Liu had the same language problem with the actress who played his wife in Heroes of the East. They got round that by saying 'yes' which is the same in Cantonese and Japanese after when their respective lines were supposed to end so they knew to pick up the next line.

can Kurt McKinney still do the two finger pushup? at that time i was in 8th grade and used to break solid pens with my friends holding them horizontally with my index chop move because of his "two finger pushup" scene. i was doing 6 finger pushups at that time (3, 3).

I love NRNS but I always thought it was a bit disrespectful that they actually went to the real grave to film a scene then use a Ghost of Bruce Lee. I always thought it would be better if it was his imagination, but I guess you can argue that too!

@ibeethatoneguy7807 2 ай бұрын
So his imagination trained him to be better at martial arts? What?
@LandOfTheGeek
@LandOfTheGeek 2 ай бұрын
If you watch the film, he has all of Bruce Lee's books and training manuals, so the idea is that he imagined Bruce Lee and just subconsciously accessed the knowledge of the books/films etc to train himself. Something like a imaginative friend from childhood kind of thing. It makes sense if you have some IQ to grasp the concept 😊

@@LandOfTheGeek I know the film by heart I own copies of both versions. No need for put downs solely because I don't agree with your alternate idea of how the movie could've went. It's ok for people to disagree with you. Life's full of disappointment get used to it
@LandOfTheGeek

@@ibeethatoneguy7807 I was pointing it out so it could make sense to you, I have watched it 100s of times since 1985, so know the film inside out myself. My point was you couldn't grasp the idea, so made it clearer for you. Some people have low IQs (this includes not being able to grasp concepts like this). So happy to help you 😀

Not as disrespectful as what happened in Game of Death which is 1000% more disrespectful that the Lee family estate was pissed at Raymond Chow. No Retreat No Surrender honors Bruce Lee more than you realize. Did they show footage of Bruce's funeral like Game of Death showing his loved ones crying over Bruce's death? no, they didn't! Game of Death even had the nerve to have the main villain going into Bruce's character's grave side and try to stab it to see if Billy Lo was inside or not? As i said No Retreat honors Bruce enough nobody in the Lee Family was offended unlike the stuff Game of Death 1978 did.
