Another useless measure meanwhile all REAL INVESTORS run away from Thailand due to lack of rights and shady laws and justice and ever rising costs while quality stays the same of even deteriorates.... Most people i know that have a lot of money left for four very OBVIOUS REASONS.. 1. They can't own their land. 2. They need a Thai to be partner in their company 3. They have to pay taxes on income from abroad. 4. The visa options make no sense to a large group and are not very friendly nor certain...Not to mention all the others ridiculous things that give you a feeling you're just a tourist here no matter how long you live here...I contributed far more than all of my family together but still have virtually zero rights and/or claims to anything. I never invest more that i have to in Thailand. The rest is invested abroad where they actually reward me for my investments. If my wife and child were not Thai i would be gone long already and invest ALL of my money elsewhere...It's just a holiday country. Nothing more really.

@@BillY-tw8xc Again, their country, their rules. The OP has the gall to criticise the government. Please spare me. Crying that they change the rules. From my point of view, the rules are pretty much the same for tourists, 90 days. Were you expecting a new privilege? They have expanded visa options for longer terms, if you do not qualify how is that changing the rules? Again, your visa category is most likely tourists, not permanent residents. If you notice the rules are not favorable to persons who want to "live" there as a tourist. Leave or be quiet, you are not special.

Maybe Cambodia is easier, but it's much more dirty, poorer, and more expensive than Thailand. I was in Phnom Penh last month and couldn't understand why the price was as high or higher than in Bangkok. I didn't see as many tourists as in Thailand. My guess is that they are trying to make as much as they can from the few barangs visiting. I also had to do a lot of bargaining because almost everyone tries to scam you. Australians don’t get a visa on arrival it is a visa exemption. So it’s not a visa it’s an entry permit
@Ulbre
@Ulbre Ай бұрын
It's a visa in every way that a visa is...including being a VISA!!!!!! The exemption means you don't have to go through the formality of applying for a visa if you are from an exempt county. If you read the Thai script it says that you are exempt from applying for visa and you will be granted a visa on entry. There is so much misinformation out there on this subject and I assume that a lot of this is due to interpretation of what Visa exempt meant when initially brought in in the late 60's or early 70's.

What paperwork or documentation would they require? Monthly transfer in similar to current long stay visa requirements, or put that 500,000 baht on deposit in Thailand?

Couple of questions I have a) is there an age limit ? b) is a person on the DTV have to report every 90 Thai's, if not, I think this is far far better than a thai retirement visa...500,000 baht isn't very much, they just want you to show you are self sufficient, 10,000 baht renewal, ok little steep for a stamp, but what does that work out to $15-20 a week to stay in Thailand... Looks like its just people that film everything and help advertise the country without having to pay them to advertise the county. Oh heres a hotel. Stay here. Stay at the park. Stay on this street. Look at this place to eat. All free advertising. However that's probably not it but just the way i see it.

A country's wealth should not depend on foreigners coming in the country but on foreign trade. If they can learn anything from Europe and the US is that migrants bring mostly trouble. Also rich expats that price the locals out of the (housing) market. That being said, I am one of those migrants looking for a better life myself and will be looking into this. So far Cambodia is most flexible but I do not want to keep living here...

So, if I understand this correctly, you can get a 5 years visa that allows you to stay for 180 days (6 months). You then need to leave and then come back in for another 180 days and you can continue this for 5 years..
@DadeReLLiK

Leaving and coming back would be cheaper than paying the 10k for the extension, but they may make you reapply for the visa and be reapproved. I missed the detail on that if it happened to have been mention.

I worked for 26 years in the Visa Section of the Thai Embassy before retiring last year and these visa announcements amaze me in their uncoordinated nature as the branches of the government that are tasked with implementing these updated visa regulations often are not informed about the details and method of implementation until AFTER the date that they are supposed to come into effect! The Thai system is not geared to working efficiently and providing information except when it comes to making these jaw dropping proposals. The last time they made similar visa change announcements, it wasn't until one week after they were supposed to come into force did the Embassy receive information about the changes, and you can imagine that even now lots of people will be contacting their local Thai Embassy to ask details of the new visa changes, and how unproffessional it is to have to tell the inquirers that the Embassy doesn't know about them! The new visa changes are reportedly supposed to start in 2 days time on 1 June 2024, let's see when they actually do start!

IMHO the 60 day on arrival tourist visa with a 30 day extension via the immigration office is perfect. Many of the comments mention its money driven, which probably is the case. Visas in countries like Philippines are easier to deal with for tourists, Making it easier for law-abiding tourists to stay longer and spend their money in Thailand is a good thing. For those already staying on existing long term visas, don't hate , more people want to enjoy as well. I for one will be taking advantage of the 60 day visa exemption if not the 6 month one
