Looks like the new visor mechanism also allows for a more eccentric motion for the visor as it opens and closes. Just noticed it off your video. And looking at them side by side, it seems the mechanism is now lower down the helmet. Perhaps this is for the same reason Arai made the Variable Axis System, to allow for better protection to the side of the head.

I like my old NXR, is my trackday helmet, so it is interesting to see they have updated it. I'm less keen on the central tab for the visor though as I fit chin mounted cameras, not an issue on track, and am sure not an issue for 99% of riders, but for me it is a deal breaker sadly.

Cracking video ... I've just got meself an NXR2 recently, my first Shoei lid. Really impressed with it, straight out of the box it feels like it was custom made to fit my head - by far the most comfortable helmet I've owned. Over the last 25 years I've had lids from Frank Thomas, Caberg, Airoh, Shark (2) and AGV (3). The NXR2 is a nicer lid than the AGV K6 and Shark Spartan RS (I've spent time with both of those so far this year) .... it's not perfect ... the visor ratchet feels unrefined compared to the Spartan RS and an internal sun visor would be very handy (but would also make the outer shell bigger which is a negative) .... but those are forgiven due to the awesome overall quality, finish, comfort and fit. Doubt I'll ever bother with another brand now ... my Shoei just feels like home when I put it on 🤷‍♂

I’m kind of lost with all these different Shoei helmets. I just bought a Shoei GT Air2, and there doesn’t seem much difference when you compare them in the looks department. The great thing I love about the GT Air 2 is the ratchet buckle as opposed to the D rings. The drop down sun visor is great as well, and on my Z900RS you naturally have your head raised anyway.

I have a GT Air with a 20s Evo Sena and need to replace it soon Do you have a similar helmet in mind to look at as I like the drop visor too much to give it up. Price isn't the biggest factor A decent level og quality is.

so is it worth to pay more for nxr2 instead of nxr1 which is now on sales ?

Really interesting info John. Any helmet I buy I would still want to be able to fit coms to. Does this come with cut outs for speakers in the liner. Are we still able to fit exterior accessories to the helmet like my Cardo Packtalk Bold? It's an issue I found with Shoei's GT Air 2 when they teamed up with Sena to make coms integrated into the helmet and not protrude but it also made it difficult to fit the bulky Cardo unit because of the sena cut outs.

Mostly an exercise in selling more visors … you could share X-Spirit visors with your NXR, and vice-versa; not with the NXR 2, though … you need a different set of visors for each. Any other differences are negligible, and most riders I know - myself included - think the original looks better.

Hello, I have a question if you could help me. The motorcycle shops in my city do not have an NXR for me to try on so I tried on the Shoei GT Air. The large size in the GT Air was too loose on my head. Do all Shoei helmets fit the same in terms of size? As in, if the large size GT Air was too big on my head, does that mean the NXR 2 in large would also be too big? Does that mean I could safely order a medium size for the NXR 2? Thank you in advance!
