Maria Pierce, more than one way to skin a cat they say. That’s the way my Dad shod. Some say it was like the old cavalry shoers. Don’t know. I’ll keeping them coming. Thanks for watching.

I love the way you don’t get crazy with the detail trimming. I do it the same way, my grandpa taught me, you’re just quicker. We mostly rode horses barefoot and he always shaped them good and lightly trimmed the sole and said next. He even had us go out on the pavement for a piece at a light trot and said “there’s your trim”.Never had a lame horse.

Thanks, In Rocky country the sole will trim it's self. Otherwise they are lame. Thanks for your input. RJF

I learned from experience to never tie up a horse to coral panel because if they get scared and pull away with panel it’s wreck.

That is same kind of people I have experienced with. I said people because they call themselves farrier that they are not.

I'm impressed with his handling of the horses 🐎 His vast experience shows. I am disappointed in the neatness of the trimming especially around the frog and heel. But I learned a lot from this video.

These horses ride in a lot of rock and get sore if you take a lot off the sole and frog. Thanks for watching.

At 6:05 when your swinging the rope when facing the horses back end is that what you do to get the horse to move again so your not in his or her blind spot to prevent you from getting kicked? I’m just curious is all.

Yes that’s part of it. I don’t let horses put their but to me and then go up to them. I like them to face me, or at least be to their side. I will tap them with the rope to let them know that’s the wrong end, then pull the pressure off when they turn to me. Thanks for the question.

Thank you for the great video. Just wondering why sometimes you use the side of your hammer to drive nails? Also are those St Croix eventers? Why do you like them? Do you use them a lot? Thank you

Jarrett, if they’re moving a little I use the side just to keep going and not miss. Habit I guess. My dad did it too. Yes they are St Croix Eventers. They are wide and protect the sole. Last pretty good too. Easy to bend with my bender. Not as easy on an anvil.

Great job. But why do not you let the horse rest his foot for 5 or 10 seconds.

I am sorry but I sure am going to vent..SHAME SHAME, SHAME on those OWNERS....not working with the horses touching their hooves their legs holding their feet tapping all around those hooves..to stand and prepare them for the farrier. Even for a vet...It is not the farrier or the vets job to train your horses..it is your job..these men and women have jobs to do. Have families to feed, pay bills..they could get seriously injured and end up worse not being able to provide for their family just because you are to lazy to train your horse to stand and be still....horses should be at the ready waiting for the farrier or vet to come..and behave..rant over...

Chris Underwood, I understand what you're saying. However, This horse was put through stupidity with a previous owner, and this Owner has and does work with her. She has a bit of an OH NO when it comes to shoeing. I worked her through stuff that only comes up with the farrier. I follow those who take the rasp to horses, and such. I think being able to tune the horse up, working them on the line makes them pay attention, and sometimes has to be done by the farrier. You can get hurt worse if you don't know how and when to work a horse. Sometimes the owner doesn't get the reaction that the farrier does, the horse only sees him 6 ish times a year. Thanks for watching.
