I guess we were all wrong about Toranaga sharing his plans with his people, seeing as he only told Hiromatsu and Mariko. And it's the fact that he didn't even have to tell anyone else that's amazing. He correctly predicted what each member of his cabinet would do, so there was no need to share his plans with anyone else, and in doing so it makes everything look that much more real to Ishido, leaving little room to assume that Toranaga is playing a trick. Hiromatsu's death is the final nail in the coffin in convincing Ishido that Toranaga is actually going to surrender. It's no wonder that people look at Toranaga the way they do, and follow him the way they do. The man is a legitimate genius and anyone that smart in the 1600s would've been a straight MENACE for their enemies lol.

I dont think he told Hiromatsu. He anticipated correctly that his generals would oppose him and that they would have to commit seppuku as a protest and that would show Osaka that Torunaga was defeated. But Hiromatsu took their place. In the official podcast, they mention that according to the Hiromatsu-actor’s perspective. These generals had been loyal for decades and served well. Ao he relieved them of their obligation. He also thought if the threat of seppuku would any effect it should come from someone closer to Torunaga. Once Hiromatsu gave the ultimatum, Torunaga could not backdown or all would be lost. He would either have to actually surrender. Or fight a battle he knew he would lose… like the warlord he defeated as a twelve year old.

@@mahadali2739 yep thats why He didn't say Hiromatsu was predictable. Toranaga didn't know it was Hiromatsu who's gonna commit Seppuku

Hiro wasn't meant to commit seppuku. it was even mentioned in the after episode official Shogun podcast that Hiro decided to commit seppuku otherwise the other generals would have done so out of protest of the surrender. At which point, despite it being the plan to make it appear he was genuinely defeated, he had no choice but to reinforce Hiro's willing act of seppuku, otherwise Toranaga's intentions would have been exposed to Ishido by stopping it.
