Regular at-bats, batting average 0.275, 35 home runs, around 100 RBIs, regular ball count, 15 wins, ERA 2.35. This is not the result of 2 players, but one man doing it. Why isn't he the MVP ?

It’s crazy how so many in the media, even many of the experts, and most of Judge’s fan just become dumb because they wanted Judge to be MVP so badly or it will be the end of the world. Even an idiot new to baseball knows that the pitcher is by far the most important position in baseball. Not only is a pitcher the most important but it is also the most difficult as well. Degrom gets $34 million dollars this year just to pitch while Judge gets $19 million dollars. I think that should say something about how important and valuable a good pitcher is...and Ohtani even outperformed Degrom this year.

DeRo: "one of the most talented ballplayers..." Talk about understatement. Ohtani is the most talented ballplayer EVER. Name just one player in history who comes close to him in terms of talents. DeRo also didn't mention Ohtani had an RBI in the same game and the bullpen almost collapsed again after he left.

Here's the difference in the MVP race, all of Judge's great stats have been done before, other than 61 HR, many times. It is highly likely we'll see a season as good as Judge offensively in the next 10, 20 years. Nobody has ever won 15 and hit 30+ HR, w/ ~100 RBI, and it is extremely unlikely someone else will do this (other than Ohtani) any time soon

So true. It's a case of having no one in history to compare Ohtani to, including Babe Ruth. (See the Colin Cowherd commentary about that comparison, which he did brilliantly last year.) I respect Judge and acknowledge his HR and slugging stats are all very impressive. But to me there's no equivalency when talking about Ohtani. Shohei is not doing as much in slugging this year compared to last year, but it's relatively close overall, and so it's the pitching that has really improved this year. This is unique, historic and unmatched by anyone. What Judge is doing is more limited, in my view, and has more historical parallels that reduce the impact. I like Judge as a person, too--great guy. But anyone who understands baseball must see that Ohtani is a spectacular and rare cat that we need to just sit and appreciate. When Judge can pitch at an elite level, I'll give him the MVP. Yankee fans can go crazy if they want, but that's just playing home team fan without perspective.

He literally carried his team in so many games where he pitched deep while giving less than 2 runs and still drove runs. Yet how many of those games he got the true WAR out of it? He could have been 20game winner if he was playing for NYY. Plus LAA will be even more deeper hole in W/L without him. Comparing a player who pretty much doing two roles elite to one position player is irrelevant. Judge is incredibly at what he is doing but he can only impact one side of game where Ohtani can single handly win a game with his pitching and hitting. Judge will win MVP as the HR chase and potential triple crown built up the narrative since Aug. But years after, people will realize what Ohtani accomplished this year will never be done again other than Ohtani himself.

What's lost in all these Judge vs Ohtani debates is the actual performance. Ohtani didn't have his usual fastball velocity and had to use his cutter and slider to shut out the A's.

Give Judge the AL MVP. AL MVP doesn’t deserve Shohei.

Ohtani is literally doing that. Nobody else has gotten close to 15 wins and 34 home runs. Nobody else has ever been top 4 in ERA+ and OPS+.

The MVP doesn't deserve someone who isn't leading the AL in a single statistical category and who is batting in the mid 200s? 🙂

@@derkardinal9781 He's leading the league in Ks per 9inning; top 3 in ERA, wins, SO. As a hitter 30+ hrs, 90+ RBIs, and .270 BA. Look up the definition of a two-way player. Judge has much much more support from his team than Ohtani from his. Judge will win because he's a Yankee and the game's love of the long ball. Stop hating and get your stats correctly.

Otani needs to be a Yankee and win. Aaron Judge is the AL MVP because the Anaheim Angels are 30+ games from the first place and he has Mike Trout next to him.

A very good night, but he's still not leading the AL in a single statistical category; not even close. He's batting in the mid 200s and his winning percentage as a pitcher is a little over 60%.
