Shoot Lightning From Your Fingertips - Shoe Enclosed Static Electricity Generator

In this video I explain how I made a shoe enclosed static electricity generator (or shoe enclosed negative ion generator as some may refer to it).
This project was inspired by the channel NightHawkInLight, I highly recommend checking out the original video linked below.
• Make a Static Electric...
The main benefit of this new design, however, is that the entire project is built inside a shoe. This lets you toggle the voltage seamlessly without your hands and doesn't require you to run any grounding wires down your leg.

Hey everyone, I know it's been a while since I've uploaded, but these videos are only a small hobby of mine and it's quite hard to find time with school. Hopefully I'll be able to make a good number over the summer though. Anyway, here is the video I promised around a year ago at the end of my very first upload - so I hope you enjoy!

Finally I've assembled my first prototype of this. My designed changed a lot along the way and now it's on my arm, concealed inside a brace with a grounding wire that runs down my body to my shoe, but it still works the same. I decided to use a slide switch instead of push button to turn it on and off since I still wanted it to be hands free when on but I couldn't use the push button since the device was no longer under my toes and a slide switch just seemed like the safest option to go with. Took me so long to gather all the parts, especially the capacitors, but I'm so happy I have my first finished prototype of this as I've been dreaming of it for years ever since I saw this video. I also gained a 3D printer since last year so that also changed my design a lot and allowed for easier attaching of parts to the brace. Wish you would upload more because this channel has really impacted me a lot.

Now working on a "Mark II" that will go instead around the calf of the leg instead of the arm to conceal it better and will hopefully try to use Bluetooth to turn it on and off from a bracelet to make it very low-profile.

Hey man, congrats on getting your first prototype to work! That's super cool! Like I mentioned in the video this project was based off of a design from the channel nighthawkinlight. And that video is what got me into electronics in the first place. So it means a lot to me that I was able to pay it forward and have that same effect for someone else. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to film while in college, but I've definitely got some projects I want to make videos about! Hopefully I'll have the time eventually. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, it really does mean a lot. And congrats again. Keep on building stuff!

have you considered carving a small kind of bullet shaped indentation into the sole of the shoe and placing the switch sideways? That way you would not place any pressure at all on the switch and would have to curl your toe to press the button. Might reduce the chances of a false trigger because your not putting pressure on the button itself.

This is cool! You think it would be possible to get a smaller but powerful transformer somewhere? The idea is not bad but when it comes to potency it would be a good idea to modify the circuit to make it look low profile. Something like making your own tiny prototype board and distribute 12 or more voltz in between both shoes. Somehow you could add a tiny Bluetooth module and program the switch to be a Bluetooth bracelet. But at least you got the experiment right, that's the harder part. Modify and prototype would be all fun is you really like what you do.
@Xenthys.
@Xenthys. 4 жыл бұрын
Very nice project! I'll stick to the usual box in the pocket since I don't want to have my circuitry bound to a shoe, but it's definitely *sneaky* with great *potential* right. You may want to be more careful with your microphone as well, touching it or its stand is very audible.

It doesn’t seem to shock as bad when the spark is jumping off of you onto something else vs just getting shocked where the sparks are jumping onto you from something else like a taser.

I am following your design for an engineering project in my school and this is the only part of the build I don't really understand. Thanks!
@PartialScience
@PartialScience 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how many stages you want to add. The idea is that each stage doubles the voltage (although in reality there are diminishing returns as you add more stages). So if you want to multiply it 14 times you'll need 14 stages for example. Here's a video I feel gives a good visual explanation of this type of circuit. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eq9ojNdiprfWeGw.html

I'm not too sure. In theory it's a very similar circuit but it might not be as powerful. Additionally you'd still need to cut the board at the output of the transformer. As for the capacitors, 120pF should be fine, but just know that the higher that number gets the more dangerous it gets as well because more current can flow through you.

Oddly enough the charging light wont go off unless I rev the engine so it seams me starting charge from the alternator isnt 1k rpm it now around 3-4 k rpm . So what can I do to prevent the voltage regulator inside the alternator to interact with those capacitors. Peopel call it plasma ignition but its just frequency or voltage multiplier . I hoppe you can help me understand that regulator how it works it has only 1 ic chip inside and I belive 1 or 2 tiny capacitors nothing ells controls the alternator . Thats the only problem I have so fare baterry is ok ,starter motor spins faster,bether engine start,smuther engine evry thing ells is ok only problem is the alternator it looks like the diode in the dashboard is bypassed . So hoppe some one can help me understand how resistors and capacitors can interact with alternator or if posibly their starting charge can be controled some how manuali .

It depends on what you want it for. Those usually have a very similar circuit inside. But, they're also usually filled with tar so you can't rip the circuit out, and as such it's basically impossible to put inside a shoe. And most importantly, they also usually use larger capacitors meaning they can put out more current and are therefore more dangerous.

I doubt you're still reading comments, but your, and anyone elses, help would be appreciated. I've worked on this project off and on for a few months now, and everything works, for a little bit, till the transistor fry's itself. I also am getting shocked in the leg by the strap, even with the battery connected to the strap, but that's a minor issue I can fix by myself. I'm wondering if it's just prolonged use frying it, and I need to give the thing a rest, or whether I need to replace it. My first attempt I used the same bug zapper used in the video, but that transistor fried aswell while I was using it, granted I was arcing the part connected to ground and the wire I connected to one side of the voltage multiplier. After frying that transistor I used a harbor freight bug zapper I got for $4. Note: I've only used it while it was in a shoe once, before it would fry before I could even get it in one. Again, any help is greatly appreciated, I have little to no idea what I'm doing. Edit: I've found a solution, I just ordered a rechargable bug zapper off of Amazon and used the included battery to charge everything, and from what I can tell, this is a bit more powerful but what is shown in the video, but that's what I wanted, anyway, thanks for the amazing video partial science, this was a fun project through and through!

Hahah, trust me I know the pain. I've fried countless transistors with this thing. Two things which helped though were soldering a 3 pin socket to the board so I could just swap new transistors if they got fried without having to resolder. And then buying more powerful transistors. I eventually settled for NECD882s. Also, a bigger strap that's held to your leg tighter should stop it from shocking you (unless you wired the wrong end of voltage multiplier to it in which case the residual AC spikes will... tingle a bit)
