A gun that is more special to me than it is to you. It's my grandpa's gun that I bought from him at age 21, so that he wouldn't sell it for a song. It was like new when I bought it, and I have broken it in by now.

Good Video buddy. I had a Taurus Mod-92 and Loved it. I like where they put the safety. That Pistol shot accurate and was dependable. I recommend the 92 Taurus to most people out there looking for their first pistol and don't want to spend a lot of money. Good shooting to ya, Dave.

Now that is a first rate video, real content. I could have said my S&W 22A which I have put around 12,000 to 15,000 rounds but actually it is my Ruger mk 3. Yeah I know both are pea shooters but they are the ones I use the most. The Ruger has a sort of malfunction right now, light primer strikes. I was going to use it this Sunday for the steel challenge but now I am afraid it will malfunction and cost me time. So it is a Smith I will be using.

Thanks for the compliment. I haven't shot a 22A, but I genuinely like S&W guns, including their notorious 12 ga. I really like the S&W pumps, but I understand why they have a bad reputation. One of my favorite guns is The S&W 22016/422/etc family. I have a 6" 2206 TGT and it is is an effortless gun to shoot well with. Everything on it is a little wierd and unconventional. The lug OVER the barrel, a tensioned barrel, the grip angle. The mag release in the middle of the front strap.... How thin and flat the gun is. All those things add up to a gun that just points and shoots smoothly and hits, and hits and hits. It uses model 41 magazines, and is really nice with a suppressor. Or at least the aluminum 422 is. I haven't had a suppressor on mine, but I expect it to be just as good as my buddy's. I feel the same way about my uncle's and my brother's 6" smith model 66 revolvers. Any time I feel like I can't shoot worth beans, I use one of those and I can't miss for a decent streak. If it is a placebo, prescribe me some more.

I hear folks bad-mouth Taurus, and for many of them I understand their displeasure when I hear their experience, but I've never had any trouble with them. (I've never shot any Taurus semiautos. I am really enjoying my Beretta 92S.) Great coffee chat!

They are like a lot of companies. Bad models here and there, a few excellent models, and they had a period where they were cheap imports. Now, like kia, honda, and toyota, they make a few models that are hard to match. I haven't heard complaints about their 6 shot clone of the S&W 66 and plan to get one of each. My PT99AF has been excellent, though I suspect that the beretta barrels are a bit better made, and I love my 738. I genuinely believe that the Taurus 738 (TCP) is a better gun than the ruger LCP, and than the P3At that both are copies of. The LCPII is probably a step above though.

pt II. The history of the Taurus PT 92, PT99, etc. Is sort of a fork in the road for Beretta. As you probably know, Beretta had a plant in Brazil and sold the tooling and license to Taurus. This happened not very long before the US trials that ended up with the M9. The older versions of the model 92 had safeties on the frame, like Taurus. The military in typically absurd fashion demanded a slide mounted safety decocker that was just out of reach, and swung the wrong way. A real downgrade IMO. Beretta obliged. I think the original layout is much better. I would rather have a decocker only instead of a safety, but mounting controls on the slide is just a bad move. Beretta now has better metallurgy in their locking blocks, and I suspect their barrels can handle a little more pressure. However, newer berettas have plastic in places that I wouldn't want plastic: the trigger. I genuinely think that if you want a really nice Beretta 92, you put a Beretta barrel on a Taurus gun. Taurus also beat Beretta to the automatic firing pin disconnect, which is a sensible improvement without any downside. I think Beretta would have done so earlier, if the military pattern hadn't been set. Your S model is another fork in the road, with it's magazine release, and incorporating some improvements, and some old standards. BTW, LifeSize potato has an original pattern M92 which is interesting to see.

Wow, that’s a round count that any gun would be proud of! I think all of that generation was like that. Something about growing up in the depression era made them try and help everyone out. My grandfather was the same way. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

There's a thread called "75,000 rounds through a model 58" or something like that on cast boolits. I found it inspirational, and thought after decades I might cross that. Casting changed that for me, and it probably only took 3-4 years. Some of the IPSC and 3 gun guys do that over a summer. The shocking thing is how little it all cost. Grampa is not doing very well in the last couple of months. He's 91 and aged a lot recently.
