I am shooting a 1962 Savage 99E lever action in .308 and taking a look at a previous 1906/07 Savage lever action , Model 1889 , in .303 Savage . Looking at similarities and differences in the two rifles

@@LeBigBirdo I like them also , it really would not have been what I would look for , but with the passing of my dad last May is when my brother , sister & myself acquired the different firearms from our dad . My sister has the .303 Savage , which, Belonged to our grandfather & I have the .308 which was my dad’s . I hope ours last in the family as long as yours has . Thanks for sharing about yours

The round indicator with rotary magazine on the Savage 99 was never discontinued. The 99E was an economy version that never had a round counter but still used the rotary magazine. The 99C in which the C stands for CLIP, which is what Savage called it along with most other manufacturers of the day that made firearms with a removable ammunition storage device, also had no round counter because of the design. The late model 99F and others still used a round counter but sometime after 1960 it was changed to aluminum instead of brass. The only universal change for all models, of which there weren't very many after 1960, was the tang safety. Just like manufacturing costs were the demise of the "Pre 64" Winchester Model 70, so it was with the Savage Model 99. Even adding several new chamberings like 243 Winchester and 22-250 Remington couldn't save it. I'm on my 5th model 99 and always looking for another one.

Nice video! I used to have one of those 1960s vintage .308s. Wish I’d never sold it. It didn’t have family history though. Cool that you’ve got your dad’s and your grandfather’s. One of my favorite lever designs.

Thank you , my father just gave the .308 recently to me , I was a little surprised by the recoil on it , seemed a little more then other .308’s that I have shot

This video made me look into what full rifle caliber lever actions go for these days… really quite expensive, more than many .308 semi-autos. You’ve got something very valuable there.

Thank you , it is , if I can express it , prideful , that I have two rifles by the same manufacture in two different calibers . One from my Grandfather & one from my Father . So there is a personal history that I know , rather then buying one and knowing just the linage history of the rifle . Even with the older lever action rifles they were made in several calibers . Thanks for watching and that it was interesting for you

Family guns are the best guns! Your model 1899 is an early saddle ring carbine, the staple on the left side has been removed. We call that a model 1899F. Nice video!

I have thought about acquiring some more in different calibers ,also like the bullet count window the older ones have . I will also inherit some firearms from my dad , some are not what I would buy , so I am not sure if I will keep them or trade out to something I do want .

Again bought at a gun shop & also on line . Right now it is a little harder to find it . The two on line stores I used are Aim Surplus & SG Ammo

It is hard to say why , I looked it up and of course I find different dates on when Savage stopped making the model 99 and the reason why the stopped and reasons why they have not revived the Model 99 . Possibly cost , machinery and people wanting new and better . I do like the two variations that I have , plus one being my grandfathers and the other being my dads

Dropping the gun to cycle the action is a sign of a non shooter . That causes misses .

Yes , I could have keep the rifle shouldered in this video since I had someone doing the videoing for me . Most of the time I shoot , stop , change camera placement & shoot again , plus most of my ammo is costly I glance to see where they are falling , to retrieve the spent casings . I do always shoulder , aim then fire . I do thank you for your observation and the comment and for watching the video

You mispronounced words like lever and powder point just to get comments? I never knew that that many people didn't know how to speak English. When a vowel is by itself in a word, unless it has a modifier, it is a short vowel. The first e in lever is a short e, not a long e.. And I think you just misspoke when you said powderpoint instead of PowerPoint. And that lock for the lever is not a safety. It's a mechanism to lock the lever. That doesn't mean it's safe. It may have a sear block attached to it. But it is not a safety it's primary purpose is to lock the lever.

First thank you for watching the video & I do welcome comments good or bad . I do know I am not the best speaker , though I try my best and have misspoken some words and with comments I gain a better understanding about a firearm I have , because someone knows more about then I do . Also I don’t just misspeak or mispronounce words on purpose , that is not what I am about or who I am . Again thanks for the gained knowledge on this firearm
