Great video. Guys having fun at the range with an iconic weapon. One day, I would love to see a shoot out between, an STG44 and an FG42 (Fallschirmjaegergewehr = paratroop rifle). Both were weapons ahead of their time, and both are examples of what German industry could produce.

For being basically nearly one of the first production automatic rifles, it's design really passes the test of time as looking super cool. ...Ofc, it was over engineered internally, but whatever, it's German, what did you expect? I'm eagerly awaiting Palmetto State Armory's Sturmgewehr remake, they'll offer it in the original Kurz cartridge, 5.56, 300 Black Out, & 7.62x39.
@chuckcribbs3398 Жыл бұрын
Palmetto State Armory just bought Hill & Mac Gunworks, a company that was trying to bring an StG-44 clone to market but ran into legal and manufacturing issues. PSA is promising their StG-44 to be out this year, in multiple calibers: 5.56, .300 Blackout, 7.62x39 (AK) and the original 7.92x33, 8mm Kurz. I’m getting one as soon as they start selling them!

It’s a Sturmgewehr, which literally translates as Assault Rifle. Kurz means short. By 1944 they really couldn’t take the time for Reichsadlers (Eagles).
@red9man2130 Жыл бұрын
That ammo is SERBIAN Manufacture. the Germans referred to it as 8mm SHORT. I firmly believe the soviets were inspired by this design to produce the AK-47!

Forward military planners back in the 1930's mostly knew that intermediate full auto rifles were the wave of the future. Of course some did not want it and we still some like that today. The 7.62x39 cartridge dates from about 1943 and the soviets knew they wanted something like the MP44. The German went ahead without Hitler knowing about it. He did not want them wasting resources on the project. Besides the fedorov rifle, in WWI there was some limited use of converted to full auto 351 winchester Semiautoloading rifles.
@chuckcribbs3398 Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. They saw the need for an intermediate cartridge but the action of the AK-47 is completely different than an StG-44. The trigger of the StG alone has over 200 parts. Another example of German over-engineering.
@loquat44-40 Жыл бұрын
@@chuckcribbs3398 Certainly the AK is different, but when I said: ''soviets knew they wanted something like the MP44. '' Like means a rifle with select fire and firing an intermediate cartridge. The MP designation mean submachine and the soviet initially intended the AK to take the role of a submachine gun and the SKS was to be the rifle. Well that went by the wayside obviously when the SKS was considered second line equipment. The Soviets even imported germans to help them with learning how to stamp sheet metal and that did not work too well either initially. Took a few years to get AK stamping technology right.

The designer of the Sturmwehr 44, Hugo Schmeisser, was most likely involved in the design of the AK-47. On April 3, 1945, US troops occupied the city of Suhl and immediately imposed a production ban on all weapons factories. Hugo Schmeisser and his brother Hans were interrogated for weeks by teams of weapons experts from the US and British secret services. At the end of June 1945, the Americans evacuated Thuringia and the Red Army occupied the plant. In August 1945, 50 assault rifles 44 were assembled from existing assembly parts and transferred by the Red Army to the Soviet Union for technical evaluation, at the same time as 10,785 sheets of technical drawings for the production of military weapons. In October 1945, Hugo Schmeisser was obliged to work in a so-called Technical Commission of the Red Army. These commissions had the task of determining the latest status of German weapons technology in order to incorporate the results into their own Soviet developments. In October 1946, Hugo Schmeisser was forcibly deported to the Soviet Union for several years as a weapons technology specialist as part of the Ossawakim operation. This fate affected many weapons designers from the factories in the city of Suhl. On October 24, 1946, the German weapons designers were brought in a special train to Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt ASSR in the foothills of the Middle Urals and the location of a weapons factory (today Izhmash) since 1807. Little is known about Hugo Schmeisser's exact activities in Izhevsk between 1946 and 1952. How important he was for the Soviet Union became clear again in 1952, when all other German specialists were allowed to return, but his stay in the Soviet Union was briefly extended by six months, so that he did not return to Germany until June 9, 1952.

Well, this gun has a 30-round capacity, is fully automatic and lighter than the M1 Garand. The M1 only have an edge in firepower since it uses a full-power cartridge, while the STG44 use an intermediate cartridge, but it will sure still get the job done within 300m.

Actually is 8.22mm and PPU is a Serbian manufecter of amunnition Kurz or polte is short in German and the true size of this cartridge is 8.22x33mm the perfect size, the cartridges have the german name of 8mm Kurz or polte refering to the cartridges being a 8mm mauser short cartidge same dimension but short case and lighter bullet, OK
@HayMaker-tv2dm9 ай бұрын
I dont know why this cartridges not being used and update to higher pressures, this cartridges are loaded to only 40.000 psi or less this cartridge olds much more pressure thats the same cartridge of the Mauser 8mm that is rated to more than 56.000 psi and thats why this cartridges update to 56.000psi would be the perfect self defense cartridges better than.30 carbine is already better but with a increase in pressure to 55.000psi this cartridges will rival the russians M43 7.92x39mm that was influenced by this one. It got the perfect size and weight ranging from 110 grains to 131 grains easily and will reach 2500 feet with just a increase in pressure because tests in WW 2 bullets range from 38.000psi to 43.000 very low pressure you can increase in 30% easily this cartridge and will be a pussy cat for hunting, self defense, plinking, and even combat no doubt alot of testing was put on this cartridges and they are great to 300m and in battle thats what your eye can see without aid from optics
