This particular shooting sequence was performed at 5 yards. You can start at 3, 5, 7, and so on. Biggest thing is to make it fun and challenging.

I really like this drill. I have been using it all this year. I try to go to the range every sunday or every other sunday. I have found that specific drills like this give me purpose and help to spend my ammo wisely. Gone are the days of just blasting paper for me. Practice should be productive. Thanks for sharing Crocket.

Your group was tighter on dot 5 with the strong hand only than they were with two hands! #10 was interesting. I think breaking your grip to reload, then not getting it established quickly was pulling you downward.

Great video and presentation. Except....Circle 5 is a string of five shots not five separate shots from the holster like Circle 2. Circle 8 is also an uninterrupted string. You do not need to drop to low/no ready. Again, great video though.

I like the thought of accuracy shooting a lot more then speed shooting but I'm new to shooting and have never understood with aiming at small targets like you are, I have a sig sp2022 and it has combat sights. how am I expected to aim at a target and hit it when the front dot completely covers up what it is I'm aiming at?
@Khorton014
@Khorton014 8 жыл бұрын
Try this drill. What you will see over time is a drastic improvement in your combat accuracy. Just like any other sport, shooting starts with the fundamentals. Me and a shooting buddy shoot 200 rounds every other week using our carry guns. This is how we start our range session. After we do dot torture we move on to other drills. What we have found is that our combat accuracy on those faster drills has improved exponentially. I use Ameriglo I-Dot Pros. They have a large front sight, maybe not as big as XS big dots, but still large. You should be able to see a 2inch dot at 3 yards, which is where you should start anyways.

I will try that next time I go out. Each time I have been out recently, (after three fast shots from the draw for my "cold benchmark") I have been shooting the 8" plate starting at 15 yards and moving back five yards at a time till I miss more then 1 in three. It is the same Idea, to work on fundamentals, but this dot drill is more inclusive and concise.

The drill isn't timed, but you can use time to establish a baseline since we all want to be faster and more accurate. On the draw, there's no reason to draw slowly, only fire slowly.
@Khorton014
@Khorton014 8 жыл бұрын
Taking time to perfect the mechanics of the draw is important as well. I usually run this with a fast draw, but I think tomorrow I'm going to run a slow deliberate draw like he is.

Good drill. This is just an observation, but meant to be helpful. You're very consistent, but I noticed that except for target #8, only 6 of 45 shots were right of the centerline of each target. Some were on it, but most were left of it. Maybe you could simply adjust your sights to move the point of impact over to the right a little bit?

Nice groups, except for this is a "drill" not an accuracy test taking your time defies the purpose of drawing the gun before shooting it, also dot 5 is 5 consecutive shots with strong hand without reholstering, of course you can do what you want, just for those looking for am actual explanation of the drill that wasn't correct, nice shooting tho

Check your sights, check sight picture, then trigger finger may be pushing to the left and anticipating. Remember that you want to fire slow and feel the trigger finger finishing flat with equal pressure to the rear after the shot. To feel this you need to maintain pulling the trigger to the rear after the shot instead of letting it ride forward after the gun fires. Watch how your front sight moves during recoil. If it up and to the right then yours ticketing anticipating or flinching in the opposite direction. Best way to fix most mechanism of grip, sight alignment and trigger control is dry fire practice covered elsewhere on KZfaq.
