Can you handle shooting .38 Special +P ammo in the extremely lightweight, Ruger LCR revolver? I put over 70 rounds thru my Ruger and guess what it did to my hand.

The Ruger LCR 38 Special 13 Oz. has an awesome trigger. I wanted a revolver and it took me about a year to decide on which one to get. I wanted something light, reliable, efficient, and not too expensive. Bingo, the Ruger 38 won. Love to shoot with it, it's right on target every time. It's a keeper.

A lot of guys look down their noses at a revolver. Many more sneer at .38 rounds. But seeing that little revolver do the job up close and personal and long distance, I suspect it gained a bit of respect here. Also very beautiful country there.

I have a .357mag and .44mag and .45acp. But I also have some .22 pistols. I shot some 3" thick books with those .22 handguns at 20'. You would be surprised at the shape of those distorted pieces of .22 lead I dug out. They were razor sharp and about a half inch long by 1/4" wide. Nothing I would want in my insides. They penetrated 250 pages of the hard covered books. Rather impressive for even a .22. .357 of course would blow right through th em and in fact with 5 shots I blew through them with the .22s.

The thing to keep in mind is that for most of us, a pocket revolver is a dedicated CC self defense weapon, not so much for plinking for fun. While a large caliber snub nose is going to have a recoil that might be unpleasant, if I am in a self defense scenario and the adrenaline flowing, the last thing I am going to be thinking about is how my wrist is smarting.

I'm thinking the 357 LCR firing 38s absorb more recoil at 17oz than the 38 @ 13oz, and may be the way to go, adding 4oz weight for less recoil and potentially faster and more accurate follow-up shots.

@@JakeRoy98 look up the video “wadcutters for self defense” by Lucky Gunner. Wadcutters are an interesting low-recoil option for revolvers, though you want to carry something with more of a traditional round/cone shape for emergency reloads because wadcutters might be harder to insert under duress.

Great review and great shooting. I have an S&W that weighs about 10 oz. It's a very accurate snub. It does start to get to my hand though after of box of just regular ammo. The +P is obviously more snappy. Recently picked up a Sig P238 380 and that is a whole lot more pleasant to shoot. Feels great in an ankle holster, too.

I like a lot of things about the LCR. Great trigger, lightweight, carries very well. The carry melt helps it draw very smoothly. There's a nice aftermarket for grips and sights. Mine shoots better than a scandium J frame, but not as well as an aluminum alloy J frame. To me, the LCR is a little light to comfortably fire more than a handful of +Ps. I tend to carry the 130g Winchester Defend standard velocity rounds in it. Thanks for the video!

I'm impressed with how accurate you are with that small revolver with small fixed sights. I have a S&W 442 that I equipped with Crimson Trace laser grips. I do not enjoy shooting 38+P ammo with it. The little guy is in my hand when I investigate something that went bump in the night. One night I heard a noise in the back yard. I came out of the house with the laser on and swung through an arc of the yard. The red dot on his body made the intruder yell "don't shoot" and he jumped over the fence. Police weren't far behind... Good thing that little gun can hide in a pocket or I might have had some explaining to do.

I find it interesting that some folks get real strange over snubbies, Like it just is not tactical. Who cares? They fit in the pocket and draw extremely easy and shoot straight. What's not tactical about that? Ergonomics are great for a three finger snubbie. The trigger is nice and the sights are very easy to get on target. A winner. Fit's me just fine, fits my pocket and 38 +p is a decent round.

I have been going back and forth with the lcrx 357 or the lcrx 38. The 3 inch barrel starts taking advantage of velocity potential of the 38 and 357. 357 lcrx is 21 oz. The lcrx 38 is 17 oz. Another awesome video! I have the LCR 38sp with the CT laser grips. Fun shooter, a bit snappy like my LCP, but lots of fun! I've been running Winchester white box ammo thru it on the range and Hornady Critical Defense when I carry. I haven't shot any +P yet as I'm not sure my girly hands would appreciate the bite! Are you using plain food coloring in the water for the targets? Thanks for sharing!

G. Gorden Liddey in his book "Will" descibes as a young FBI agent practicing with his .38 revolver until the tip of his index finger bled. He put bandages on and continued practicing up to 8 hours a day. And he put that marksmanship to use. Great read gentlemen.

I never like the revolvers because my father's service firearm was a 38 revolver with a hammer and he showed me how careless people get tangled with the hammer. I checked the LCR as you suggested and just simply fell in love with it. The weight the grip handle and without a hammer got my attention and simply bought a 357 LCR and now using it as my back up weapon. Thanks

Great video! Got a buddy that carries one the ones in 357 mag. I've never shot it, but I dry fired it and it is a smooth trigger pull. I'll bet its rough recoil with magnums!

Yes indeed, these light polymer revolvers generate a lot of recoil when shooting magnum loads. I'm guessing most owners carry +P ammo in these types of revolvers.

@@mixup98 i truly mean it. You are an amazing shooter! And what beautiful property you have to do all of your fun practicing...not a care in world! That is how life SHOULD bd. I have seen your videos before...i love your vid on beretta cx4 storm and made my husband watch it..he was amazed at your skills. I have to get that gun. I am going to rent it at my local range and give it a whirl. I have just purchased my very first firearm and should arrive next week...glock 19 and am so excited to shoot it. Take care and thanks for great entertainment. You and Hickok45 are my heros!

Congratulations on your first firearm. As you probably know I also own a Glock 19 and you have made a great choice. I hope you get the chance to rent the Storm and shoot it. The trigger may feel crappy but it really is a great carbine and I'm sure you will love shooting it. Be safe, have fun and enjoy our 2nd Amendment.

did about 70 rounds hollow point & regular, similiar range in northern WI - yes my hand hurt too - but if you are a small woman like me, it is essential to practice a lot with this as it does have a kick. Very comfy carrying in my purse or jacket pocket in riot central milwaukee

So here is my experience with my LCRx. I am going to post this on every Ruger LCR thread so that buyers can be aware of the issue I have had. I waited for the LCRx to come out in 327 Federal because I wanted the exposed hammer. Having tested the trigger in a local shop for both the LCR and the LCRx I was satisfied that Ruger had really come up with a smooth trigger. This particular shop only had the 38 Special and not the cartridge I was looking for so I ordered the LCRx in 327 from a internet based retailer. Upon receiving the revolver I found that the second half of the trigger pull in double action was sticky or in other words NOT SMOOTH. I called the retailer who sold it too me and told them about the problem. They said they would take it back but charge me a restocking fee of 20%. Of course at that point I was already out the shipping and FFL fees, OR I could send it to Ruger for them to fix under warranty. So I sent it to Ruger only to have upon its return, THE SAME Problem, AND after about 50 dry firings the cylinder locked up. Once again I sent it back, they fixed the cylinder problem but ONCE AGAIN, the trigger pull was unacceptable. So now it is on it's way back to Ruger...... for the third time My recommendation is to use a local dealer who has what you want in stock. If they don't and can order it for you, do so With the understanding that it must be delivered with the gun working properly in every respect before you pay for it. Further if you do order a firearm via the internet be sure that the seller agrees to take it back and reimburses you for shipping & FFL charges if it is not as represented. Beware that gunbroker.com had a fraud policy of up to $500.00 but it also has a 100.00 dollar deductible.

I have the LCRx, which I use for summer carry. I get tired of the trigger finger slap before my hand starts complaining. Having a super-lightweight carry option was the whole point of buying the gun and it meets that requirement completely. I actually like the trigger better than any of my stock Smith&Wessons. I've run quite a few 158 gr. +P reloads through it at the range. I just have to do it in small doses.

Going the extra mile for your viewers again, right Mr. mixup98? Let the rough end drag buddy! I so enjoy your videos and you have cinched it for me: I am gettin' me a Ruger LCR. From one mountain man to another-beautiful vistas behind you there. The one drawback for me would be the lack of water. We get between 45 to 55 inches of rain on average here in East Tennessee.
