You made a good choice in compressor style, the belt driven piston compressor runs at a much lower RPM and is much quieter than those cheap high RPM compressor. a couple of things I would suggest is drop down drain pipe and valve where you start going up to the highest point and when you take air off of the high pipe to drop down to your user station take it off of the top of the pipe and then down. Nice job.

the bottom line here is , if your not getting any condensation in the lines, its great, just drain it at the end of the work day and u should be just fine, i know theres a milllion opinions out there, but if u dont get any condensation or water in your tools etc... youve got it made sir. i had simlar set up a while back, i to did my self with some friends, i used some telflon etc... never had problems great video.

Your water separator will work better if you move it further from your compressor. The air holds moisture until it cools, so if you move the separator down the line, it will catch more water.

we use black pipe where I work for industrial machinery, but we "pickle" it first ( it's an acid dip) keeps the rust scale from building up inside.

Just A thought, If the quick connectors would point down there would be less stress on hose and quick connector ,and they may not start leaking as fast .

Nice video, you do some great work. One thought though... most often you want to slope your pipe runs going down hill *away* from the compressor, that way the condensed water isn't fighting the flow of the air as it flows to wards your drains.

we built a long sheetmetal tank , filled with a muratic acid/water solution.. The bundles of pipe are submerged in the tank from a few days to a week. It is used for several things from air to hydrolic fluid. I work at a company that designs and builds industrial machinery.

You should think about getting a larger diameter flexible hose from the compressor into your piping. Your are constricting your flow out of the tank to the air line volume, then you are going back into 1/2". You can get 1/2 or 3/4 inch air hose pretty inexpensively.

Ball valves are worth the cost s..as a blow out...I have a similar set up..in my garage...at home I have a mid 1990s inground lift ...I put a drop bye my air control for the lift..to keep water out..I used the same type of pipe black pipe.......pipe dope works the best..yellow gas line dope I used..I have a 4 bay garage at home..for my old cars..I also have a auto tank drain on my compressor..as well I live in fl. Vary hot weather here and a HVAC system in my garage..to stay cool...funny thing I have an 2008 Omega air compressor. Depending on your shop purpose I would go with 3/4 piping. Air flow and pressure drops considerably over long runs and larger volume pipes reduce that. The setup I did ran over 100 feet with 5 work stations for up to 3/4 inch impact guns sandblasters, needle scalers and hotel air for trolley and locomotive tank static charging. The typical 3/8 rubber air hose is my biggest restriction if I use more than 100 feet of it.

Hey Dony, just a tip for others use universal couplers at least on the ends of the hose as we all know air tools do not always have the same plugs (the fitting you connect to the couplers) I only use universals it's just more convenient..

Hi Donny. I noticed you said about the slight incline on the horizontal run to drain the water back. In industrial applications (uk) when we take a branch or drop of in hard pipe like this the junction goes up first before coming down to stop water also, negates the need of a valve at the bottom to drain. Cheers

Compression (ferrule), flare, and unions are the same deal. The metal to metal contact makes the seal. You can, however, use pipe dope or a few drops of oil (depending on the application) as a lube to allow the threads to tighten further than they would without. I just sealed a leaky union earlier today by putting some LA-CO Slic-Tite on the male union half. It worked great! Thank you for making me expand on my comment. Have a great day :D

Great video on air set up in a shop. Only suggestion I might make would be to punch an air fitting through the wall for when you are working outside so you do not have open the big door and drag a hose outside on a cold day. Just keep a short hose with fittings out by the tap. Tony Port Hadlock, WA Port Hadlock

I would have installed one port for the larger 1/2 dia. Hose for larger air impacts. Using a smaller compressor I use both ports to plug in tools and bleed them together in a mixing valve and have the air flow for my larger air tools that need a larger flow.

@71dembonesTV 11 жыл бұрын
Sir, i believe you are correct. Looking ay my comment; I did say "seal". I should have implied that it was a lubricant. In pipe threads, it is the slight taper that makes the seal and the "thread sealing compound" whether it be PTFE tape or dope is a lubricant. This is the same reason you put a drop of fresh oil on the o ring on your new oil filter before screwing it on.

Looks like a good setup. It seems to me a bit unorthodox to use black iron pipe for shop air, but to each his own. I would always opt for copper pipe (i know it's expensive, but also easier to work with) with brazed joints. However, for your garage it's really up to you. For any commercial or medical gas lines: Must be copper tubing (Medical gas specific pipe for medical) with silver solder brazed joints. Of course brazing must be done with a nitrogen flow, too. Nice video

Just a thought here but you might want to move your water trap/filter further away from the compressor so it catches the maximum amount of water because it doesn't do you air tools any good with water in them.

Thanks Donyboy your videos are always straight to the point and demonstrate quality, it's apparent you take pride in the good quality of work you do. Can you put the 120 volt wire that is hanging off your air pipe in a external gang box. having a wire just hanging off the pipe would worry me if the small wire caps would happen to just fall off if the wire vibrates off of where you have it temporary hanging. I'm sorry I'm not trying to be a jerk I just do not want to read that you where electrocuted. Oh flex hope idea off the compressor is 100% in my book I will use this idea.

I've been hoping somebody would post this video. THANKS! I've been thinking about doing this, to allow me to mount the compressor in a different room to cut down on shop noise and to give me a little more room in the shop. Do they ever put a drier on the intake of the compressor, to try and cut down on water in the compressor reservoir? Don't you want the drier to be between the compressor and the reservoir tank?

Something else to add to each of the outlets would be a regulator to have a lower pressure for a different tool, rather than having all of the pipes at the same from the tank. Idk what kinds of pneumatic tools you have but the ones that I have range in pressure from 40 to 125 psi.

I'm suprised you couldn't get the PTFE tape to work. I like to use tape instead of dope in almost any threaded fitting. With crude threads like black iron and galvinized pipe; you need more wraps than you might think. Threaded PVC, copper, and brass can be sealed with three wraps. Anything else should get at least 5. But, it looks like you got it worked out. That Pro-Dope is the best stuff to use if you're going that route. The Rectorseal "5" soft-set dope is good stuff, too.

Don: Nice set-up. My only question is; was there a reason for metal piping over plastic? Seems to me plastic would be alot cheaper and easier to work with (cutting and later expansions) and would certainly handle the pressures of your compressor. Just wondering

interesting... The internal corrosion/rusting was my only reason for concern with using that material. I know it's used for natural gas but that's not what you were talking about I don't believe. What gas(es) are flowing thru "pickled" black iron at your place of business? Where do you work btw?
