I've had one for over 12 years and love working with it. A couple of the mods I made was to get a good collet set, a quick change post for 1/2" tooling, a threading dial from a Grizzly catalog. a good 4" milling vice and more assorted tooling than the improved unit cost by far. I've made a bunch of neat things with it and it keeps me out of trouble on a rainy day. Highly recommend.

Thanks for the video. I just bought one of these and want to get a collet set. You mentioned changing the drawbar out to 1/2 inch over the 3/8. Did you have to make any changes to the headstock or does the 1/2 drawbar fit as is.

The Collet set is an MT3 ER40 23 piece kit. I bought it on EBay for $185 and it's worth every penny. It's extremely well made. I hope this helps.

+Budzilla Sohoski I just bought one of these machines. Is the drawbar thread 3/8" at 16 threads per inch? That is what their website states but I haven't torn it apart yet. I have another ER32 collet chuck with 5 collets so I'm looking for just the holder with MT3... but I'm not positive on the threading. I would assume their website is correct but would appreciate it if you could confirm.

I just checked on mine, and yes, the drawbar is 3/8" and 16 threads per inch.

Thanks Craig. I found a proper collet holder on ebay for like $30. Now I need to get / make most of the change gears. If you have the dimensions (diameter & thickness) of them, could you let me know. Replacement parts are crazy expensive. I have access to a laser cutter and was thinking of cutting them from delrin. Not sure if that would work or not.

great video! wish you had a clearer camera lens. did it come assembled?
@budzillasohoski98583 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. Yeah I apologize for the camera work. All of my videos from now on will be much clearer. The machine does come assembled and it is heavy! If you buy this, absolutely plan on having a couple buddies helping you out. If you try moving it yourself you'll get into trouble. Mostly because not only is it heavy but the mill tower makes it Top Heavy as well.

You mention doing brake rotors, can you explain how that was done or perhaps make a video? How did you go about connecting the rotor to the lathe? Really curious to understand this. Thanks!
@budzillasohoski98589 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've been asked to make a video a couple of times but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Basically, I just made a hub with a shaft. The shaft goes into the chuck and the rotors mont onto the hub. This way I can the do the fronts and backs of the rotors just as if I were facing a piec of stock.

Great video, I agree. I have an older grizzly 4015 which is essentially the same machine and I like it allot. Where did you get your collet set? Also where did you get your tool post ? I bought my machine second hand and the tool post holder and chuck were gone. I have a managed to get a chuck but still need the tool post holder and the collet set including the new draw bar would be great. Thanks man
@budzillasohoski98589 жыл бұрын
I actually bought the collet set one eBay. I would just look around there and online...like Google. My tool post came with the machine but again, you can find the easily and cheap on eBay. As for the drawbar, I just bought a lag bolt that was 18" long at Lowes, turned it down on the lathe and then threaded it to match the MT taper. You could make a tool post too. I get a lot of questions and people forget that a lathe is the only tool in the workshop that can truly duplicate itself. If you have the stock, time and patience.....you can make pretty much everything you need. I literally make something on my lathe almost every single day. Please, if you have any questions...feel free to ask. I love to help : ) I hope this helps you.

what is the height of your bench and how do you fasten the machine to the bench I'm looking to purchase one what size are your tool bits do you use carbide
@budzillasohoski9858 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. The machine comes fastened to a wooden base during shipping. It’s kind of a make shift pallet. It’s quite sturdy so I simply kept it on the pallet. I purchased one of those hydraulic lift tables from harbor freight so I could move it around by myself as it’s quite heavy…around 500lbs if I remember correctly….then I lifted it to a height that was comfortable for me (this will vary depending on your height) and simply bolted on two front legs and used bolts and anchors in the back to hard mount it to the wall. I use all 1/2 inch tools in the lathe though I do have some 1/4 inch for threading etc. I use both carbide and high speed steel. I put a collet on the mill that can use all different size bits….Depends on the job. If you’re considering purchasing one of these don’t wait. They go up in price every year. There’s not a week that goes by that I’m not using it. It’s a real asset to my shop. One I could never live without now.
