It’s great to see real mechanics and not parts changers, as a 77 year old working on cars before I had drivers license, your channel is better than any show on TV. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Everyone starts out as a parts changer. Some shops have strictly diag guy and strictly “parts changers” Try “part changing” on semis. Very few ppl can do it because it’s hard work heavy dirty work but you still need a brain to change certain parts
@johnwright9372
@johnwright9372 3 ай бұрын
Parts changers used to be known as fitters. While every mechanic shop needs them, too many set up in the auto repair business and are just cowboys. Dave has real mechanics. Once the basic knowledge is acquired, experience is all.

Dave is the best. I have an 18 year old son that has been apprenticing at a GM dealer for over a year in a work program while maintaining a 3.9 GPA and will graduate in a few months. They will pay him a great wage while training him and getting him certified. I have taught him since he was young to value himself while being the hardest worker in the room.

Smart Dad as a Diesel tech, Yes and love what you do or please do something else, I see too many Young techs who really don't care much about the Quality of work being done, You might get away with it for a while but it will find You. Get off of the PHONE'S while at work on the clock unless of course it's business related... I'll rest my case.

It’s good to see that some kids even with high GPAs are still choosing trades instead of going to a traditional college. College is almost worthless now unless you are going into medicine or law etc. More companies should start accepting interns that are directly out of high school.

Dave, you and I are from a different time when people were taught to take pride in their work. I think the biggest problem with mechanics/Shops today is too many of them want to overbill "book hours" for a job and then under deliver on the results. Just do good work and bill realistically for the work done and you'll do fine. Also, I think dealerships are to blame for people's mistrust in mechanics. They've forgotten the value of customer satisfaction for loyalty.

AND the dealership service department wants a "completely satisfied" csss. If the customer gives the dealership a proper survey report, the dealership will try to BANN the customer. I am proof. Dealerships and their circus department can eat it. They don't deserve an A+ for doing D- work.

I just found your channel not long ago and I have to compliment you on the way you make a point to speak to your front line employees on a regular basis. I see so many similarities in how I used to manage. I call it MBWA, management by walking around. So often managers, directors, VP's, and owners, get locked behind a desk until one day they look up and ask what the hell happened? I've always been a firm believer that going to the front line is the best way to know what's hurting or helping your people and your business. Build good relationships with your people and they will be the first to tell you when something is wrong, and when there is a problem they can often give you the solution on the spot because they have had their hands all over it. It's so much better than finding out on your own when it's too late. Teaching them to work the problem instead of guessing is solid gold. It builds confidence and improves quality. Keep the faith, Dave. You're in good hands.

Nice to hear you talking about EGT's Dave. A boost and EGT gauge will give you two of the best pieces of information about your engine. As a Toyota Landcruiser turbo diesel owner in Australia, I'm often driving on mountain roads in high ambient temperatures which sometimes means I drive according to my gauges simply to protect the health of my engine. Prolonged and excessively high EGT's are death for a diesel engine.

I've never worked in a shop as a professional, but I've lived around it in many aspects, enough to know when things are proper and correct. Mainly how the guys talk about what there doing to these autos. High quality shops all sound the same, everyone always just states the facts, no fluff, no dancing around any description They always own what they do, and have confidence in their hypothesis they developed from their experience. It's so obvious your guys are top notch and take pride at being top tier in their jobs. Congratulations on building a team that's as talatened as yours are. Superior ENVIROMENT, superior talent and superior effort, all from superior management by superior people. I sure hope your mentoring as many of your guys you can. Dave’s a great guy. I had kinda the opposite experience with training myself. My boss would not talk to me so I didn’t talk to him, he wouldn’t listen to my ideas and would never work with me to solve issues. I was bitter towards him which really brought me down, although I loved the job, he was training me for something I didn’t want to be. After 10 years of working for him, he retired. My new boss is amazing, we have everything in common, he listens to every word I say and we solve issues immediately. Sometimes it’s hard to train yourself when someone is dragging you down and there’s nothing you can do about it, because they are your boss.

When I saw the Mini Logo on the engine cover and heard him say "Anytime you have to do anything on one of these, the front clip has to come off, except an oil change" I felt that as a mini owner, just to simply change the oil filter you have to remove the turbo intake hose and move the coolant reservoir out of the way then work arouns 2 or 3 radiator hoses just to get to the filter cap! Needless to say, he summed it up perfectly, most work on the engine for those cars is alot easier if you pull the front end off.

One of the best fleet mechanics I worked with had all his vehicles fitted with pyrometers and the drivers drove to the EGT including gear changes. All servicing was scheduled by oil sampling. He had a history of every vehicle in the fleet and he knew when something needed doing from the oil samples. Field breakdowns were practically unheard of and management stopped complaining about the cost of sampling once they realised how much they were saving on not having downtime or blow ups.

Interesting this swell of Utah based professional gaining social acknowledgement. Not for poppy vodeos but honest honorable human actions. Ive met many Utah mormons over the years and if reg Utah ppl are 1/2 as humble n nice as those ppl where.... we should all be such

I work on very large commercial aircraft (777s, A380s etc) and its always the parts you're waiting on. I love doing structural jobs from riveting, hi-loks, freeze plugs etc. Its satisfying

I'm in a different business doing repairs, but getting certain parts are still an ongoing issue for things. The bad thing is for me, some customers understand that and and customers don't. The ones that don't, used to be understanding 2-4 years ago, but now those customers usually think it's either me making excuses/lying or the manufacture/distributor are making excuses/lying. All a person can do is explain to the customer the best they can and go from there.

Dave and the team bring a refreshing wave of integrity/workmanship to the industry, and it is no coincidence he has blown up on social media and within the business. Meeting Jordan Peterson would have been incredible too, how cool is that. God is good, God is glory. Shine on.
