Hello Colin, A very interesting workshop tour. I like the way you've setup the sheet metal bench is setup. The old Raleigh's are cool, I have been a life long cyclist. Merry Christmas to you. Take care. Paul,,

See you have a strip of yellow tape over the battery cover on the vernier height gauge. I have the exact same height gauge with the same problem, battery contact loose with plastic cap on, have to fiddle around with it.

Yes I need to fix it. I got it in this condition and haven’t got round to repairing it yet. It’s a right pain.

i love how the Clarke metalworker and shear were mounted, I'm gonna do that... I think that drum type came out in the early '80s, Casio called it "synsonics drum set"...

Makes me ashamed of the state of my garage. I only have a ML7 but it works well, I wish I had a Myford like yours, well done. I remember when I was in my early 20's having to drive a Triumph 2.5 PI which was nearly new on a 200 mile journey for the company I worked for, it was a lovely car.

Thank you. You should have seen it before I cleared the place out and painted it. It was a disaster! I roped the kids into helping me clear it out and after some hard work, we got it to this stage. It’s an ongoing project trying to make it work to suit my needs. A 2.5 PI in its prime would have been a treat!

I would love a 2.5 PI. I can only imagine what they were like when nearly new. Thanks for watching!

@@opticalmechanic yes it was very nice in blue, automatic gearbox I seem to remember overdrive. A director had left and I had to drive it from Barnstaple to Maidenhead. I moved to Devon soon after.

Hello Colin. Thank you for the interesting workshop tour. The change in humidity this week was dramatic to say the least. I think I was quite lucky. I didn’t get hit with too much rust, well not that I’ve yet discovered 🫣🥴 Merry Christmas to you. 👍😀 Andrew

Great shop tour! I only just noticed your channel. I am keen to see more. And Optical Mechanic - where does the name come from - are you doing work on optical equipment? cheers, Craig

Hi Craig, thanks for stopping by! Thanks very much. I have more content coming soon. I’ve had a very busy summer so the videos have been a bit slow. I’ve been doing mechanical projects mostly but I also make optics so I need to come up with some content that hopefully will be of interest.

Best wishes for the Festive Season. I think that you should ask Santa for a dehumidifier and try to separate the workshop from the garage. My next project: a solid tool post for the Super 7. It won't be as posh as yours but I hope I'll get it good enough to be functional.
@opticalmechanic Жыл бұрын
Thank you, you too. Yes I agree, I should buy a dehumidifier. Let me know how you get on with your solid tool post and if you would like to have it ground. I’d be happy to help.

@@opticalmechanic Many thanks for the kind offer. I think that it would be quite expensive to post the solid lump of mild steel that I have bought, but I'll keep it in mind and let you know how I fare. On a different point, have you thought about using an adhesive for your chip guard ? I agree that spot welding would be tidier than pop rivets, but still leaves indentations. Buying a spot welder is quite a big outlay for the very rare occasions when one needs one unless regularly doing work such as car restoration, and even then plug welding with a MIG welder is usually possible and, I think, more reliable. I would love to have a go at TIG welding as it seems to be very versatile, but I'm a bit too old to be buying that sort of equipment and gas. Best wishes.

Great workshop tour. You didn't mention the BaoFeng UV-5R next to the wood working lathe ? Maybe a fellow radio chap? I've just subscribed, good luck in 2023!

Why does your lathe have a range it says not to use?
@opticalmechanic Жыл бұрын
That configuration is with the back gear and high range so I suspect that the bearings / gears are not rated for up to 3000 RPM.
