Everything you need to know about shopping in England, both in supermarkets and on the high street. In this video, you will learn the difference between the main English stores and supermarkets so that when you’re next in the UK you will know the best place to do your shopping at the best price for your budget. I’ll also teach you specific vocabulary related to doing your shopping for everyday items in supermarkets and at the corner shop. I have so much to tell you about shopping in England, which may be different to the stores you have or the way of shopping in your home country. That's why I have included plenty of my personal observations about going shopping in my country. This video will be useful to tourists to the UK as well as to people who have moved here or who are planning to move here in the future.

Hi Jade! Thanks a bunch for explaining where and how to do shopping in England! Great guidance! Also, thanks a lot for your manner of really natural British English and for speaking, sort of, just straight out of your mind! Not from a script. So, that was coolest experience of English for me ever! You look stunning too! Have a nice day and take care!

Thanks a lot for your explanations Jade, they are very helpful to have a clear idea where to buy when people travel to England,I remember when I was to London some years ago in Christmas festivities that I used to buy in Sainsbury's because some of them were located in the north of London where I was staying spending my vacations.I remember that I found there a great variety of beverages...Lidl is in spain as well in almost everywhere......Thanks again and have a great day.

'Taste the difference' (sainsburys) , 'extra special' (tesco) and 'deluxe'(asda) are names given by these supermarkets to a supposedly more elite product range. However, Sainsburys catch phrase in it's ad campaign is 'try something new today', not 'taste the difference' which asu said, is a range of foods within sainsburys.

Hi, sweetie - she's talking about supermarkets who TRADE in Britain - not supermarkets who ARE British. BIG difference. Many visitors from non-European countries will not necessarily know of Lidl and Aldi but in conversation with Brits may well hear these companies mentioned. THAT'S what this video is about.

I am from California USA. A few years ago we had a caregiver for my mother. The young lady was from Perth Australia. She went to a supermarket and asked for a "trolley" . Everybody tried to help her even the manager. No one could figure out what she wanted. Her Aussie dialect at first for her was undecipherable to start. Finally it was found out that she wanted a "shopping cart" . The words "trolley" , "shopping cart" and "buggy" is used in different areas in the English speaking world. Maybe basket as well, but usually that would be handheld.

In Lincolnshire and I believe in Northern England, the very wide-spread mini markets are the Co-ops. You find them in most of the villages ; they stay open late usually , a bit like the corner shops in London. They sell all the basics, but also alcohol and cigarettes. They have fidelity cards which gives you back some money from your purchases so because of this, you don't mind so much that their prices are a bit higher than the ones at the larger supermarkets which are found mostly on the outskirts of larger towns and cities.

I love learning about different stores and markets in different countries. Here in Canada (at least Western Canada) our most common food markets that originated in Canada are the Real Canadian Superstore...yes that's its full name (usually we just call it Superstore like we call Tim Horton's "Timmie's") and it's, IMHO, the best large box store with really cool products and tons of stuff...you can buy a real Christmas tree, books, yoga supplies and then of course food. Sounds a little like Marks & Spencer), Overwaitea, IGA, Save-on-Foods, No Frills, London Drugs, SuperValu (yes, without an E on the end) etc. In Vancouver, where I live, H Mart and T&T are also popular (they originated in Asia and have cool things like black fungus hot pot and dim sum type meals to go).

Interesting - here, M&S is mostly considered a clothing brand, for the longest time I had no idea they sold food as well. I think people are boing groceries there more often now though. I like their ginger snaps and their Christmas pudding is fairly decent, too (and they make a glutten free one).
