May I suggest that you guys visit the New-York Historical Society? It is uptown a bit, across the street from the Museum of Natural History. It will give you a great sense of New York, its history, and its context in the US. I used to work there, and I could ask someone to give you guys a tour or I could walk around with you guys. Either way enjoy New York!
