I own one of these. I bought it with 43,000 miles and now it's at 82,000 miles. The only problems I've had was a front crank seal leak, transmission shaft seal leak, and oil pan gasket leak. All of that was covered by the warranty. Other than that, It's been trouble free. It doesn't leak or burn any oil between oil changes. I do all of my own maintenance. I follow the maintenance schedule "B" in the owner's manual. This is a cheap car but the parts are also cheap which brings down the cost of maintenance and repairs. I also like the ease of serviceability. It rides and handles better than my Buick Century too. I plan on getting the Mopar speaker upgrade and Katzkin leather interior from the dealer when I have the extra money. The engine is so quiet, you can't hear it from outside the vehicle when the cooling fan turns on.

don't know which model you have but most of the people who own PT complains a lot about as money guzzler , almost all PT had major transmission issues after 50-60K miles
@AGreedyTree
@AGreedyTree 10 жыл бұрын
vestern22 It doesn't matter which model it is. They're all the same. The transmission service is recommended at 60,000 miles. ATF+4 must only be used. Anything else can damage the transmission. Maybe people were putting other fluids in their transmissions?

People say this is the ugliest car ever made and that Chrysler makes crappy cars yet I see at least 4 of these on the road every single day I'm out, they're a common site on the road because they're a cheap reliable used car, my grandpa has one and it's never had any major issues. I'm my grandpas retirement community these are a common site - six of the residents in the retirement community own a PT Cruiser

lol, I am only posting a comment because I read some of the comments below and just had to say from first had experience, I LOVE MY PT Cruiser, no major issues, only problems is that the main interior light no longer works but the one in the trunk still works fine, the air-conditioner no longer works but thats ok since the fan and vent still do and so do all 4 windows. It got side swiped and the rear door now only opens completely when you open the drivers door and same with closing it and lastly the check engine lite is on because the cars computer is dead or dieing,, I still drive it and just drove it about 6 hours ago and it started right up and drove with out any problems. I am saying all this because my pt cruiser has over 196,000 miles on it and its going strong so to me the car is a great car well worth the money, I hope it makes it well past 200,000 miles, heres to hope and maintenance.

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser that is very similar to this one except it's the inferno red color and the dash has the silver center console and red on the sides to match the exterior. Great little car and I have no idea why people hate it so much. I generally prefer older cars but this car has very simple, easy to use electronics which I love. It rides nicely and is a very easy to drive car. It's a small car but it's got a ton of personality and I highly recommend it. I've got videos of mine too.

Something to consider for those who own a PT Cruiser. Chrysler recommends premium gas for the models equipped with the Turbo engine but for those with this standard engine, I personally recommend using mid grade gas (89 octane) over regular (87). I tried this in mine and it has made a world of a difference in it's performance. I feel like I'm getting max power out of the engine and the acceleration has improved quite a bit. Premium isn't recommended for a non performance engine though.

Amen brother! (Sorry if that may offend you) We had a Ford Taurus before we bought an 06 PT Cruiser, the thing broke down every other month car, and that was with proper care! The PT Cruiser on the other hand, has been pretty good. Gets good gas mileage for a car its size (American made too), no problems whatsoever with our 139k engine.

Wow that's pretty good! My family had a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan that we traded in when we got our Dart and it had 116k miles on it at the time and the only problem we ever had with it was the power steering rack had to be replaced. The engine and transmission never had any issues though and it ran great. Chrysler vans are tanks, I swear by them! There's a reason why they're all over the road and the #1 selling minivan in America. Those Ford Escapes certainly do have their issues.

@Jtdrake21 I agree with you about owners determining a car's reliability. I have a PT and I actually love the car. I was hit by a Chevy Silverado in mine (guy had no clue where he was going) and it did it's job protecting me. After both driver side doors were replaced, the car looks like nothing ever happened to it and it's my first car too. But anyway, even cars that have an overall bad rep can be decent if well taken care of. No car will ever last if the owner neglects it.

PR Cruiser is a retro style bsed upon how cars looked in the 1930s and 40s. If you don't like old cars then obviously you won't like the PT, but for people who like that period in history, the PT lets them experience it in a modern, updated car .

Bit aged technology in this one for a 2008 model, the engine for example, 150hp & 165ft/lb in a 2.4l? Most European manufacturers get that amount from a 1.6 nowadays. But the tour was once again amazing Kyle! Great stuff, keep up the good work.

Tip for everyone here: If you're thinking about buying one as a daily driver, don't. It'll last you a very short time before it all goes down the drain. How do I know? I had one, for 8 months, and the A/C went out, along with the turbo. Even before that, I had ignition switch problems, causing the car to stall multiple times. And the 2.4s tend to blow head gaskets. Another fine Chrysler product...

16, male, and got a '03 model PT as my first car, 17,000 miles for $7,000. Got a lot of crap for it at first, called a "PT Loser" or "College girl or grandma's car," but hell, I can pack friends in their and charge them money to go to a concert a lot easier than most sedans. It may not look good, but I can fit anything in the back (Guitars, amps, etc...) like an SUV without the the poor gas mileage and high insurance rates. Turning radius and acceleration are pretty bad though.

The P.T Cruiser is a very reliable car, it also has a lot of room. don't forget good gas mileage. you guys are judging it just on looks. the look that Chrysler came up with is a combination of one of their 1930's cars and their (at the time of the first P.T cruiser) their newest mini-van.

haha it happens. I have had 2 so far, a 2001 and now a 2007. I am a 23 year old male. I am a singer so it was perfect to pack all of my equipment for gigs. It packed up all of my stuff to move to college in 1 trip. A lot of people hate it until they get in. had 4 friends seriously consider getting one after they were in it a few times. This is after they said they hated it. still have a few friends wanting to buy it off of me. Great car and very classy looking. acceleration is poor i agree.

@themitchellmiller What bothers me the most is the fact that people stereotype this car because they think it's ugly but half of them haven't even owned or driven one. I'm sick of people with that attitude. Mine's been great so far after over a year of owning it and it now has 53,000 miles on it. I've taken it on a few road trips, it's my daily driver and I haven't had any issues at all. Plus I think it's a fun car to drive for a 4 cylinder.

The PT Cruiser is a GREAT car. I have an '02 with 247,000 miles on it, and the ONLY problems I've had were a couple of bad sensors. I bought this car with just under 20,000 miles, all the rest are mine. I still would not hesitate to take it anywhere. If it has one fault, it is a little down on power (I'm the muscle car type) but it makes up for that with great gas mileage and low operating costs. As for it's looks I love it, but there is no car that everybody likes the looks of. Jap cars = JUNK.
@mhtube01
@mhtube01 11 жыл бұрын
Now don't get me wrong, I think the PT is a neat little car and does depart from the norm. It's got some pep and it handles pretty well but the Dart does everything much better in a bigger and more comfortable package. The PT is a great commuter car but traveling is where the somewhat tight cabin and hard seats really stand out. Mine doesn't even have cruise control which sucks. Lol. It's still a decent car though and if you find a nicer one like a limited, you'll be happier.

We had to take it in the shop because it was so hard to see anything because everything is stuck under the engine. It was a common visitor to the car shop since day 1. Had about 15 visits for issues in about 6 years. Its crap.

Hi everyone ! I'm not really agree, this car is pretty different in no doubt. The style however stays single in that range. Of course this would not be appreciated by everyone. As a small car, it may certainly be a good choice for persons who don't want get big cars... The fact of having this kind of car in the range, people can be interrested by the price but also by the size both.

I feel like the rap this car gets is really unfair tbh, yeah it's a bitch to work on because the engine is all tied together in a jock strap of an engine bay, yeah it's not winning any beauty contests. But it has decent mileage, good cargo space, cheap to insure, a smooth ride, and you can find them on the cheap most places. It's perfectly accetable daily.

Nice, the Turbo models are sweet! I've never been in one but I'd love to drive a GT model to compare it to mine. I like mine but I know the Turbos have way more potential as far as performance goes, but yes it's a good little car and very easy to drive (and fun). I'm surprised you had so many issues with your Taurus since I've known them to be good cars. What year was it? My dad has a 2011 Taurus SHO and man that car is awesome! I for one, love this car. We have an 06 2.4 Turbo engine PT cruiser with a 5 speed manual, has 139k, no problems so far! It's a great car to learn how to drive manual in (I just got my permit). Answering your question. They sold a TON of them just how Ford sold a ton of their shitty Taurus', through mass production. The PT Cruiser may only seem popular due to mass production. It's sad. I love the retro style of the exterior, and I like how it can both a fast and slow car if you will.

But I keep hearing the first generation ones were the ones that were junk and the newer ones are much better and after reading online reviews that seems to be true. I guess only time will tell how mine is but unlike some who pimp these cars out and make they look awful, mine looks factory fresh and I take great care of it. There are much worse cars out there.

@braydenmartindale Have your grandma taken her PT Cruiser to the dealership? For that milleage one could expect a dead fuse, not the horn itself. That´s what happened with my previous car, a 2000 Stratus after 85,000 miles. After the fuse replacement (10 bucks at much) its horn was working again like new.

my dad had just got a 2004 limited, let me just say, those things are surprisingly roomy as hell, i thought it would be all tight and couped up, and also to add, its taking me a while to get used to the door handles lol, i keep tugging on them as if they were the regular pull kinds

@ewandenis Well I like the look of this car. Come on you can't say this is uglier than cars like the Nissan Cube! That thing looks like a clown mobile! I know everyone has their own taste in cars and the PT is usually a love it or hate it kind of car. I've grown to appreciate it more as I've owned mine and they're fun to drive. That's the thing about them. You really need to drive one and discover all of the personality it has behind the wheel. They're not that powerful but they handle great.

I don't really like to admit it, but these are fairly practical and surprisingly roomy and easy to drive(not that you'd want to be seen in it though) As usual with Chryslers though, the quality sucks. My grandma's 2009 PT horn broke already, the car has less than 20,000 miles on it!

What's up with the 70s like steering wheel and shifter?
@thetitanicisdead
@thetitanicisdead 9 жыл бұрын
The car is supposed to look like it is from the 40's, therefor the shifter and wheel are designed to look like they would if they were in a car of the time, the wheel is designed to look as if it doesn't have an airbag.

I wish I can argue in favour of this car, because the design had so much promising potential, Alas that's not the case, because I've rented this car once in the early 2000's and it made me strongly skeptical about it. I could've lived with its sluggish performance, but what really bothered me about this car the most, are its vicious blindspots, due to its badly placed and beefy A pillars in conjunction with the C pillars. It not only made me feel insecure, but also claustrophobic as well.

HHR was a piece of shit. My mom said she had to really shrug her shoulders just to see out the window. In my opinion. the PT Cruiser (on the other hand) is a great car. No trouble so far! I presume the not-so-decent transmission from the PT Cruiser is the automatic since they were popular compared to the manuals? We don't have a problem with our manual tranny, and the car has 139k.

@b67717 If it was garbage then why did Chrysler sell so many of them?? HMMM??? I guess they're just awful given that and the fact that you think they're ugly. Plus, I bet you haven't even owned one so how can you say it sucks? Because that's what everyone else says? I've got one and haven't had any issues, it's a great car. I just put 500 miles on it in the past few days and it drove like a champ. It's now got over 50k on it and I intend to prove you haters wrong by getting it up to 300k.
