The GMMK 2 is a great board. I ordered a 65% barebones when they first came out and put in Gateron Brown Pros. I loved it so much that I ordered a second one to leave at work. As a programmer, I needed arrow keys, nav keys, and QMK support for custom binds. This board hits all of that under $100 and still has a great build quality. A few of my coworkers have ordered their GMMK2s, but my team lead looks down on us since he has a tricked out, fully modded GMMK pro that probably cost him his kidneys. The wood wrist rest is alright. It gets shiny from your skin oil pretty fast, and gets scratched up easily. But the compact size one fits the board perfectly and allowed me to qualify for free shipping on the keyboard. It was pretty much "free" in that sense.

I like how he says '117 wpm... not bad', like dang. I think I am a decently fast typer and getting into the 80s is good and 90s is amazing haha.

I just can't fathom why those coiled cables are so popular with the custom keyboard crowd

I’ve had a pre built gmmk2 96% for a couple months and have been loving it. The software is pretty easy for what I’ve used it for and the feel for a pre built is really good. And at the price I can’t think of any other keyboard I’d recommend.

I was so excited that a company was finally making a sweet wireless, mechanical switch numpad. I love using the TKL style keyboards because they feel and look really nice. Having a separate numpad for when you occasionally need to enter in a lot of numbers is the perfect mix. This one even has a nifty knob and slider. I was ready to add one to the cart but... $139??? Are you kidding me? For a numpad? What a ridiculous price point. I'd happily spend $50. GMM typically makes excellent products for a reasonable price. I think their keyboards are a bit overpriced personally and I like Keychron more for a quality budget mechanical keyboard, but they aren't that bad of a price and it's a quality product. But that numpad price is absolutely crazy. If they make a slightly less premium one and price it at say $60 or under I'll buy it the day it releases. But charging $139 for just a numpad, way more than the price of vast majority of the populations actual full keyboard is asinine. What are they smoking over at GMM HQ?

I've had their wood wrist rest (say that five times fast) for a while now. It's surprisingly comfortable given that it's not a cushioned surface.

This really does feel like such an advertisement considering how every other reviewer of these peripherals had negative things to say.

Definitely interesting to see the custom keyboard space evolve. I upgraded to a mechanical keyboard before the hobby took off and told myself when it breaks I'll build my own. I use a 10-key and not many full size custom options. My gen 1 HyperX Alloy Elite is still going strong 4 years in with all my macros and multiple layers.

Gmmk 2 96% is a wonderful keyboard. It actually replaced my GMMK Pro. The 96% layout is awesome. I actually cracked it open and added Steel adheseive wheel weights to the case to make it heavier. Lubed up the stabs a little more. and its great. the only thing i would change is probably adding a lil more foam or higher end stabs. but for the price. GMMK barebones keyboards are hard to beat! It's shameful that there are literally hundreds of different keyboards but barely any of them allow us to have the numpad on the left side.

Caps as an additional Fn key on the left is amazing. No need to deviate your hands far from their resting points with 2 Fn keys.

Would love an in depth MK guide from plouff. He seems really passionate about keyboards and he knows his stuff. A guide on switches, stabs, mods, and DIYing would be excellent

I literally got their Model O wireless mouse + GMMK 1 TKL keyboard... literally exactly what I was looking for having compares numerous other mechanical keyboards and mice!! I'm very happy :)

I have a Glorious, I think its the GMMK Pro? Definitely nice, and being able to put on whatever switches and key caps you like is great.

I have a GMMK White Ice Edition, Fullsize and I love it.

One of the things I do with any of my 60%'s is swap the windows key and Fn key. Makes pressing halfish of the second layer pretty easy with a single hand. It also removes that annoying key out of wads territory.

I got the GMMK2 and I love it! Most of my complaints have to do with the fact that its 65% but I had to make the sacrifice because of my small desk space

I literally just bought that numpad. There are much cheaper things like that, but most of them have really sketch reviews and software that you have to email a guy to get a google drive link to. I'll pay an extra $70 to not deal with that. Also the sliders and dials look quality. I'm hoping to be able to configure it for Lightroom and Resolve.

been using GMMK2, honestly ...its good...its convenient...theyve done the basic mod jobs...quite heavy too, not the best keyboards but does the job for its price, change switch,keycaps and stabs, then it fulfill enough my keyboard modding desires

Microsoft Sidewinder x6 had that removable numpad and could change it's side. Those damn keyboards costs same when new in ebay. I still want my old X6 back it was so good. Keyboards nowdays has been same for last 2 decades. naturally with qwerty it needs to stay, but otherwise it's the same pretty much. Same with controllers. All of those are pretty much like that dual shock controller for Playstation 1 and it's been released in 1997 :DDDD I wanna plan out keyboard or controller that would be so awesome :D

a cually went out and bought the gmk2 65% on a whim at microcenter today cause its one of the only decent pink tkl board ive seen, and im very glad i did im already loving this, upgraded from a huntsman mini from razer

Finally, great to see Plouffe cover GMMK, I did buy the GMMK pro barebones with the Glorious Pandas and upgraded the stabs to Duroc V2s as my first proper mechanical keyboard. Absolutely in love with it and can't see myself ever going back to anything non mechanical. Keep up the great work.

I have a GMMK2 with Gateron Oil Kings and it's amazing.

If you can afford it I HEAVILY recommend the Keychron Q series products over most of the glorious keyboards... I have owned 2 glorious keyboards including the fullsize version of the GMMK2 and while they are okay, the Keychron Q series is MILES BETTER for what the price difference is. I personally got the Q2 because I wanted a TKL with the F-Row. The Keychron's build quality, software, and default keys and stabilizers are just so much better it is not even close.

Literally got the V2 because of 5-pin. It was a good choice and I put Boba U4Ts in there, which are 5-pin switches.

GMMK 2 96% is pretty great.. except you have to make sure you have keycaps that fit their special size for certain keys (right ctrl, fn, alt, numpad 0, right shift, del, pgdn)

A project you could do yourself. Thats exactly what i did just last week. Fully disassembled mit keyboard. Desoldered all switches of an 100% keyboard and soldered in new ones. Also painted the base to match the new keycaps. 😅

I've recently tried to get into the custom keyboard hobby, and I find it quite fun. But as a european (iso) full size keyboard kind of guy there's a really limited number of full size iso barebones (i've found 2, the old gmmk and one from keychron). And to add to the problem keycaps are also not easy to find as they have to be nordic to match the language... I wish more full size barebones would be made from manufacturers, but i guess most people aren't interested...

Getting my 96% GMMK 2 tomorrow along with two coiled cables so I can take it to and from work.

Glorious would have had my money if they made a GMMK Pro with wireless. I work and play from my couch, with my Mac for work and PC for gaming hooked to my LG CX. Unless I want a cable going all the way across my living room I need wireless. Now the QK75 is almost here and they'll be getting my money rather than Glorious. I'm in love with the 75% with a knob layout, and really prefer aluminum boards, so the QK is going to be the first to the market with that layout and build and wireless.

One thing I'm immediately put off by is the apparent lack of visible screws on bottom of the KB. It definitely needs foam/tape, but it looks the bottom will be a pain to access, either by removing the feet, or by going in from the top (so you'd have to disassemble everything)

Unless they changed the program the numpad slider can only do a couple things at this time. I found the slider a little cheap feeling and not totally stable. For the price i was hoping for a little better build quality on those. If you like the knob on the gmmk pro, the numpad isn't as good it. I got mine on pre-release though, so i hope they improved it. i like glorious, i was disappointed in the numpad though.

i use the glorious wrist rest its super perfect for the logitech 915tkl i doubt thats what any1 else might agree with your wrist sits high for typing but its GREAT for W.A.S.D. situations

Are there Ortholinear mechanical keyboards? I'm new to mechanical keyboards and never done more than just changing out the keyswitches on my ergodox ez keyboard but I got my dad an Iquinix L80 and I loved it but I cannot use QWERTY to save my life, I have terrible typing skills but the ortholinear layout and changing my keys to work for my typing has helped a ton. I'd love a mechanical keyboard that is wireless cause I love the ergodox but I dislike the wire.

If you want really good coiled cables that don't have that problem, or not that I've come across, try RN cables

I've never cared much about sound with keyboards I'm always wearing headphones at my pc anyway, I kinda like clicky switches but recently got a razer with their linear optical and they feel way better.

This would be THE perfect keyboard for me if it had the F row. I tracked it once, and I used it ~250 times in one day when debugging a school project...

The problem with coil shapes is that they're spirals, so if the coil isn't completely symmetrical, then it is considered a spiral, and spirals within nature are more-than-not: asymmetrical, leading to the geometry of these cords having that sort of goofy unpredictability in preferred aesthetics.

They really missed a trick not making the numpad match the GMMK Pro. They’re similar but different enough to stand out from each other.

I'm looking for a low profile super (red/soft) multi device keyboard that actually doesn't suck with its connectivity. Best one and only one I've found is Keycron K1 and its bluetooth is so bad because of the metal casing that I'm hesitant to spend the 250Euro for the Logitech. Any other suggestions?

oi! I just bought the GMMK pro prebuild at Best Buy and it came with Fox switches but I also bought the glorious panda switches and the amount of THOCK! makes my gooch fizz. I've never had a modular keyboard before.

I was wondering could you tell me or do you know if the MacBook Air with M1 chip is still worth getting and do you think the MacBook Air with M1 chip will get a lot of software updates?

Glorious never fail to disappoint me. Can't think of a single one of their products that are even close to worth the price they are labelled at. £100 for a Glorious Shitty O wireless? Fuck no, the Lamzu Atlantis costs £15 less, weighs 14 grams less, has a better shape with has a solid shell, has huano pink dot switches (WAY BETTER THAN 20M'S) and it comes with grip tape included...

I might be a ludite but what's with the coiled cable if you are going to add another long cable on the end. Kinda triggers my cable management bug.

Being an owner of a GMMK2 keyboard.... I have to say that the switches that come with it are NOT my favorite. I personally have to say they're not bad for typing, but horrible for gaming. I don't know if i'm the only one that does this (doubt it), but I tend to let my fingers lie on Shift, ASD (or AWD), and Space... but with a bit more focus on the letter keys. There were times i'd be playing something like BF2042, and would be like "Why the hell do i keep occasionally drifing to the left/right while i'm running?" or "Why is it spawning me in this TOTALLY random place that i didn't even click on?" Well... it was because of those damn switches. There is SOOO LITTLE pressure required to depress them that my fingers were pushing them down to their activation point without me noticing it. Replaced the switches with Gateron Green's (which Glorious also sells, among others), and not only have there been no accidental presses, but it's all nice and clicky, just how i like it. For me, clicky = yes, thocky = no bueno. edit: And yeah, the barebones is like $40 cheaper..... but then you add switches and keycaps and everything and you're WELL OVER the $119 of the pre-built. So if you want a pretty nice keyboard (that you might wind up changing out the switches on at some point anyway), just get the pre-built and upgrade the switches later.
