To be fair: The ModMic Wireless and ModMic USB are USB Type-A, so they DO work with this laptop... and other laptops without a 3.5mm jack. But we're firmly in the camp of KEEP 3.5mm as a company.

For real. If you want a touch screen to use on the couch or whatever, just use an iPad. Even a 3-4 year old used one is going to be far better for touch screen use scenarios. Laptops are meant for typing in class, or for use on a desk when traveling, etc. You have a touchpad for the minimal mouse use you are going to need, and a dedicated mouse will be used all other times.

The UX425 is probably the best everyday non-gaming 14" laptop on the market today. Huge battery, larger-than-usual screen in its class (competitors are 13.3"), very light at 2.6lb, and a great keyboard for its weight class. Alex's criticisms of it (no touch screen, no headphone jack) were minor, and you could just attach the dongle to your headphones. It's better than a headphone jack because there's no EMI noise. The only laptops that are lighter either have smaller screens, a worse battery, or a crappy keyboard and screen, like the LG Gram 14.

I bought one of the first gen of zenbook. Build quality was quite good- all metal 10 screws to take off the back cover. Still soldered RAM even back then, and a weird/custom SSD interface. Also mini-HDMI and micro-DP WHAT?. Held up fairly well to 3 years of use, Corners are dented and the hinge loosened up, but the killing issue was the small barrel plug charger becoming bent and non-functional. Nowadays won't even consider a laptop unless it has WWAN though.

What asus has failed to mention is that the DAC supplied type-c to 3.5mm dongle is made by ESS, one of the top makers of DACs. It's like the marketing and engineering departments at Asus don't get along pretty well. I bet 99 percent of reviewers complaining the lack of 3.5 jack don't know anything about DACs and ESS SABRE series of dacs. But to me and everyone else that knows a thing or two about audio quality, asus has done a marvelous job here.

"Get the XPS 13, it's friggin' awesome." That may be, but the cheapest version is also over 2x the price of any laptop I've ever seen anyone I know buy, and 20-40% more expensive than my Nitro 5 Spin was, and THAT came with GPU that you can play some games on, is a 2-in-1, has both an M.2 and an HDD, same amount of RAM... The XPS 13 might be great, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class of laptops, but it's a luxury product. Most of us buy a Honda or a Toyota because they're just way better price to performance. If I'm paying upwards of 1200€ (yes, that's the cheapest XPS 13 here) I better be getting MUCH more than a middling i5 and integrated graphics. For the same price I could get a laptop with a Ryzen 7 4800H and an RTX 2060, with twice the RAM. OK, different category, it'd weigh a full kg more. So lets match CPU, RAM, storage, resolution and weight, and I still end up with multiple options at nearly half the price. I could get a Lenovo Yoga for 400-600€ less, and would end up with twice the SSD space as well... The XPS 13 would have to absolutely amaze me for me to ever consider it as a serious option.

That dongle is an incredible DAC. I was wondering why one would mess with the headphone Jack in such a laptop. Then I realized that it is actually a HiFi DAC powered by an ESS SABRE chip. we've come a long way when it comes to laptop battery life though. 10 years ago when I was in college I had an HP pavilion DV 6809 wm, and I needed to get an aftermarket 12 cell battery that jutted out the bottom of the machine in order to even get 8 hours out of it.

From where I am from, Zenbooks are always cheaper than XPSs for the same performance. And sometimes the differences are quite substantial. So it can be difficult to justify buying an XPS. I have had mediocre experiences with ASUS' laptops though so I would almost always recommend for people to get a Thinkpad instead, even over an XPS.

You'll see plastic bezels even on premium laptops that have a matte screen. Touchscreen on a clamshell laptop is somewhat pointless (personal opinion). The lack of a headphone jack is somewhat disappointing although I haven't used headphones with a 3.5mm jack in ages. The Lenovo Ideapad/Yoga Slim 7 (depending on region) has more ports, and slightly better specs at roughly the same price or even lower. Asus usually has overpriced laptops.

The lack of a touchscreen is actually a huge problem. No point paying 1000 plus dollars if there is no touch. Tablet mode and touch is a pretty good place - and if you do word processing and read on the laptop, the touchscreen is a big plus.
