I had the pleasure of flying a China Airlines Boeing 747 on a Taipei-Hong Kong service in late 2019, glad I did since the airline retired their fleet in early 2021... Thanks for sharing this!

Nice video, only in asia you can see such big planes on shorthaul. Did not knew that their 747-400 were so new, must be one of the last passenger version 747-400 ever produced!

Yup, very slow take-offs of CAL 744s happens everytime in MNL! I love the 747s, my favorite aircraft.

I experienced Kai Tak airport. It was dated even then, but I rather enjoyed it. Honestly, I felt as if I was starring in a 1950s B Spy film! Terrific fun! I especially liked the Brunnhildes who used to search you back then. Security is even tighter now, but it is also much less obvious. Thank you for the video!

Ahrr Arr! The Chinese Pirates! Yep. 747 is the beast of the air! ... Flew KLM & Lufthansa to Asia on 747's. NOTHING beats it for long haul! But...No way there's any fuel in them wings.

Fantastic video. Agree sad to see the mighty 747 slowly leaving us. The right pocket is for your glasses. Yes Asian carriers tend to use huge planes for short hauls which is nice...yes I lived on hkg for 7mths hated every min but yes admit they have am awesome express train from town to airport in 24 mins...yes the ife is kind of retro but nice for short flights on the queen of the skies...my fav today for economy is still the a350s and 777-300er for regional and long hauls!

Enjoyed it! Yes, the 747 has very big flaps because of the wing size in the first place. They need to extend the flaps farther in a 747 because of the weight it carries. They will generally extend the flaps to 10 or 20 degrees depending on the weight and runway length.

I used to cater this very aircraft out of Amsterdam, (a few years ago). The route then was: Amsterdam-Bangkok.....Bangkok-Taipei. Great airline, great crew, fantastic aircraft!

nice review! huge like! I flew with the 744 of EVA Air two years ago for TPE-MNL route, I managed to have a seat in upper deck economy, and the tv screen was exactly the same than the one in 744 of CI. wish I will have opportunity to fly with the 744 of CI before it will be too late.

Great report as usual! Any tips on getting the best fares and guarantee of a 747 on this route? It looks like CI are very sporadic with what they send to HKG!

Ah yes, some airlines still have them but Delta does not and that's the airline I usually fly.

I love Asian carriers..for the exact same reason..those long haulers can offer another standard of service than the A 319 s B 737 and A 320 s that European carriers use in Europe? a 2-3-4 hrs tripp in Asia becomes a majestic flight in Asia instead of a cramped flight on a B 737??
