In this episode of TFBTV's SHOT Range Day Coverage, James stretches the legs on IWI's new TAVOR A7. From IWI's press release:
IWI, an SK Group Member, Launches the 7.62X51mm TAVOR 7 AR, the Newest Member of the TAVOR Bullpup Rifle Family
Adapted for military and law enforcement markets, the TAVOR 7 AR will be exhibited at Defense and Security Thailand, Milipol (Paris) France, and Expodefensa Colombia, with availability from Q1/18
Ramat HaSharon, Israel, October 30, 2017. Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), an SK Group member - a leader in the production of combat-proven small arms for law enforcement agencies, governments, and armies around the world - is launching the 7.62X51mm caliber IWI TAVOR 7, the newest member of the successful TAVOR Bullpup Rifle Family. Adapted for military and law enforcement markets, it will be on display at Defense and Security Thailand, Milipol (Paris) France, and Expodefensa Colombia.
According to Shlomi Sabag, IWI’s CEO, “We are pleased to expand the TAVOR family - the world’s most popular battle-proven bullpup rifles - with the new addition of a 7.62X51mm caliber weapon, based on requests from our customers. The IWI TAVOR 7 enables users from the military and law enforcement markets to operate in a wide variety of scenarios at short and medium range with enhanced firepower - efficiently, safely and easily, with only minimal maintenance. Based on what we have already heard from the field, we expect the IWI TAVOR 7 to become a leader in its category. The weapon will be available from the first quarter of 2018.”
The TAVOR 7 is a fully ambidextrous platform on which the ejection side and the charging handle can be switched quickly and easily from side to side by the user. The ambidextrous features include: safety lever, magazine release, and bolt catch similar to the X95. The IWI TAVOR 7 also includes an M-LOK fore-end (2 M-LOK slots at 3 and 9 o’clock) as well as MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail at the 6 o’clock position, to allow the use of multiple devices and accessories. The rifle’s body is built from high-strength, impact-modified polymer, and has a hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floating barrel for enhanced accuracy and life cycle.
Additional features include a short stroke gas piston with a 4-position variable gas regulator, (including an OFF position - a unique feature designed for special operation needs), a rotating bolt system that ensures maximum safety for the user, and a pistol grip that can be changed or modified. The IWI TAVOR 7 enables 100% interchangeability, reducing maintenance costs. It is available in four colors: Sniper Gray, OD Green, Black, and Flat Dark Earth, with replaceable barrels available in two lengths - 17″ (432 mm) and 20″ (508 mm) - for various uses. The rifle has an overall length of 28.4″ (723 mm) and a weight without a magazine of 9lbs (4.1 Kg).
About the IWI TAVOR Bullpup Rifle Family
The IWI TAVOR family of Assault Rifles is a line of versatile, innovative, and technologically advanced weapons. The TAVOR Assault Rifles have been extensively proven on the battlefield, performing with precision and reliability, and meeting the needs of human ergonomics. The TAVOR family was developed in close cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), based on lessons learned from actual combat situations. Complying with the most stringent NATO standards for small arms - including environmental standards and harsh conditions - the TAVOR is in service in the IDF Infantry and Special Forces as well as in other countries throughout the world. It has a compact bullpup configuration, a barrel length and weapon size that cover all soldiers’ fighting ranges - from 500 meters to indoor operations, fighting from vehicles, urban areas, etc. Among its additional features, the TAVOR’s body is made of strong, modern composite materials, and its metal parts are corrosion-resistant. It can be comfortably used by either left or right-handed shooters.

Now THIS is the Tavor I've been waiting for. As a lefty I can say that this is how they should have done the Tavor from the very beginning, the other system made absolutely ZERO sense. Here's hoping that this system will carry over to future 5.56 Tavors. Now all I need is a mere $2.5-3$k for this and get lucky enough to find one.

The Waraboo why do lefties always want a bullpup. It is like the handicapped guy wanting to dirt bike. I mean you can do it... but there are other things to do.
@thewaraboo2824
@thewaraboo2824 6 жыл бұрын
I've always loved the bullpup concept. I think it's a brilliant how it makes absolute efficiency of the basic layout of a rifle and offers shorter lengths with better balance. And it's really not THAT hard to come up with a system that is suitable for both left and right-handed shooters. Also being left-handed isn't a handicap and lefties are going to become a larger percentage of the population in the coming decades, so it's important to be able to accommodate and account for both lefties and righties. And this is what I love about the Tavor: it's constantly evolving to address the needs and suggestions of its market (much like the AR family) unlike other designs like the L85, the Famas and the F2000 which never really made any significant leaps beyond the initial design and, thus, have failed to attract any new customers to its design.
@checkpoint3260

Wait, are you planning for the Lefty takeover? Is this the end of the Right-handed race? Still, bullpups are silly and just adds more parts you don't need. I mean how many light weight bullpups are out there? Plus, how are you going to fling your empty mag out to the side as you yell "TACTICAL RELOAD!" with a bullpup?

Good, clean, concise, and easy to follow. Well done on this video. I wish all the videos were this polished. Also kudos to the IWI guy for NOT wearing a black jacket. So many of the videos have reps wearing a black jacket/coat holding a black gun with bad lighting and you can barely see the gun. Take note... just like you don’t use yellow text on a presentation. Good job James, your videos were BY FAR the best TFBTV vids this year.

verfed really? There are more countries in europe that allow you to own semi automatics than you think... At least here in germany you can own one for sporting and hunting purposes. Of course you will nearly never see something like this tavor, because they probably don't sell them in europe.

They even passed a new EU law to restrict the magazine size like in canada... We are now allowed 20 rounds for pistols and 10 for rifles. Not to happy about that, especially because it will have absolutely no impact on crime or terrorism.

I love this, the 308 makes up for the aesthetics. (It has the nice grooves in the rear instead of the boxed off shape like the x95 BUT it loses the trigger like mag release AND the four vents/ports that were in the middle of the gun. I could care less for the trigger release but those cuts made the SAR look aggressive as fuck)

That's DMR territory, and wouldn't be consistent with a CQB bullpup battle rifle. Have you checked-out the DAN sniper rifle on IWI.net. It'll probably arrive in the USA sooner or later, although the price might be steep. I hope the release a .308 or 6.5 CM version for civies are a reasonable price.

I was in my local shop a couple weeks ago. They said it comes up as listed, but doesn't have any set release dates. IWI said January... but The owner of my local store made the comment that it usually means "select" people (KZfaqrs, etc) will receive theirs, while shops will take quite a while longer. Like you, I'm hoping for soon, however.

I wonder how much energy you loose with a 16.5 inch barrel for a .308. What is the FPS with that short barrel?

No shooting footage? I hope the rifle didn't disassemble itself the moment James loaded a round!

$2k. I had my local gun shop do some digging for me. They are listed but unable to be ordered currently. The first Tavors (and X95s) were also $2k when they first came out.

i don't really get the .308 bullpup concept, bullpup is for cqb and 308 is for distance, do you really need your distance gun that short?

Do I really NEED another rifle, no, but I want one. Actually it is a pretty good idea. It looks no different than the 5.56 Tavor at even a small distance & would not make a long distance shooter in a squad stand out with a much longer & different looking rifle.
