I asked Marla if she would play Love song Of The Nile at the Spotted Cat during 2016 French Quarter Festival, not only did she play it, she also climbed up onto the bar, stood in front of me and sang it to me. The highlight of my visit to NOLA from the UK.

I'm the son of an "Old Fig" and grew up in a house speaking jazz as a second language. This whole set (in particular Love song of the Nile) brings it all back. Now I'm not a rebellious teenager I'm so grateful and love it all. Thanks guys x.

Yes, MARLA'S vocals are top shelf, and she is in charge of the band not taking away from Barney on the slide T-bone, nor the tremendous bass and the steady background banjo, lest we forget the soaring soprano clarinet.

I keep coming back to this to listen to Love Song of the Nile. I've listened to loads of other recordings of the song, but none match this one: few are even in the same league. The way Marla's vocals combine with James' clarinet is just out of this world.

Dear Marla, it's challenging to put into words just how much I admire your singing and the way you interpret jazz. Your music is like a journey that transports me to distant worlds while filling my heart with a soothing sense of familiarity. Your voice is not just a musical instrument; it's an expression of passion, emotion, and deep soul. Each time you sing, I feel as though my own soul resonates with your notes, blending and harmonizing with them. It's as if you understand the stories and longings I carry within me, and you reflect them in every note you sing. Your music has the power to comfort, inspire, and remind me that the world, despite all its challenges and obstacles, is full of beauty and wonders. You illuminate jazz in all its glory. Your renditions of classics and your original compositions touch not only my ears but also my heart and soul. When you perform, I am transported to another realm, where worries and fears fade, leaving only the pure joy of the music. I want to express my gratitude for the countless times you've touched my soul with your music. You are an exceptional artist, and I am grateful to have the privilege of experiencing your art. I look forward to continuing to witness your musical journey, and I hope you never cease to captivate people's hearts with your music. The world needs more of what you do, and I will always be here to listen and applaud.

I listen to this set from Abita Opry at least once a week. All of the musicians are on top form at this gig... but it's waaaay too short. I know, I'm being greedy. But I love this session as much as I love the 1965 session of Kid Thomas, Capt.John Handy, Jim Robinson, and Sammy Rimington. Some days, Love Song of the Nile gets multiple plays. The vocals on all of these tracks are stupendous. However, on Love Song of the Nile, Marla simply soars. One of my favorite all-time vocals.
