And if she was sleeping with someone who was influential in the firing of Doherty, that's really nasty and unfortunate. But ultimately, the studio did make the choice/decision. The studio must have felt that Doherty wasn't the key element making the show popular, or they would've pressured the cast to mend fences, at least in its publicity optics. Always remember, this studio (UPN/CW/WB) has always been heinous on how they treat their shows and talent. Their management sucked!
