Apple has shown interest in adding a screen to AirPod Pro. I go hands-on with a knockoff Chinese set of earbuds that brought Apple's patent to life to see how useful a touchscreen actually could be. Do you think Apple should add this feature?

@1:53 Note that Apple moved the battery of the APP2. Instead of being in the stem like they were previously, it is now a tiny button cell located between the driver and main circuit board in the head. If you google for xrays of the APP2, you can see some visuals.

Try using the earbuds from a real AirPods Pro into this fake case and see if it works because then it’s a game changer lol. You get the amazing sound quality from the buds along with the screen from this thingy.

AirPods Pro don't use the stem for the battery, it's a coin cell inside the main housing no ?

So I have what's called the "A9" version of the headphones in the video and they are super great. The controls work as advertised, the audio quality is 8.5/10 and the ANC and passive modes are actually really good. For the $25 these cost me on ebay they are worth the price.

The Chinese will now sue Apple due to copyright infringement if Apple produces AirPods with a screen-that’s a bit rich 🤑

I do hope that that was sarcasm... but if not, would never happen. First, Apple would sue first based on the fact that they literally copy everything about AirPods Pro. They're identical except for crappy and have the screen on the front. So Apple would have a claim first. Second, Apple would still be able to sue based on its filed patents from 2021.

@@AppleInsiderI would assume it very unlikely for Apple to make this, bc then you wouldn’t need at least an aWatch, which requires at least a family member’s iPhone.

Apple isn't afraid to cannibalize its products.@@DurfDiggler It does so all the time. The Apple Watch also still has tons of benefits, including all the fitness tracking, notifications, apps, payments, and more. Just because it has Find My and playback controls, doesn't mean it replaces an Apple Watch. Think about the earbuds now. They already have volume and media controls. It would just be giving you another option if this case is sitting on your desk but your phone is in your pocket.

interesting concept but I could see a lot of mistaps and accidental presses with this, like if they're in your pocket for example

The concept is a great idea but what functionality(ies) the screen is given determines whether it would be a success Like being able to update your AirPods firmware OTA ON A SCREEN on the case would be a good function and checking the battery life on your AirPods would also be useful I'm not sure a remote camera shutter would be a good function because it would likely open up the possibility of more pocket pictures Being able to find individual AirPods that are paired with the case would make it less dependent on the iPhone but if your AirPods and your AirPods case go missing you still have to take out your iPhone but putting your AirPods in Lost Mode would probably make it easier for someone to see who the AirPods belong to and if they have intention of getting your AirPods back to you get your AirPods back to you ASAP Overall I think a screen on the case should be a minimal design with functionality specifically related to the AirPods

Apple publicly filed a patent for this, it's shown in the video. They just cloned AirPods Pro and used Apple's patent for screen features

Wait, are these the AirPlus Ultra “Pros” or are these just the basic Ultras? What about the Extreme Pro version where you can edit and watch videos on the screen? Next up … a small detachable keyboard for the case. The Chinese are hilarious 😂😂

Number one: Firmware updates through case! Number two: Find mine for all your devices. Number three: Battery levels on devices and warning ⚠️ when EarPods need charging. Everything else is just extra for me.

I don’t get it. Who would like to pay more (yes price woud increase), and a thicker body, with less battery life due to screen, to control your airpods with the box in your hand. I can t fathom it. Airpods needs to be paired to a phone. A phone already has (a much better, bigger) screen. No one would use it in real life

I don't think that the price would increase here. A screen isn't an inherently expensive component. The idea would be that AirPods Pro originally came out years ago and the price of its components have dropped, giving Apple more wiggle room in its COGs. I also don't think that Apple's version would necessarily have a thicker body and battery life likely wouldn't take a hit.

there are too many things with screens that attract and distract people's attention while they're using them in an unsafe society. people are already doing dumb things like walking or driving with their apple vision pro at their own RISK! SO JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE AND LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE AND STAY SAFE.
