I agree with you that we are called to walk as a disciple of Christ and mediate on his sacrifice and remember it every single day. But I would also like to iterate that for many who are more engrossed with the world , lent would be an ideal start to start examining themselves inwardly and use this 40 days to start up the things which might help you get into a closer relationship with Christ and continue this even after the lent.

@@donjon2023 the Lent celebration is pagan. Lent means spring. 2,000 years before Jesus was born, Tammuz was born. he was the alleged son of the resurrected Nimrod and his mom. his mother said Nimrod came down onto her from a tree and impregnated her, the truth being that she committed adultery. Tammuz was worshipped in Babylon as a Messiah. he died when he was 40 from an attack by a wild boar. the pagans cried and mourned him for 40 days, leading up to a large feast. they gave up something of the world so that Tammuz could have it in the afterlife. this isn’t the only celebration that is of pagan origin either. the Roman empire was persecuting christian after Jesus died. they couldn’t get pagans and christians to integrate. so they Christianized pagan celebrations to encourage peace between them, which worked. the Council of Nicea corrupted everything except the Bible, although they were able to get rid of many books. the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon, who claims to be the Bride of Christ but has committed adultery with the kings of the earth, enriching themselves off the fruits of false worship and evil. it is the revived roman empire.

@@MiKeFrm260 Lent is an imitation of the 40 days in the wilderness where Jesus meditated and fasted and denied the lusts of the world.....to pretend that it is pagan is fatuous.....none of the early church fathers wanted anything to do with pagan sacrifices/celebrations.

It's interesting how there are always these types of videos from evangelicals that ask "Should Christians observe Lent," but you don't see videos like "Should Christians celebrate Christmas" from them. We all would agree that Christmas is not biblical but is a day created by the church to help us focus on Christ (in this case, his birth). Likewise, Lent is a season created by the church to help us focus on Christ, in this case, preparation for commemorating his death and resurrection.

I'm pentecostal and a decade ago God laid on my heart to start observing Lent. For me it's honoring, being mindful, respectful, and praising Jesus even more during those 40 days of Lent. It's about fasting, praying, and almsgiving during those precious 40 days leading up to the Crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Yes I pray, seek forgiveness, and glorify God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit every day. It's just something so special to show Jesus my gratitude and to draw closer to him during a time when millions of others are at the same time. We can never do anything that comes close to the dust that settled on his feet let alone his actions on Earth. But I believe it brings so much joy to him for us to set aside 40 special days a year that we go above and beyond what we typically do daily.

Lent is puzzling for me. If you give up anything for Lent, only to take it up again after Lent, the what is the point? When I gave up Pork and shrimp, lobster and mollusks because God, who created them all, deemed them unclean, that eating them defiles us before Him why Yeshua said it’s not what goes into a man’s mouth that defiles him. That was permanent, a life change, not something I will take up again after 40 days.

Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church❓ The quotes provided below are historical facts in reference to our early church which existed prior to Romes adoption of Christianity in 313 A.D. Church: 📖"Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrneans 8 (c. A.D. 110)] Bishop, Priest & Deacon: 📖“Since, then, I have had the privilege of seeing you, through Damas your most worthy bishop, and through your worthy presbyters Bassus and Apollonius, and through my fellow-servant the deacon Sotio, whose friendship may I ever enjoy, because he is subject to the bishop as to the grace of God, and to the presbytery as to the law of Jesus Christ [St. Ignatius of Antioch- Letter to the Magnesians 2 (c. A.D. 110)]. Eucharist: 📖“Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ, which have come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God... They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, Ash that suffered for our sins and that the Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6-7 (c. A.D. 110)]. Scripture: 📖“[W]hoever perverts the sayings of the Lord for his own desires, and says that there is neither resurrection nor judgment, is the firstborn of Satan. Let us leave the foolishness and the false teaching of the crowd and turn back to the word that was delivered to us in the beginning.” [St. Polycrap of Smyrna - Letter to the Philippians 7 (c. A.D. 135)]. Sunday: 📖“But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.” [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 67 (c. A.D. 151)]. Actions/Works: 📖“We have learned from the prophets, and we believe it is true, that punishments, and chastisements, and good rewards, are rendered according to the merit of each man's actions. If it is not so, then all things happen by fate, and nothing is in our own power. If it is fated that this man be good, and this other evil, the former is not meritorious nor the latter blameworthy [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 43 (c. A.D. 151)]. Apostolic Succession: 📖“It is within the power of all, in every church, who may wish to see the truth, to contemplate clearly the Tradition of the apostles manifested throughout the whole world; and we are in a position to reckon up those who were instituted bishops in the churches by the apostles, and [to demonstrate] the succession of these men to our own times; those who neither taught nor knew anything these [heretics] rave about.” [St. Irenaeus of Lyons - Against Heresies 3:3:1 (c. A.D. 189)] Baptism: 📖“The children shall be baptized first. All the children who can answer for themselves, let them answer. If there are any children who cannot answer for themselves, let their parents answer for them, or someone else from their family.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21 (c. A.D. 215)]. Confession: 📖“After this, one of the bishops present, at the request of all, laying his hand on him who is ordained bishop, shall pray this way: O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. pour forth the power that is from you, of "the princely Spirit' that you delivered to your beloved Child, Jesus Christ, and that he bestowed on your holy apostles, who established the Church that hallows you everywhere, for the endless glory and praise of your name. Father, "who knows the hearts [of all]” grant this servant, who you have chosen for the episcopate, to feed your holy flock and serve as your high priest blamelessly night and day, and unceasingly turn away wrath from your face and offer to you the gifts of the holy Church. And that by the high priestly Spirit he may have authority "to forgive sins" according to your command.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 2-3 (c. A.D. 215)]. Confirmation: 📖“The bishop will then lay his hand upon them, invoking, "Lord God, you who have made these worthy of the removal of sins through the bath of regeneration, make them worthy to be filled with your Holy Spirit, grant to them your grace, that they might serve you according to your will, for to you is the glory, Father and Son with the Holy Spirit, in the holy Church, now and throughout the ages of the ages. Amen." After this he pours the oil into his hand, and laying his hand on each of their heads, says, "I anoint you with holy oil in God the Father Almighty, and Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit." Then, after sealing each of them on the forehead, he shall give them the kiss of peace and say, "The Lord be with you." And the one who has been baptized shall say, "And with your spirit." So shall he do to each one [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21-22 (c. A.D. 215). Peter’s Authority: 📖“The Lord says to Peter: "I say to you,' he says, “that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it. And to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven. [Mt 16:18-19]. On him he builds the Church, and commands him to feed the sheep [Jn 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed the others were also what Peter was [apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, by which it is made clear that there is one Church and one chair.... If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he think that he holds the faith? If he deserts the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he be confident that he is in the Church?.” [St. Cyprian of Carthage - Unity of the Catholic Church 4; first edition (Treatise 1:4) (A.D. 251)]. These few topics (but a glimpse) were not only discussed but settled BEFORE Rome adopted Christianity (The Catholic Church) and eventually became The Roman Catholic Church as it also adopted its name after 313 A.D. Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church❓Yes❗️ Does this excuse all its mistakes and sins from the record❓Of course not❗️As Christians, we are called to hold the church accountable, not leave it and let evil flourish within it. This refusal of accountability within every Christian has led to over 40,000 diferente Christian denominations and the ignorance which has flourished from it. 🕊️”He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ; so that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,” Ephesians 4:10-15 We are called by God to unite! What better church to do it under than the one he started.

Lent is not mentioned in the Bible, but rather started in the fourth century AD. Even though there is no explicit evidence of Lent in Scripture, many believers have tried to argue that Lent is based on Jesus' temptation in the desert for 40 days. The 40 days before Easter is a preparation time known as Lent. Although Ash Wednesday is enriched with Christian symbolism, we don't actually find an instance of this particular holiday in the Bible. The holiday didn't have a biblical origin but owing to the Council of Nicea implementing a 40-day fasting period prior to Easter, many debated as to when that period would start.

Do not give a law as the lawgivers do or you will be restrained by it, the rcc brings forth much doctrine and this doctrine is the doctrine of man, not of God, Lent is a Catholic doctrine as many Catholic things are, they have nothing to do with Salvation, all the Christ, one does not observe lent because you subject yourself to a law, you can bring many laws and rituals you just established them, call them Holly, and then people simply follow them, Christ was 40 days in the desert not because of a law, or a decision he made, but because of the power of the Holy Spirit which Drew him there, this is something completely different than what lent is all about, just because the Christ did it, now you want to establish let us all do this, no, those who are born of the spirit will fast but this fasting will come because of the spirit which is upon them, which will lead them to do these things, at certain times of their lives, by the fasting or true fasting is of the spirit, when the bridegroom leaves the bridal chamber, this has to do with a spiritual thing not a physical thing, lent is rubbish like so many other Catholic doctrines it is all rubbish fit for the fire, because they have nothing to do with the truth, nothing to do with the Christ, and nothing to do with Salvation, all it is is a hole in the ground.

Can I just say and I will. When will people wake up and understand that God never told man to become a member of a particular religious group. He only told us to be Holy. Nowhere in the Bible does it mention Catholics, Pentecostal, Apostolic, Lutheran, Mormon, Baptist, Jehovah Witness, and Muslim. So why are there so many people associated with all the different religions that exist . It’s all just a bunch of confusion. last I checked God is and have never been a God of confusion. Religion will not get anyone into heaven only salvation. The word of God says that he is coming back for a holy church and with out spot or wrinkle. And why are so many Christian’s excepting of man- made ideas, opinions, and philosophy when they should be more concerned with what God said. Preachers are trying to preach and teach the word of God when their unlearned. They don’t know the word of God. Lent / Ash Wednesday is not biblical it’s paganism. A lot of paganism started in the Roman Catholic Church And as for Fasting it can be done at anytime. There’s no specific time to fast. Believers in Christ fast for spiritual growth.

What better church to do it under than the one he started.

i feel that you really did not give a proper sense of lent here....speaking as someone raised in a catholic community, lent is a very christian practice which is steeped in spirituality. during lent, people go to church multiple times per week for vespers and evening prayer, fast both by giving something up or by literally fasting a day or so (ex: i once did a 30 hour fast and meditation), went to confession and reflected. this is not to earn the favor of god, but to encourage deep reflection on ourselves and our sins and our mortality. it is NOT a season of "performing" devotion for attention. quite the opposite, for most. i understand why you might say that you should do this every day and not just for a season, but i think having liturgical seasons helped us focus on the themes of the season and reflects our own lifecycle. lent was always the season i felt the most connected to god and my community.

Every other "church" was founded by men centuries later as a form of rebellion. Pray! Pick up your cross and follow Jesus, he didnt say take it easy he said CARRY YOUR CROSS! FAST because the bridgroom is no longer with us. He said we would fast!

Lent was created by well after Yeshua and is not biblical whatsoever. Its was created by the Council of Nicaea. Catholicism practics, creates, and spread traditions throughout Christianity and we have unfortunately fallen into the trap. Lent did not begin in biblical times. According to the Oxford Concise Dictionary of the Christian Church, Lent was first mentioned in AD 325 (E. A. Livingstone, Oxford: Oxford University, 2006). The apostles and early church did not observe Lent, as it became a tradition in the fourth century AD. While observing a period of fasting (whether from certain foods or certain activities) is not prohibited in the Bible, there are important considerations to keep in mind. First, Jesus never commanded His disciples to fast, as was shown in Matthew 9:15. Secondly, fasting should be voluntary, not forced. Thirdly, the temptation of pride is very strong when fasting, which is why Jesus told His disciples to not let others know they were fasting (Matthew 6:1, 17-18). To boast about one’s long period of fasting during Lent would match the Pharisees’ hypocritical pride and not be pleasing to the Lord (Matthew 6:16). Finally, Jesus has declared all foods clean, which is why requiring people to restrain from meat is problematic biblically (Mark 7:19; Acts 10:15). Christians avoided meat sacrificed to idols during the early church period (Acts 15:29), but a mandatory fast of meat products seems to fall in line with legalistic rules rather than a form of spiritual practice (1 Timothy 4:3).
