I feel like this argument that Darwin doesn't score vs the bigger teams is not looking at the big picture... both matches vs united, he has an assist and salah's goal in the 4-3 is from a deflection off a nunez shot. City? he gets the pen for us that macca scores. Assist vs chelsea, assist vs new castle for the 1st (on top of the brace in the first). assist to seal the match v everton. vs villa that end 4th, an assist and he generated an own goal off the post. Saying he's "not there" is just wrong cause he's contributed to big matches. Could he have done way better? hell yeah. But to say he wasn't there for any big matches this season is just wrong. And even what some say was a "very poor season" for him, so many of our points hinged on this lad this season... I get wanting him to reach his potential but he does get a lot of hate that's not deserved. He's just being scapegoated.

Absolute rubbish, because no one has criticised the other parts of his game, it was even explicitly said in this video how his all round game has improved. So now your strawman is out of the way, stick to the subject at hand, his finishing, has it improved or does he finish like a premature ejaculator, cause 11.7% goal to shot ratio is garbage
@gylduran9217

Fact is his finishing is still garbage and it is a failure of a signing for what we bought him for and what we paid. He gets one last chance under Slot otherwise we need to get rid. He will never be a 20+ goal scorer in the Prem, and a club of Liverpool's size needs a player like that...Salah won't be here forever

That's not true. In regards to playing centre forward he doesn't make the correct runs. Playing down the middle is an art form. You can't be up top waiting for a world cup pass to land in ya path. You need to give your team mates an option. You need to curve your runs, try pull the one centre halve wide, come from one centre half to the other, try lose your man, throw him a dummy, shoulder nudge him out the way. If he's close to ya roll him. Find some space so you can be played in by Trent or Macca or Elliot Be on the half turn already running at pace then change direction towards goal. He should rarely be offside with that pace. Watch some Owen clips. He was one of the best ever at it. That's the level

Gakpo and Nuñez are on the same boat for me, two very up and down players. People are saying Gakpo for starter mainly due to the recency bias of him ending the season stronger than Darwin but Gakpo was poor at the start to middle of the season, both need to improve under Slot. Also to argue the teams Darwin scores against, the Bournemouths the Burnley’s, etc. those are literally the park bus teams that was have the worst time scoring against 🤷🏻‍♂️

To put it bluntly - no. Not intelligent enough as a footballer. Would be a legend at Liverpool in the Evans/Houllier-era when we were a top 4 team and you were more tolerant of 'purple patch' players who go missing for parts of the season, but we're now back on our perch and sitting at the top of the football pyramid with a few other elite teams, and our strikers need to reflect that and rise to the big occasions consistently.

Everyone loves gakpo (rightly so) who ended the season well but was poor for the majority. Nunez is the opposite, just because he finished the season poorly no reason to dismiss him. No reason to think he won’t continue to improve next season. In terms of him being offside so many of the passes needed to be played first time but the extra touch and looking up for him before hitting the pass meant he was offside (not always but I noticed this happened a fair bit). If Slot plays 4321 he’s ideal for the 9.

Darwin Nunez: I get it. I understand his strengths and to be honest it’s something most of football is lacking. A fast run in behind the defence. Salah doesn’t do it as much because of the inverted role he’s more of a chalks on the boots winger again. Pep said Nunez doesn’t help control. Ste is right if you’re not going to do that. You need be doing more conversions to make up for it. It’s good he’s getting these stats but it’s also misleading. The amount of offsides isn’t even funny anymore because some kill momentum. Ruin counters or even if we’ve been under pressure and we’re trying to make em think about pushing up to high and getting confident him being offsides gives them the ball straight back. He also has some weird decisions when he’s not in attacking positions. Numerous times I’ve seen him and Diaz play horrible passes to the middle or switch which get cut off and they counter i.e. United FA cup rashford goal. My patience is wearing thin. You can say how he’s got more than Firmino ever did in any seasons but Firmino has scored crucial goals against Arsenal plenty times, Chelsea a few times, Man City a couple times even United in 20/21 in that huge late charge top 4 gets a brace. Some of these chances just watching them makes you feel sick. That Everton one I genuinely don’t think any forward in the top 10 of the league would hit it straight at the keeper. Maybe Jackson would. This about to be year 3 and we still don’t know what to expect when he’s one on one. That’s not good. Despite all the runs and stress he gives defenders and his assists has been better. I’d still also like him to more stronger on the ball when we do play it up to him in big games. Too many times city, arsenal and United defenders would take it off him or he’d go to ground when it’s not a foul
@sihi5634

I personally believe/hope Nunez could benefit hugely from Slot, our current method of attacking is so chaotic, players moving everywhere, no two goals look the same, chances can come from anywhere or anyone at anytime and clearly Nunez isn’t the best instinctive finisher, sometimes he can but not at a high enough percentage, all of our forwards are struggling to finish if we’re honest, even he great mo Salah, we are nothing like city in that regard who create the same chance for Haaland 5 times a game, consistency and structure could be key for Nunez and I believe, from What I’ve heard that is exactly how slot attacks, it’s structured and repeatable, it wouldn’t shock me if a couple of players explode next season, slot can’t say he hasn’t got any talent in the squad, hopefully he can utilise it.

Darwin is in the damned if you do damned if you don’t category of players. If we let him go, we probably lose money bc his value is lower and we have yet to see him in a less direct system. On the other hand, can we afford to waste more salary, player value, and chances creates during being games for this player? The real question here is how much pressure do we want to put on Arne Slot. If Arne can do as advertised (as a man-manager) and simply align his xg with actual goals, we have our center forward on our hands. If not, then it looks really poor on the club for that transfer and could put Arne Slot’s tenure in jeopardy due to poor performances. Darwin could partially (no one player has that much power) make or break Arne’s tenure at Liverpool, so do we want to go through that risk? I’m personally on the side yes, but just tentatively. I’m putting Darwin in last chance saloon for this season bc we have much larger areas of need than ST.

The dramatization of how poor he is has been way overdone. Let’s see what a new system and a new manager can get out of him!

Paul I get you're a positive fan, as am I, but sometimes you just need to call it as it is. There's a difference between optimistic & deluded. Also, bobby's role & darwin's role is completely different, so to say "bobby couldnt dream of those numbers" is an asinine argument. That's like saying bruno could dream of Isak's numbers, their roles are not even the same lmao Your coping. The issue is Nunez averages 5 shots a game & he cant score, it's not that hard to sit there & be honest is it? JFC. Good on Ste for keeping it real.

Part of me thinks there's a player in there but he's not a kid anymore and his craziness can be good on the pitch but I think someone on one of the channels said recently that does it make it a bit hectic for his team mates to predict too? Plus some of his off pitch antics seem a bit unsettling.. Dunno is the short answer..

I read an interview with Nunez when he first joined the Club........ So Nunez's life revolved around social media, he said the hate effected him so much it bled into his game to the degree he had to take a step back. The problem now is he might not using social media etc but his missus is and his close frends are, so the trolls just go after them instead and get him from a diffrent direction.

Nunez had less goals in the league than Kai havertz, Nicolas Jackson, and Leandro trossard to name a few and I would think he is the second coming of JC listening to half my fellow Liverpool fans. I love Darwin’s passion but it’s embarrassing to have less goals than Nicolas Jackson, and be considered a starting striker on a team that competed for league title for 3/4 of the season.
@kriissyy09ify
@kriissyy09ify Ай бұрын
That's just a dumb argument considering Jackson starts every game and finished with 14 League goals. Darwin only started 22 games and ended the PL season with 19 goal contributions.

This is becoming tiresome. When we’re looking at numbers….oh, but he played the most When we look at others’ numbers…oh, but he doesn’t do the defensive work When he gets involved in big martches (given, more with assists)…oh, but he doesn’t score But, honestly, considering selling such a player is a sign of not understanding football, i am sorry. And on this front, really, “is there a world” where Ste can avoid lamenting, huffing and puffing, or, at least, “is there a world” where he can just be reasonable and not be so sure of his opinions? Cause he comes across as a whiny fair-weather fan who cherrypicks his facts. Again I ask, “is there a world” where, along with the “fame” of being part of a nice supporters’ channel translates into one individual actually evolving, developing and becoming both more knowledgeable and more decent? “Is there a world” where we learn and become better or is it just “i have this thought and i will die with it?” …

Would have sold Nunez if i was Slot. Don’t feel he will ever get to the level he needs to be at for Liverpool. He got more goals last season but he also missed so many chances and his awareness is very poor. Regularly offside and his decision making in the box is really really poor. For me he either plays on the left and competes with Diaz for that position or he is sold on. Slot needs to do 2 things sort out the defence as it leaks far too many silly goals and buy a centre forward.
@K2edg

If you where Slot you would back your self to improve any player in the squad (that includes Nunez). The crazy thing is Slot will be rubbing his hands together with the prospect of Nunez, a player that gets into positions to get over 100 shots off in a season but only scored 16!! Nunez could well be the player that wins Slot silverware if Slot fixes him.

The bald bloke- Look at Firmnio and Mane first two seasons - both are not as good as Nunez first 2 seasons. Nunez did not decide the price- Nunez put Van Dyke , Gomez, Konate , TAA on there fat backsides, in the ECL twice, punished LFC defense with ease. Nunez did not play CF for Almeria, Benfica or does he play CF Uruguay.. He plays across the line, he is not a number 9 the bald bloke needs to learn facts. By the way Gapko first 18 months are dreadful stats wise assist and goals

Slot backs himself as a top draw coach......... He will have seen the 100 odd shots on goal and will be rubbing his hands together. Nunez has the clinical goal finisher in him, he does the hard bit but misses sitters, but then goes and scores a worldie....... Nunez is made for a coach like Slot.
